Accent LEDs with a HyperBlade?
« on: March 12, 2010, 03:21:43 AM »
I just wrote to Jim Shima to ask, but since I'm an impatient geek, I thought I'd ask here. I've got an LED Driver Ver. 2 and SaberSD sound module, and I'd like to use an illuminated anti-vandal momentary switch with it. Does anyone know how to wire an accent LED on the Ver. 2? (Obviously, I don't want it on all the time--just when the saber is powered up.)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answering my own question here. I figured out that of the eight colored wires leading to the LED strip, the yellow wire is the common positive, and the others are negative. (Sound familiar?) I put an 82 Ohm resistor on the illuminated anti-vandal momentary switch, and connected it in parallel to the yellow wire and the green wire. (I chose the green wire pretty much at random.) This worked, but the upper part of the blade looks a bit "muddy". Stupidly, I didn't bother to hook the blade up before making the alteration, so I don't know if the accent LED has affected the appearance of the blade.

Is the blade still muddy at the top? I have some hyperdyne parts and hope to get a light blade to complete mine as soon as they become available.

Just wondering if you found a way around your problem.

Matt the v2 driver uses a gnd to turn on look at the switch pads on the driver one sound be marked gnd or minus the other one is the input to the driver to turn it on. Connect the gnd side of the anti vandal switch led to the v2 driver switch input, connect the positive side of the led in the anti vandal to the positive of the battery pack with a resister and you are set.
