I know there have been a couple of shots of how the new Maul FX stands up to the LE but I wanted to add in an in-depth look. I would post my own review solely of the FX, but first, there are already several wonderful reviews up, and secondly, though I do drive past MR HQ all the time, I am on the other side of the country from their shipping depot and consequently didn't receive mine until after most others.
(There are two pics that I may replace and the both include other projects in the shot)
As always with my pics, please click on the thumbs for a larger version.
I started out with a wide shot, showcasing just how well the two line up:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2FDMwide.jpg&hash=86aad8c1e7e9cd243ba3b4a05e3ae374e506cfc8) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/DMwide.jpg)
Next we see the primary difference between the two, the sound holes, definitely a necessary evil, giving that controversial loud hum a chance to be heard:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2FDMcoupler.jpg&hash=06192c71d32ec45ea0ffa824cc2382849478af82) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/DMcoupler.jpg)
You might have noticed the lighting doing odd things with the knurled knobs, these pics illustrate it is indeed just the lighting:

The single covertech on the LE reminded me to remove one of mine from the FX:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2FDMctwrong.jpg&hash=17f5c4756cad37ae870232e916025bf7da4a8504) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/DMctwrong.jpg)(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2FDMctfixed.jpg&hash=3d2f2494154c433814cff89d131bfb8f090677ad) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/DMctfixed.jpg)
Another look at the covertech clips and the LEDs along the side:

And finally a look at all three of my full Maul incarnations.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2FDM3x.jpg&hash=826ed085aaae2c1faaa9f38799a6f131cb6782a0) (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/benlurkin/DM3x.jpg)
In closing let me reiterate what the photos show, the Maul FX is the most accurate FX made to date in terms of its LE, and by extension prop counterpart. If this is a sign of things to come we can indeed expect great things from the future of the FX line.
I'll be sure to update as I think of anything to add. If anyone has questions or would like to see a certain part in comparison I'll be glad to add more pictures as well.

Great pics! :o
-
Nice comparison, Luke!
-
I thought Maul's FX was pretty slim, close enough to the real thing for me!

what does the emitter look like on the LE? (end-view)
-
The Maul emitter end is actually quite plain. Here is a shot from RS (http://www.rebelscum.com) of the SE end, which is of course the same as the LE. I'll try to get up a pic of mine in its place tomorrow.

Wow! This FX is really close to the LE!
Impressive.
Most impressive!;)
-
hey nice job luke
-
I've always wanted to see an FX vs. LE comparison. Good initiative Luke... :)
-
Hmm, maybe I should do the rest of the FXs??
-
I've done one for Anakin ROTS LE and FX but it's buried in the forums somewhere ::) Maybe I should redo it
-
I was just thinking of yours DS, as I thought about which I could even do. It was nicely done. 8)
-
Thanks 8)
-
Well DS you have indeed inspired me. I took a bunch of shots for a new LE vs FX feature, it should be up tonight I'll post a link from here.
-
I was gonna redo the Anakin LE and FX comparison with my better camera but didn't have time
-

Darth Bane
-
I already did some shots of the Luke ROTJ FX next to my EE, and lets just say it didn't quite stand up. :D
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi11.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa178%2Fbenlurkin%2FHeadtohead1.jpg&hash=e9b47c7349692761f1af0c9306e25dfbeb0339c2) (http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=1087.0)

yeah but thats the EE, I'm sure the LE is a bit more like it
-
nice comparisons Luke ;)
-
That new mace thread is pretty complete, but one of these days I really need to redo that Luke ROTJ thread.
-
What about a Darth Vader one?
-
Next on my list! ;)
-
BTW which darth Vader LE do you have?
-
Hey Luke, is the covertec knob on the FX easy to take off and can it be easily put back on? I may be getting the single one soon and it will bother me
-
It is held in place with a single screw and can be removed and replaced with ease. Now, the BD end cap can also be disassembled with a similar amount of effort, but that is a story for another time. ;)
-
Thanks
-
Man, that maul looks awsome! I am so tempted to buy one but its really expensive and I need a jedi saber but... aww its so AWSOME!!!
-
wow-i never knew that the fx's were so much fatter than the LE's.Thats just my opinion
