Orbital Machining Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Phantom Menace
#04 of 36Ever since I first saw The Phantom Menace in cinemas in 1999 i have been (man crush) in love with Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"I have a bad feeling about this"That was his first line. A line that was used many times in the original trilogy and a beautiful way to start the prequels with an instantaneous link "back to the future." It was a line that ignited my passion for star wars and despite what many people believe, I found TPM to be an absolutely amazing film. I love them all, every little detail, but this one is my favourite.
So we have my favourite Jedi, my favourite movie and now what? Of course Obi-Wans Saber is my favourite. I find its sleek design the most appealing of any saber in the films. The closest I have ever come to owning his lightsaber is those generic Lego lightsabers that all look the same. Then last year, a post appeared here on FX. A post so incredible I almost didn't believe it. Could it be real? A 100% screen accurate Obi-TPM, My favourite saber of all time was going to be produced.
It took me 0.027 seconds to respond to that post from Wat Tambor. Not bad considering 0.025 seconds of that were wasted on contorting my facial muscles into a gigantic grin that swallowed my face and made it rather difficult to see, let alone type my "I'm in" post. Later that day I received the PM congratulating me on my inclusion in the run and requesting my life savings to guarantee my spot.
What life savings? I said as I logged into paypal. Who needs money when you can rob banks like Qui-Gon?
So all of us in on this run waited patiently as Acerocket released little teasers along the way to whet our appetites. This was the first "run" i have been involved in and i must say it is staggering how much work goes into these things. As each update was posted i learned a bit more about the life of a machinist and the difficulties in bringing something like this to life.
Acerocket put so much effort into these things and it is just a pleasure to have been able to see him work so passionately. I cannot thank him enough. The same goes for the installers. They have all done an amazing job, especially working within such tight tolerances.
When i woke up this morning I found two packages sitting at the bottom of the stairs. The delivery man had obviously handed them to someone in my house and they decided not to alert me so i was shocked to say the least. I was certainly not expecting them so soon so thank you to Acerocket for the super fast shipping.
From there my excitement grew exponentially as each second passed. I raced them upstairs and began the unboxing of a lifetime.
Always be sure to use the right tools.

The VideoIn summary, I am just blown away by this saber. The chance to own a work of art like this just had to be taken and I am so glad that I did. Every detail has been planned and nothing has been left to chance. Acerocket had plenty of design issues along the way but he stuck to his guns and worked his magic to keep this thing accurate. In fact, this saber is so accurate that I've got a little guessing game for you all below called "See if you can tell the difference." Acerocket and all of the installers cannot be thanked enough for their efforts in bringing this saber to life. This saber will be cherished in my collection for life. Thank you
