Creating Your Own Form
« on: August 22, 2013, 01:30:40 PM »
Hey saberland, so I have a question in regards to saber forms, figured this was the place to ask.

How would you go about creating your own lightsaber form?

I've been working on my own character, Rando Kex, and I've given him his own unique storyline, his own outfit, his own lightsaber, his own squad, everything. But I really want to make him (ultimately, myself) a unique fighter, with moves nobody has seen before. My solution, to make my own saber form.  But I dont know how to do it, and I wouldn't know what to call it.

Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated :)

Hey there GuardianKex...

Well, we'll try to get some footage of the workshop and maybe post bits & pieces online... it's just always a question of logistics and time and editing, etc.

Awesome that you are in Canada though... I recently went there to work on Corey Vidal & Wheezy Waiter's saber fight (their 3rd one).  Rob (Madcow) has worked with them as well.  :)

I love making creative forms!! I used to compete all the time with sword. The most important thing is the fundamentals and basics of your weapon. Once you learn the simple functions let your creativity flow by combining moves and spins to create a powerful, effective and individual piece of art. After learning how to use a katana I drew inspiration from traditional forms as well as what they call in Sport martial arts "extreme weapon forms" to help inspire and push me to become more and more creative. Combining strikes with spin is the easiest way to add a little flare to even the simplest of motions.

I would perhaps check out some katana or sword forms online. In the words of the Emperor "To fully understand something you must learn all its aspects"

If you have question of just want to chat shoot me a PM and I'd be more than happy to help you in any way I can.
