Body snatchers?

There were more than six, but there are only six that you can see.

People don’t come around much anymore, for a variety of reasons, unless they’re looking to sell something. Blame “Social Media”.

I totally noticed that too...
I see lots of lightsaber FB groups. Some good info and content but too many stupid comments and posts to filter through.

Still around, just got busy probably with Youtube and Instagram etc.
Felt like years ago my day job allowed for more internet surfing so I could spend a lot of the day on here and no one was the wiser at work, but there's new bosses past couple years since like 2018 and so there's less time to mess around during the day online. The good old days were so good! These days too much rushing around. Will have some customs to show off pretty soon so expect some more posts coming soon :)

Some are still around, in different capacities. Some that you mentioned were more collectors, and have simply moved on to other things. Most of the older inactive staff were retired. Though not very active, Nightstorm is still on the staff here, and makes an occasional appearance.

Yes, there are a lot fewer staff than had been in years past. There isn’t nearly the level of nonsense as there was years ago. Most of the agitators are out of the hobby, for the most part. And as Eastern pointed out, many probably check in to read what’s going on, but don’t need to log in to do so.

Like most people you mentioned, even some staff members have “phased out” of the hobby. It happens. Not all on the staff were builders, some were just collectors - C-3P0, and Luke (#2) come to mind. People (staff and members) have lives outside of the hobby, and sometimes, a lot of people just move on. They have their one (or more) sabers, are very happy, and just move on to other interests. That’s simply how it goes.

It’s not just here. most of the old forums have this “issue”, here, TCSS and the group that replaced JSSDC.

I have not been body-snatched

… yet.  :cheesy:

Once I hear back from those new probe droids we sent your way, all bets are off.

I check in from time to time, but haven't built anything recently worth posting about. My shop has been dismantled for over a year (long story) but is slowly getting back into shape where I could resume building.

A lot went to FB as it's easier to keep tab on anything new and see what food their friends and family have taken a pic of 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤬

A lot grew up and now have a family to look after.

Some it was a faze of finally having their own money to spend.

Others realised cars and girls are better and if you want to run one being around any type of collecting group doesn't help keep that car maintained or girl from leaving.

The people you named, most left the scene, most of us from 10 odd years ago are now in our 40s and 50s and just can't be bothered.

others probably got the sabers they wanted for their collection and were done.

There also a lot who just said no and walked away from star wars after the mess of the last trilogy, not even the good TV stuff swayed them as 7,8,9 left a bad taste, it did for me.

then all new fans will do FB and probably don't even know what a forum is.
When it comes down to it people just want an easy life so stuff like forums take a back seat to the 30 second tiktok attention span and instant gratification.

Add to that the overnight saber smiths that appeared out of nowhere on fb when ep7 was released all claiming to be experts!
There was a few good ones, most haven't a clue and produce shoddy work or are just scammers.

Myself, I've had a rough time the last 4 years dealing with my mother's passing and all the bs that followed with family arguments and moving home. I got back into RC cars during the lockdowns which, is equally expensive and takes up far more shelf space 🤦‍♂️ doh. I'm not collecting sabers anymore as the ones I wanted I have apart from 1 which I'll finish the CAD for soon.

Personally, I lost a lot of interest in the hobby because the tech just got so good.  All my old lightsabers that I collected ten or twelve years ago are virtually Stone Age relics compared to the modern stuff, so I've just been sort of slowly upgrading those over time.  I got the sabers I wanted, back then, and I lost touch with the hobby once I got busy with a professional job.  That, plus the two-year waits for orders from some of the premiere sabersmiths, coupled with pricetags approaching four figures, and it's just too expensive a hobby these days.

I am surprised that this forum is as quiet as it is, though. I was here before the Disney Trilogy killed a lot of my love for Star Wars, and frankly, that still hasn't come back in the same way.  Maybe that's all it is.  Maybe people are just moving on from Star Wars in general, sad though that is.

Still have a shop, still build things from time to time, and still follow the forum here. Cannot even begin to follow everything in the saber world as a whole or on facebook groups- for me it has morphed into personal and friend projects. Or clients I’ve already done work for in the past. I haven’t taken on a new client in years. That, with time dedicated to things other than taking pics, uploading, linking, etc. has resulted in lack of participation, even if I still login to see what’s going on.

