Here's some pictures of the Mace, mostly at night, but there are some daytime ones at the end. The movie might be a little spotty/blurry, but it had to suffer the encoding from a Quicktime file to an .avi file. And yes, the pictures really show it to be blue sometimes, but it's closer to the purple in some of the other pictures. Also, a couple of the later pictures show the blotchiness, or at least one of the red lines (there are two on opposide sides) that go up the length of the entire blade.

Also, I'll take requests for any pictures people might want to see of the Mace, so long as my camera behaves. :)
Enjoy!

Sorry about the first link before. :( Forgot to capitalize the avi in the filename, but it should work now. :)
The blade is very bright (as long as there are fresh batteries in there), but I was a little disappointed by its less than full purple color at first (more bluish than purple). However, it began to grow on me, and I'm appreciating the color more and more. As for the hilt, it does feel a little heavier than a 3 battery model, but it doesn't feel much larger. I'd say it's about the same girth as the newer models since the 6-battery compartment is longer rather than wider (imagine 2 of the 3 battery compartment's stacked on top of each other). The hilt is a little longer than the Vader ESB, but maybe by a centimeter. And the hilt is in fact very "pretty," but take care when you're holding it. I tried practicing a couple duels with them, and I noticed a little bit of the gold accents beginning to rub off.
As for the red line, I'm actually more inclined to believe that it has blue LEDS with a red lining (in the picture, you can kinda make out a red circle inside the foam with another red line going though the circle). But whatever the red is, it very well might be a case of it being too close to the foam at the edges.

oh my...the hilt is wonderful but....but....the purple blade is...is...is not purple.....but why they did'nt use purple leds?
I was thinking about ordering a mace's one ....but now I'm not so sure.....
-
Actually, it made me cringe each time I hit the blade on the wall (yes, it was a wall), but I figured it'd count as my taps for the day, or the week rather. If you remember someone posting about a rattling and squeaky blade from hitting a bed, that was me. :( So it was a double cringe each time I made a clash sound, but my saber thankfully made it out alive (though I don't think I'll try that again). And I might try just hitting the hilt next time instead of the blade; I remember trying it once or twice but not getting anything, but maybe I wasn't hitting it hard enough.
About the purple, grogTM, they didn't use purple LEDs because I don't think they make them; I could be wrong about this, but it was always my impression. The blade isn't as purple as this, but more of a lighter, kinda pastel-like version of the purple. I think the few pictures where it actually has a purple glow is the closest to what it actually looks like, though the picture hides the blotches pretty well. It's not quite as cool as the real thing, but you'll love it if you have it, even if it takes a little while.
-
Now that would be pretty cool. I don't know if they actually do make purple LEDs (you think they would), but it'd be pretty cool to see. The blade right now is pretty nice, but I wouldn't mind having some real purple in it.

yes that would be absolutely cool....but this is a home-made emprovement....about the "normal" saber......I'm going to pay 150€ (a lot of money in dollars :D ) to have a fx lightsaber, so, if it's not perfect, I'm waiting till MR new releases to have a new one.
pretty good purple vs. outstanding blue or green (obiwan saber or quin-gon saber or what else ;) )....yes I'm waiting :D
(for that time I hope a anakin's lightsaber would be in my hands!)
-
I actually paid more than 150€ (if converted to dollars) for my Mace, but I love having it, though I hate the hole in my bank account from it. I don't think they'll really fix the Mace to make it more purple, so this might be as good as it gets from MR.
-
hey guys, I'm new here.
I ordered a Mace off of FAO too....
Purple LEDs do exist, but as I understand it they are somewhat harder to produce than the standard colors, and quite more expensive...
http://stores.ebay.com/Chi-Wing-LED-product-shop
Look at this guys Ebay page...
100 Super bright Blue LEDs are $30, 50 Purple LEDs are $65.
I think cost was a factor more than anything in choosing the layout that MR did. However, I have a hard time believing that they couldn't figure out a better solution....I mean, clear LEDs and purple glass paint would've worked too...
-
if the question is the price...then MR could sell the saber for 140/150$ but with real purple leds....what are 20/30$ for pure realism? :D
-
It's actually 500 of the ultraviolets for $65, so it'd be about $8 for 64 LEDs (I think there are 64 in a saber blade). The ultraviolets actually say they're purple in the listing, and there's a picture that could be construed as purple, but I'm not entirely convinced you could use these LEDs in a saber, unless you wanted to make a black light (which would be cool, but not quite a lightsaber).
-
If only I had the techno-savvy know-how, I'd make my own saber too. But alas, until then, I'll just keep buying them from MR...
And apparently, purple LEDs do exist, but they can get kinda pricey. Here's a site that compares a whole bunch of em: http://ledmuseum.home.att.net/ledvio.htm Some of these actually seem to be solid purples, though also very close to the UV range, so it leaves some hope for modding the Mace.

