Title: Luke's Collection thread part 2
Post by: benlurkin on July 22, 2006, 06:21:56 PM
As I've been away for a while and I have a thing or two to add to my collection gallery here, I decided to start a new thread to mark the occasion.  (This is the continuation of this collection thread here.)
The first new item since I've been gone is called the Norrebo by Ikea:

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2Fnorrebo.jpg&hash=c7ae324e320c23b4cee082a70632595d64498441)
(Just a phone picture but I suppose you'll forgive it as it is just for this gag)

Now as you can imagine this can only mean one thing, time to reorganize the collection!!  More pics to come. ;D

As usual I can put up more detailed pics if there is any interest.

I wish I had an Ikea near me.  Looking good Luke ;)  Any plans to add a Vader helmet?

Luke you just gave me a good idea, I'll shall look at IKEA one of these days, yet I still don't have enough room but I'll look around to get some more ideas.

So many good ideas at Ikea for prop displays, and of course the prices are always right as well.  Every piece of furniture you see in my shots are actually from Ikea. Gotta save up money to give to MR somehow.  :D

As for a Vader helmet, the rumors about a possible ROTJ reveal Vader have made me wary to jump in on one of the ROTS ones.  One of those nice mid range Rubies, to go with the rest of my Rubies set might work as well.  We'll just have to see.

I've really started to enjoy the idea of collecting helmets as well, but taking one look at my shocktrooper you might understand why.

I wonder why Chancellor Palpatine would be so interested in the Emperor's Own?  It's almost like those two completely different people are related some how. ???

Sorry about that, sometimes I totally forget my true identity, "must live the character", I'm loosing my credibility here  ;D

I just love the suspension of disbelief the prequels have about Palps, since most serious fans knew the Emperor's name, while most casual fans did not.  Too much fun.

I just realized you can't see one saber in that set up:

I know I swore I'd never get one, but when the price is right, well, what can I say? ;D

True, the prequels might have felt a bit different to those who didn't know and then they were all crying & shocked when true nature of Chancellor was exposed  ;D.

The ROTJ EE, is such a great saber, so unique.  A proper realization of what the EE line should be.  Not exactly the prop, but what it might have been, and it's just so shiny and nice. 8)

I've heard that you can't wear MR's helmets.  They don't fit a human head because all the clone troopers were cg animated.  I could be wrong though.

Well I know I can't fit the Clone helmets, but I do have a bit of a big head. ::)  Does look quite comfy though.

As for the ROTS Vader, it really is amazing what a great ebay deal can do to your resolve.  I suspect that might end up being what I do with the ROTJ Vader as well. :D  No willpower what so ever. :-[

Too true, Master Knucle, too true.

In the interest of expanding the coverage of my customs, as had been requested in the previous thread, I'm posting these shots of my Obi apprentice saber.  I took them a few weeks back, and can offer more if there is any interest (as with any of my collection).

It was made by Luuke of thelightsaber.com fame, and might just have been his last saber project ever, sad to say.

As always click on the thumbnail for the full-sized picture.

(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_appobi4.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/appobi4.jpg)

This is the apprentice saber as seen on the cover of the novel The Rising Force.  Obi-wan used it before he made his own (in that famous Jedi rite of passage), which I believe was the TPM saber.  (I just happen to have a picture of it as well, this one is my Label EL.)

I'm a little surprised that no one has asked about those two interesting cases on my shelf.  But then again as I still cannot elaborate on them yet, I really should be glad there has not been any curiosity. ::)

How is the Darth Vader ROTS BTW? I have been thinking about getting one since it is very cheap on ebay. It would be that or Obi-Wan ROTS
Title: Re: Luke's Collection thread part 2
Post by: benlurkin on July 30, 2006, 01:59:53 PM
The ROTS Vader is surprisingly nice in person, not my favorite, might even be my least favorite in my collection, but not as bad as I thought it before.  That said, given the fact that it was never seen on screen and since you do have an Ani ROTS LE DS, I really think you'd do much better with a "Dual of the Heros" set up, by picking up an Obi LE.  The price may not be quite as good as the Vader, but in my opinion it is a far superior LE. ;)

Well it really is a matter of your personal tastes, but to me, nothing makes as good of a ROTS pair as these two:

I think a Battle of the Heros setup would be cool, and now I'd be able to do it with FXs. I also like the Darth Vader one too....ahhh decisons, decisons. I got my eye on a few ebay auctions for both sabers. We will see in the coming weeks :)

Why do you say that that might be his last saber, what happened to thelightsaber.com?

Luuke's said that thelightsaber.com will be back soon, but he's retiring from the custom business.  Shame too, he had some great looking ones in the works for this year.

why did he retire?
Title: Re: Luke's Collection thread part 2

He's focusing on other projects; his site, and this intriguing modular prop display system.  And he wanted to spend more time on his real job and with his family (doing a saber run is time consuming I'm sure).

