SOLVED - CF 9 Wiring question for Tri-Cree LED
« on: January 25, 2019, 03:33:56 PM »
Hey hey! Working on a build with a CF9. The manual shows a dual LED die in the example on page 46 of the manual, but I plan to use a BBW Tri Cree. Since two LEDs will be the blade color (both blues) and one is the FoC (the white) do I wire the two same-color LEDs in parallel so they both receive the same supply/channel voltage?

I'm planning to use 2 14500 cells for 7.4ish volts.

Seems like this should be a pretty basic setup, but I haven't been able to find much with my searches and I'd prefer to not release any magic smoke on a $150 sound card :D

Thanks!

14500’’s are not ideal for this. You would be better off using the 14650’s.  However, you could wire the two Blues in series and run them at 1A. That’s the way to go.

I find your arguments vague and unconvincing.

Quiet! *Slap* And there’s a fresh one if you mouth off again.

I'm kinda stuck with a AA holder so my battery options are limited in this case.  Thanks for the reply!

to echo what K2SO said above, all correct, you can wire your led dice in series to reduce the current load and still benefit from correct runtime (based on the smaller batteries you're using).

Well, when it's from the man himself, that's the plan I'm going with.  Thanks!

Thanks all - this worked out great.  I have one more question but I'll start a new thread for that.