There’s a season for everything, and now I think this forum serves a lot like the Jedi Archives. Invaluable in its own right, and only useful to those who know what they are looking for- be it nostalgia or foundational building knowledge of years gone by.

Yes, maybe a name change is overdue, fxsabers archives. I can't believe many commissions come through here anymore.
I still get the occasional tri cree commission from those that know what it is, like my youngling saber contest entry in 2020, those are normally to keep cost down or a shelf saber they have no need for a blade, coz play or kids saber. So old school isn't completely gone yet.

Hello everyone

I have something to say…

It’s better to burn out, than to fade away

I took a while for me to respond to this as it is a sensitive and negative issue in many ways
but at the same time there is a level of positive accomplishment that can’t be ignored.

Is it disappointing to see the participation here down yes, but traffic has been down for a lot of forums compared to what it used to be.
I agree with much of what has been said and would add the following…

Since 2005 starting with being a supporting forum for Master Replicas force fx-lightsabers
to the inclusion of the after market with the earliest makers such as Parks, Light-tech, Random Sabers
and others through the years of Hyperdyne, Ultrasabers, Saberforge to the Formation of the Saber Guild
for the FX-SABERS manufacturers and Affiliates Like TCSS, Plecter Labs, Vaders Vault, LDM, Madcow
and of course my self as FX-Sabers with My Builds along with so many of the recommended manufacturers
listed in the Saber Guild or Mining Colony here in the forum.
We were an intricate part in creating the modern world of “effect” lightsabers now generically and now
even generally referred to as an Fx-saber.
And of course not to forget the creation of the first "Lightsaber chassis” with Crystals in them that expanded
the entire experience of owning a saber with such details and effects.

During the years there have been many alliances formed along with conflicts of interest so to speak that in this respect
some good some bad regardless of fault or anterior motives against or in favor of this site and forum have shaped
its evolution popularity usefulness etc…

I did my best to protect the saber community and fought for the allowing of its existence in the eyes of Lucas Film Licensing
for a very long time and while most don’t know that pain and suffering, for those who do they know the true value of what
we have actually accomplished that so many not in the know don’t appreciate but that is the sacrifice that needed to be made.

From my experience with all of this I feel confident in saying that if it wasn’t for the ground work we have laid here since the beginning
the saber community and technology simply would not have become as vast and plentiful as it is today.

In reflection, anyone who has been a member here over the years has contributed to the evolution of the Lightsaber and community
and that is something everyone who has contributed should be proud of.

As it has been mention already, the repository of history and information contained with in along with the fact that the forum remains
here for those who still wish to or will again choose to use it as an information archive or for new members moving forward.
I think I speak for those of us that keep it going, we will do what we must to continue to provide this resource for the saber community.

The Name won’t change but perhaps the Perspective and Purpose can once again evolve.

I feel if the forum could actually speak for its self it would say this…
1&t=15s

What I want to say…

May the Force be with You
always

Good to hear from a lot of the saber guild that I respected so much, and simply as just a collector I still did enjoy this forum very much when i joined in 2013 and learned what I could.  The runs were truly exciting but as those have not materialized as expected or anymore I've faded away.  An archive seems as appropriate a description as any.  It is unfortunate that most don't know the contributions fx sabers made to the evolution of sabers but time to adapt and hand the reigns to the young SW fans.

[...] I did my best to protect the saber community [...]

Well, Yoda, if it means anything to you, I still only really trust the old SABER Guild members not to rip me off.  You also acted as a steward of the community, pointing us newbies in the direction of trustworthy folks while keeping us shielded from the less-trustworthy ones.  For that, and for so much more, I'd like to say thank you.  Thank you for all you've done for the hobby, and thank you for sharing it with us for all these years.

I still have my Fx-Sabers Vintage Graflex IV in pride of place in my study.  It's one of my most treasured possessions, right next to the one my dad built me all those years ago. :)

I just dropped in after a brief break and was also shocked to see the limited unread posts.  I hope this forum stays around as it has been a great resource!   I also think that the recent build contests were good for activity (I participated in the last 2.)

Really liked Yoda’s post on the impact this has had over the years…and to see he is making sabers again!
