Much patience Master Qui-gon has, to help you,  yes. ;)

Whoa, whoa.  No need to get antsy.

Perhaps this conversation would be better in PM, so as not to hijack the thread. ;)

It isn't really hijacking the thread. It is a build on. It is talking about the same thing and new information has been added. The mods see that. I know Chewi would have said something for sure to me.

Relax,  she's not getting antsy.....that's just how she is! ;)  and yes,  Darth Yoda's questions were valid as the tutorial in this topic was missing a few details.

So, I don't think one of my questions were answered. Do you have to use a resistor for the led? and if so, what kind?

No,  no resistor necessary.   Run the led directly from the outputs for the led string.

Thank you Qui-Gon. Your help has been excellent and very much appreciated! You may have helped to start a new Yoda sabersmith. HAHA doubtful, but who knows right?

Sorry. One last question. What size and type of screw do you use for a blade retention screw? For some reason, I totally overlooked that. Also, do you have to change anything to add that screw?

Typically an 8 or 10-32 screw is used.

I used an 8-32 button head on the ones I converted,  and replaced the screw above the "glass eye":

This was in the tutorial from Ultrasabers,  too.   ;)

There are different sizes. Is it the 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2?

Hmmm...I think I used a 1/2" with a lock washer under the head of the screw.

Hello FX forums :)  I just recently got into the lightsaber hobby.  Long time star wars fan though.  Two days ago I  joined a forum at a different site.  While searching for info on the topic of this thread I was linked here.  I'm very glad that I found this thread and forum, there is a lot of info here for the Luke ANH conversion.  I had read up on how to convert a few MR/HFX sabers over the past week, mainly paid attention to the Anakin ROTS conversion.  I knew I'd be buying that along with a Luke ANH.  Got both for 50% off at a store becasue they were opened.  The anakin is mint, the luke has a few minor marks on the hilt.  So i decided that I wanted to mod the Luke first and wanted to do a cyan lux III.  To my dismay I find no kit and little info.  After reading this thread and the pdf file that Jinn linked I feel that I am about ready to order my parts and go for it.  I was just wondering about a few things...

These conversions require you to re-use the stock blades as they have a slightly smaller opening in the blade socket for TCSS or Ultrasabers blades.  UltraFX blades will,  however,  fit them just fine.

Since I haven't modded a saber yet, (don't have any blades here other than a MR) I don't understand this fully.  I'm guessing you mean that the ID of the Luke hilt is smaller than the OD of a TCSS blade?  I'm not sure what you meant by 'they'.  If this is the case.... do you think I could remove enough material in the blade holder area to fit a TCSS blade?  The only reason I'm fretting about it is that I've only done research on the tcss blades and watched videos with those blades using the same light I want to use and I like the set up and look of it.  I'll have to research the ultrafx blades.  Do you think that the MR board running a cyan lux III and an ultraFX blade would work out well?  I've seen videos of a lot of sabers who's light tappers out toward the end and then gets brighter at the tip due to reflection, I'm trying to avoid that weak spot in the blade.

With the plastic piece (blade holder) still being used, are these duleable?  That's my main reason for modding, so that I can duel with them in a rough fashion.

Thank you Qui Gon for all the info that you have put here for us.  I really appreciate it.  Have you ever used the luxeon star heatsink from tcss in this conversion?  The awesome guy that pointed me this direction said that he uses those to convert.  Thank you again!

Edit:  Now I feel pretty stupid because I realize who you are ;)