There was a third empty saber space when I last updated my complete collection that might have been hard to notice as there was a saber in the same case.
(As always click on the thumbnail for a full-sized shot)

Now that it's in there my latest addition is quite hard to miss.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_newmaul1.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/newmaul1.jpg)
As you might gather from the black plaque this is indeed a custom, made by Roman of Roman's Empire productions.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_newmaul2.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/newmaul2.jpg)
That is an FX end cap crystal in there to complete the BD maul effect.  And from this pic you can see the angled cut.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_newmaul3.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/newmaul3.jpg)
I may do some more work on this one later, but even as it is it looks great to my eye with it's big brother from MR.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_newmaul4.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/newmaul4.jpg)
And here is one more look now with the cover of the Kodofett case I'd picked up for it.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_newmaulcase.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/newmaulcase.jpg)

(More to come, VERY soon.)

Roman's BD Maul run did really did turn out great, I'm thrilled with mine.

I don't have time to properly elaborate but let me say quickly that my modified quote is quite accurate.  But I'll save that for later. ::)

(No more empty display cases for me!  ;D )

When I started this thread again a few weeks back I quite nonchalantly left in this picture of two empty kodofett cases holding a prominent location in my collection.  This was because I was expecting the addition to my collection that arrived today.
(As always click on any of my thumbnails to see a full-sized picture.)
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_expansion1.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/expansion1.jpg)

This is how my shelf stands now:
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_maraset1.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/maraset1.jpg)
On the right you see my previously featured Mara Jade-Skywalker saber from Union.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_ucover.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/ucover.jpg)
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_maraset3.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/maraset3.jpg)
And then on the left are my two new additions.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_maraset2.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/maraset2.jpg)
The first, is Mara's Saber from the Jedi Knight expansion set Mysteries of the Sith.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_motscover.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/motscover.jpg)
I really love that brass emitter detail.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_maraset5.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/maraset5.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_maraset6.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/maraset6.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_maraset7.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/maraset7.jpg)
Then we have Mara's saber from the By the Emperor's Hand.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_ehcover.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/ehcover.jpg)

Both of these sabers were custom made by The Master Sabersmith Oz.  They are truly remarkable to behold, but beyond that, they are special to me as they round out my Mara saber collection, something I've been pursuing for some time.  I cannot properly express the feelings of owning these truly amazing pieces, let alone how nice it is to share my Mara Saber collection. ;D

Though mine is the most complete Mara saber collection I've heard of, thelightsaber.com actually listed two more Mara sabers, one from a short comic story that I've kind of disregarded and then another from EH that was exactly like the king of ugly Vader ROTJ.  I already have plans for the Vader CE and that one. ;)

(Click thumbs for full-size)

I previously posted these over at RS (as they did come about as part of a discussion there) so they may look familiar to some.

Even so, I really like how they turned out.  I even kept the AOTC Clone in there afterwards, and I think I'll keep it in there until I find something to replace it with, whenever that may be. ::)

Luke your collection never ceases to amaze me. I do not know what you must do for a living to afford all this. But if you ever need a partner i am a business major  ;) .

I really like those helmets and i know i have asked before but have you tried em on? What is the detail like on the inside?

I have honestly never seen an inside shot of any of the helms think you could hook us up?

I'm quite happy with the configuration as well, but as it is ever changing, the fun of getting all together will continue. :D

Sorry for not getting those pics of the inside of the helmets up yet, Obi-wan, but as you can imagine it's not exactly easy to get into those cases with the shelf right above it.  I should be able to get some of those pics sometime next week, but I'll leave that up to the postman. ::)

As my setup has come a long way from the first pic I posted of it here (see thumbnail below) I've come to realize half the fun of a display is to find creative ways to make use of the space you have.  I wholeheartedly recommend just moving some stuff around for the fun of if, even if it doesn't fit, it is a great way to have your collection be active, not to mention it's a great excuse to pull out and handle the sabers, something which never gets old. :D

Well I was able to get this a few days earlier than I expected so here are a couple quick shots of the inside.

Here is what the interior looks like, Obi-wan, looks very comfy, but far to small for me!

I definitely will have more shots up soon, perhaps not of the interior, but wanted to put these up right away as I was so excited to get them. ;)

One might wonder why I held off for this weekend to take those helmet interior pics.  Similarly the question of why I'd put a budget Rubies helmet is a Custom case worth several times more than the helmet itself.  Of course if one did wonder about this for more than a few moments one would realize I had an imminent addition to my collection.

