Welcome to the forum zhi-don,

Looks cool.  I am sure our members that are in that area would be interested in pursuing it.  Shoot us some pics when you get a chance.  We'd love to see what cha got goin.

There are lots of cool members here with tons of saber building skills to help you out should you need it.  Ultrasabers also makes osme great stunt sabers.  They don't have sound but are about $80 very duelable and look pretty impressive for a simple stunt.  They are currently out of stock but should be having more come in soon.

Once again welcome to the forum.

I get the feeling that I should live one state over sometimes. Darn I am so close too. Are the classes a membership based program or what? I was wondering because I end up in California abot once a year.

TK-421 - We would love to show you pics and film, but since our classes are mostly at night we haven't been able to get a good video due to lack of ambient light. We could do some flash photography, but we deemed too dangerous. After all if you were fighting would you want bright flashes in your eyes?

Darth Resev - If we can figure out a way to get some, I will post them.

Princess Leia - We would love to have you too, lady fighter are well respected here.

RougeJedi - Yes, members of the Academy are also members in the Orange County Star Wars Society. But even so, anyone is welcome to drop by any of the classes and is welcome to join in, once they have been cleared by an instructor. We often have people who are in the area and just want some practice stop by.

Hey zhi-don,

welcome to the forums. I am newbie myself but the people here are really nice and helpful. So you have come to the right place for sure. :)

I wonder if there is something similar over here in Germany... I would really love to train dueling once i got my first saber.

May the force be with you!

Edit: i found a nice picture and video tutorial for dueling on www.saberproject.de
And you can even chose between english and german language.

Zhi Don, I left a message on http://boards.theforce.net/orange_county_ca/b10123/29270972/p1/?6, but I never got a response so I didn't know that the training was still going on. My screen name on this fx-sabers and theforce.net is opt1muspr1me. I'm currently fighting a cold, but hopefully next week I can join you in Stanton. I'm in HB.
I’d glad that I’m not alone, deep within the dork forest.

This group is still alive and kicking, after 6 years.

Sadly, Zhi-don has recently had to retire due to health issues and is no longer an Instructor.

I have been one of the Assistant Instructors for a couple of years now.

If there is anyone still interested in joining us, or just checking us out on Wednesday nights, feel free to PM me and I'll give you the details about where and what time we meet.

I'm building a new type of LED-string lightsaber that I hope will be three times as bright as any other similar blade. The problem is that to see if I've succeeded I need to compare it several other types of blades. When it's done I'd like to attend one of your meetings to do so. I'll be driving down from Lancaster, about 50 miles north of LA in the Antelope Valley. Can you provide directions?

Also, do you hold larger meetings where more people with lightsabers are likely to attend? For the best comparisons I'd lke to attend a meeting that has as many different tyoes of blades as possible.

I should expain that I'm so new to lightsabers that I barely know which end to hold.

Thank you.

I guess I should put this Topic on Notify.  :P

Our lightsaber class consists of a lot of poor college students. Many of them don't have light up sabers because they can't afford them, just Kendo shinai.

There's maybe 10 of us  that have light up sabers and those are only either MR/Hasbro LED string sabers, or with single, high powered LEDs in the hilts. You won't find a lot of different type of sabers to compare yours to. If you're making an LED string blade using LEDs from Makototsai, it will definitely brighter than any of our blades. Your trip would be wasted, if that's all you're interested in doing, comparing blade brightnesses.

We don't hold larger meetings with more people that have lightsabers. We are part of a Fan Force group on Theforce.net. You might want to contact the Inland Empire Fan Force and see if there are more varied lightsaber types out there.

You'll need to register for an account to post on their forums, of course.

The place were you're likely to see the most different types of lightsabers would probably be at a convention. You just missed Long Beach ComiCon by a couple weeks. Convention "season" is pretty much over in So Cal till next year.
