Title: Hello, need help to replace speaker
Post by: slash300zx on September 08, 2016, 09:53:40 PM
Hi everyone, my name is Dave and I've been collecting lightsabers for a little while (got quite a few I guess) and I need some help so I can repair my very first lightsaber.  It is a Hasbro Signature series Force FX (Anakin) lightsaber which its speaker all the sudden started sounding horrible like it is blown. I've been searching on how to fix it and have found out that the speaker can be replaced but the speaker module is not easily taken apart and needs to be cut open... well, here's the part I need some help. I don't want to destroy the speaker module/battery pack attempting to open it and cutting in the wrong place or the wrong way so my question is: what is the best way or where exactly do I need to cut the plastic so I can have access to the speaker? I have tried searching but there's not much I can find and some of the links are so old that they don't even work anymore.  Any help is much appreciated, I really would like to change the speaker and not have to buy a used battery pack off of ebay since I find it rather expensive to pay $70 just for a used battery pack (which I don't know the real condition of), specially if I can fix it with a $10 speaker that will most likely be an upgrade anyways.

Again, thanks for any help

Any help please? I was able to get a master replica anakin (mine is Hasbro) battery pack/speaker module which fits and looks the same but is not configured the same and sounds extremely low...

It sounds like the issue may not be the speaker, but the transistor on the board that acts as the amplifier. That transistor may be blown, resulting in the lower volume.

I tried using the battery pack from my Vader's lightsaber on the Anakin and the volume and sound is fine with that one. My original Anakin (hasbro) battery pack/speaker has good volume but the sound is horrible and crackling like when a speaker goes bad and when I use the master replica battery pack it sounds good and clear but the volume is really low   are you talking about the board in the hilt or is there a board with a transistor in the battery pack somewhere?

I was referring to the sound board in the hilt, yes. If the Vader battery pack sounds normal, then that would rule out the sound board.

You may have to cut apart the original pack and change the speaker.

I got the new speaker and was able to get it replaced.  It works great now but I might get a better speaker since the one I got is not as loud as the original but still loud enough.  I'm going to try to make a small tutorial on how to do this since it was very hard to find any info whatsoever on how to do the replacement and I fear there are plenty of people out there that go through the same problem but end up never fixing it or getting rid of it when all in all it can be fixed with a budget of about $5 lol...

Nice job,  I'm sure that wasn't easy to cut open the original battery pack like that,  if the saber is still a collectible to you.  The speakers need to be 8ohm,  if memory serves,  so just be sure to find one in that range.  Wattage can be higher,  but the resistance needs to be the same,  or you'll risk blowing the transistor/amp on the board.

Thanks. Yes, the new speaker is an 8ohm 2 watt

Nice, I have the same problem on my Luke's anh with removable blade. Could you tell the colors of your speaker wires(Assuming that your saber has a yellow and brown wires)? Becuase I dont remember which one is the negative/ positive.

And if you are gonig to do a tutorial about it, it would be very helpful to me.

Thank you, and sorry for my bad english.

Hi Dave. I'm from Thailand. I've got a Black Series Yoda lightsaber and I accidentally threw it on the ground. The volume is very low now. Please let me know where did you buy a replacement. Thanks Dave.

Dave, did you happen to build a tutorial on this? I’m wanting to replace the speaker on my Anakin MR 2005 saber with a bass speaker I bought from Custom Saber shop.

Other then a complete rebuild I don't see any other way to get audio back ... and im not spending/rebuilding  ~$160USD on a 10yer old 1/2 plastic hilt that only has green blade ...