I'm very pleased to showcase my newly arrived ROTS LE Spec Ops Helmet.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec1.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec1.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec2.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec2.jpg)
(Click on any thumbnail for a larger version)

Here are a few close-ups shots of the newly referbished model of the Vader's Legion Helmet.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec3.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec3.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec4.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec4.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec5.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec5.jpg)

And then the other side and a top down view.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec6.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec6.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec7.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec7.jpg)

Here you see it back in its case, with the Shock Trooper and of course the Rubies back together again.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec8.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec8.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec9.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec9.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec10.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec10.jpg)

In case anyone is concerned the Jango blasters are still right by the Helmets, just off to the side now to allow for the new addition.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec11.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec11.jpg)(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_spec12.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/spec12.jpg)

I'm really thrilled with the way the Spec Ops came out, and especially enjoy the look of it set up next to the Shock, quite the combination. ;D

It's been a long time since I've updated this thread.  So long in fact that I neglected a very important update.  One of my absolute favorite sabers has now finally come home to my collection.

(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_LukeESB.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/LukeESB.jpg)

Luke's saber from ANH might have been our first experience with a lightsaber, but from my childhood, there was no more clear a memory of what a n actual saber looked like as the one stuck in the snow, just out of reach, in that cave on Hoth. ;D

Yeah! finally master Luke, but the question remains.... why didnt you get this one earlier.

gotta say, i just got a graflex ANH/ESB kit from Yoda, and man, those hilts i just love, in fact ANH luke is my favorite hilt, and then ESB, and then all the rest!

Congrats on your new addition, your collection is AWESOME!!

I completely agree, R2, it really is amazing to think about how late in the game I picked up the ESB LE.  I'd been looking for one for a very long time, but it was one of those things where I'd make a big purchase just before a saw a good deal for one.  However little while ago I happened to find an amazing deal (courtesy of the RS ebay watch thread) which surpassed any I'd seen previous or since, so it ended up being worth the wait. ;)

Good to see your collection still expanding Luke.  After getting a Dooku LE for $275 shipped from a member of the RPF, I've come to the conclusion that boards like the RPF and Rebelscum are a good resource for getting good deals.

(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_v2-4.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/v2-4.jpg)

A quick comparison with the good old EE.

(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_v2-5.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/v2-5.jpg)

And then back in the case for safe keeping.
(https://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/th_v2-6.jpg) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/v2-6.jpg)

I'm really thrilled with the V2 Oz did for me, which is a great way to cap off my Luke collection.  It stands now quite complete with a graflex AHN, ANH EE, ESB LE, ESB cutaway, ROTJ EE and now the Oz V2.

And if anyone is curious about what's coming next, you can sneak a peek at my "workbench" area. ;)

And now, unfortunately, I'm going to have to pass along an announcement I've been quite dreading.  I've gotten a new job, and while it is a better opportunity, I'm going to have to move.

(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2Fth_MT1.jpg&hash=b46378e8202fc8eb53819e1a09a5bcdc806a421b) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/MT1.jpg)(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2Fth_MT2.jpg&hash=9bcd065f52aabc446651a8749c9d1b8dc023580e) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/MT2.jpg)

As you can see, the collection is already packed up.  And based on my experience it may be away for several more months.  While the old collection may miss the 30th anniversary, when I'm settled back in and have it displayed again, I'll be sure to take plenty of pics of the new setup.  Until then, unless there are any requests for pictures I can fulfill with my archive, I'm afraid this thread is pretty much closed. :(

It is a shame that you have to pack your collection away, Luke.
However, this will give you an opportunity to re-arrange it in your new home, and maybe make it look even better (if possible)!

Good luck with your new job. Hopefully it will bring you more cash to spend on Star Wars stuff!  ;)

I know how you feel about having to pack up your collection Luke.  Grant I only have FX sabers but it sucks that they're in their boxes right now.  I would take one out and play with it but I hate having to consantly take them out and put them back in and reseal up the package.  Oh well... another week and I will be able to play with them again.

I feel your pain BigT.  I just had to box up my FXs they other day, and boxed away they will have to stay until I'm moved in to the new place.  It's quite depressing to even think about it.  A month or two with no FXs??  I'm going through withdrawal already! :'(  :D

Title: Re: Luke's Collection thread part 2
Post by: benlurkin on August 29, 2007, 03:43:41 PM
Perhaps a little Louis Armstrong?  "If you have to ask...."

But seriously, Oz is indeed a custom saber maker.  All hand made personally by Oz, he pretty much can make anything you like, but they do cost the same as an LE, with the same amount of lead-time as an MR pre-order.  I only have three of his sabers, but they are quite wonderful.  If I can find the box tonight I'll put all three together to show them off.  Great stuff. ;D

There are some great tribute threads of Oz's work over at RS as well.

He generally keeps a low profile, but he did mention last year about maybe putting a site together.  Even so I think you can navigate RS without a membership, I go there without bothering to log in all the time.  This thread here became a bit of an Oz appreciation thread.