500 eh? Haha, please excuse my dyslexia.
-
Dont worry about it dyslexia rules KO.
I think the Windu blade looks just fine. Nice white core glow with a kinda purple light eminating from it.
-
actually, 64 UV lights would make one AWESOME FX blade! :)
I would LOVE to see something like that!
Hmmmm..... I gots me an idea.... 8)
-
In pictures, you see a nice white core glow, but you can definitely see the blotchiness from the red and blue mixing together. Otherwise, it's a cool purple. Not very purple, but still cool.
-
not very purple? not for me then ^^...I'm waiting the next generation....they will do it again...I'm sure :D
-
It would be great for everyone else, but I'm kinda hoping they don't. Then it'll be like with the Luke ROTJ all over again.
-
oh I can wait...2006? 2007? that's fine for me...the most important thing is that they will do another mace's saber...and with real purple blade this time....
-
yeah, the blade in one of those pictures looks a bit... blue.. ???
-
Yeah, that's a wierd thing the Mace does with a camera. It's clearly purple, but it comes out blue in a picture. I changed the camera settings for the one after the blue picture, and it came out purple. I even did a movie at night, and it came out blue even though the room was definitely lit up purply. So it's all in how the camera sees it.
-
perhaps your camera doesn't like your fx saber :D
-
So is the new shipment coming from MR (The Windu model) gonnae be different, i.e smaller, better core glow?
-
Nope, exact same model, no changes at all.
-
so BD, have you got your Mace, what do you think of it......... mine should be here in the next few days but i hope it comes today!!!!!
did i hear you say Amy was going to send you 2 sabers, free of charge........... if so, you are one lucky **** :D
-
I just can't stop looking at those pics. They are too cool! One question though, is the mace saber really that purple? Or is it less? More? Either way I will love mine pretty much no matter what. But please say it is at least that cool of a purple and not white like many other pics show it to be. I said it before and I'll say it again, Thumbs way, way up to you Phineas on those pics. Best....Pics.....ever! ;D
-
Shlick it has to be bright no matter what the pictures look like, i mean LEDs are very very bright no matter what the color just penetrating the white polycarbonete blade is what makes the real color. And since they mix the red and blue it cant be as bright as Anakins/Vaders etc. but LEDs man, still bright, still beautiful.
-
The saber blade actually is purple, and the white core glow only shows up when you take a picture of it.

thank god we mentioned this before i ordered my Anakin... otherwise i would have been extremely disappointed.
-
Windu will always be the greatest in my mind, god hes a badass jedi
-
Huh, watching the video (of the wall hits) makes me think the clash sounds on that are identical to my Anakin ROTS. I thought these were supposed to unique to each characters' real sounds straight from the movie?
-
Can anyone with the mace saber put up a video strictly showing off the new clash sounds, because in the other vids, you can't really hear it.
-
Pictures 1 and 2 are kind of misleading because the actual blade does not have a white core and in those pictures, it had kind of a shade of blue.
-
I don't know what you're talking about, I pray my saber looks like the one in pic 2, those have been the most accurate pics I have ever seen, and believe me, I have researched this. Phin has the best pics on the Internet.
-
About the clash sounds, I think they're unique in the sense that Jedi have certain sounds and Sith have certain sounds. The video I put up has them (I guess you have to crank up the volume a bit to hear them), but I'll look into getting a sound recording of the saber.
The first couple pics are misleading, but I put them up since that's how it automatically shows up on my camera. I thought I saw some similar pics online before that were blue, and now you have some more. :) Just look at the fourth and fifth ones for what the saber really looks like. And Phineas may have the best pics on the net, but these are my (not as great) pics, so let's please keep the distinction between the two. 8)
-
Yeah I already saw your vid, but i just couldn't make out the clash sounds over the wall and humming. If you could sound record the clash sounds only, that would be great.
-
ive read in bigdogs review that the idle hum is the lowest sound of all the saber's audio. next is the clash and swing, and then the power up/power down is the loudest.
-
Somebody needs to get videos up like the ones with the anakin and vader sabers, i want to get a better look at it in action.
-
Still wanna see some really good Windu saber footage.
-
yeah i started a thread in the main questions/comments page, i hope somebody comes and relieves us of our tention.
-
Yeah I'm really surprised we aint seen any yet.
-
I'll leave the movie making to the big guns, or dogs ;), that have lots of room to swing things around (and a camera that doesn't make the blade look blue), but I got a sound file of the 4 clashes with a couple repeats, as well as the power up and down sounds. You can also make out a swinging sound near the end of the clip.

-
Wow thats awsome skizz, that sounds really nice haha i love it ;D
-
Excellent sound file skizz. Now give us some cool videos someone, Bigdog?
-
wow...the mace's are very different from the other saber's sounds.....
It seems also that the idle sound is a bit "metallic", giving more uniqueness to this saber....
(<---- WOOOHOOOHHHH I'M A F***** JEDI NOW :D)
-
Yeah the sound of the mace sounds better than i expected, as exclaimed by bigdog himself ;D
-
YES!! That is what I have been looking for, the clash sounds of the Mace saber. Very cool and unique, I really wanted to hear the one that sounded like a laser blast deflect. I think I caught it in there. Again, thanks big time for the sounds.
-
a little off topic, but speaking of laser sound effects, can anyone tell me if the Anakin ROTS FX has that sound? i know the Luke ROTJ has a real nice one...
-
I only played with the Anakin once, but I'm pretty sure it has the same clash sounds as the Mace. I remember being all amazed when I heard a laser deflection clash. Maybe someone with an Anakin can confirm or deny this, but I'm pretty sure about it.
-
I heard each saber has its on personal clash, swing, etc. sounds recorded from the movies when the characters are using their sabers. Im i wrong?
-

"Authentic lightsaber sound effects digitally recorded from the movie."
So obviously it would be a personal clash from the actual characters themselves because who else would use their sabers? SPAM!
-
I knew it. thats what i thought, they defiently wouldnt make even two sabers have the same sounds it jsut wouldnt be a true fx "replica" of that character's saber.
-
Hey great pics - the more photos and footage I see of this saber the more I anticipate the release of mine. Should be here within a week now - fingers crossed!

The "metalicness" is not really there on the anakin and the twirl sounds are diffrent
