Mara Jade with Petit Crouton
« on: August 08, 2010, 07:31:54 AM »
My Mara Jade Saber, from the Korbanth run. I really enjoyed converting this one, I like the design of that hilt.
I remove the inner 3/4" tube, I wanted to keep a 1" blade for that saber, despite it's a small hilt, purple is usually no as bright as a native color and I didn't want to use any lumen in a smaller OD blade.

I machined a new emitter sleeve and installed an Acerocket led holder just behind, held in place with the brass screw. The Graflex red button is used as the blade retention screw.

Features :
- Petit Crouton 1.2 with the DarkMeat soundfont.
- Anti Power Off Protection (A-POP)
- Custom lit Aux switch with a PC controlled blinking sequence
- Invisible (almost) speaker holes
- Purple blade obtained from a LedEngin @1.5A
- Rumbling motor
- 2x14500 li-ion cells

Looks GREAT erv'!

I'll watch the video in a bit, I'm curious about this "DarkMeat" sound font.

Erv: I love that saber. The PC is a great little soundboard it seems. Is it easier, or more complex to wire than a CF?

Hey, erv, what type of batteries have you put in your saber?  ;)

Sorry for the banal question (not so banal for me)!  :-[

If you wonder why I ask you that, see here: http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=25260.0.

Thanks

Offending I wasn't, but I don't like postwhoring. Especially in my threads.
Salvatore, the battery type is listed in the features of the first post. If the question was "which brand ?" regarding your issue with batteries, those are DX ultrafire (blue). Mounted as a pack.
If you have some that can't be recharged, it can be the protection PCB that failed and stays open. You can still remove them and build your own custom battery pack using a 2 cell protection PCB from battery junction for instance. Or just buy replacement cells at DX. I'm getting myself off topic, sorry about that.

PC can be said to be "less complex" since it proposes less features. The basics are the same, power supply voltage, luxeon leads, 3 pads for the switches. Then no FoC, only 2 accents. Still, you can wire up a progressive power on indicator (mirroring the luxeon flicker) and a rumbling motor. So it's slightly simpler, but not much.

Thanks Erv, I was just wonering about it. It looks to be quite complex still, but then, I'm still a new kid when it comes to wiring soundboards.

Where are the speaker holes exactly? I can't see hardly any trace of them at all. If that's them on the pommel edges, they are nearly invisible.

complexity is a subjective matter. To give an equivalent, it's the same "complexity" as wiring a USB.
Speaker holes : I told ya they are invisible  ;) (watch the video)

I LOVE IT! That is one hot Mara (as would anyone expect anything else from that sultry red head?)  ;D  It's nice to see one of Korbanth's sabers with a 1" blade and a proper soundboard as well....nothing less should be in that Mara.

I'm glad there are more fans of this hilt.

The build came out very nice. Interesting idea one the switch placement.
