Thought I'd share the process a bit of some of the commissioned stuff I'm currently working on.

This is done for someone who wanted to be done up as comic book hero Blade.

As always... I try to get some photo refrences of the client so that I can see proportions and other details pertaining to the subject...

Here I've taken a 3/4 shot and a side profile picture.

Next I flesh out a rough image for the posing of the character...

Normally I do the character in the nude so that I can understand the anatomy and proportions I'm looking for...
You'll notice the head is different, as I didn't get the head shots for reference at this point.

Next, after using refrences from the Blade Trilogy Movies and the TV series, I added the costume on top of the body (plus at this point I had the pictures to change my design of the head)...

The drawing gets the treatment of shadows and rendering (with pencil)...

Finally after I do that step, I proceed to coloring the image in Photoshop...
Trying to incorporate Vampire glyphs around the border of the frame he is popping out of.

There you go.... an example of the process I go through as I do a commissioned piece of work (in this case a non SW job, fun to do regardless of the subject matter.... though of course I always like the Star Wars jobs better ;)

More are being done as we speak, and I'll provide more for you guys to check out as they are progressing as well.

Here's a new one  I completed (again a non SW commissioned piece)...

This guy is a huge Tennessee Titans' Eddie George and Spider-Man's Venom fan.... so this is what I did for him...

http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt182/JediYarNala/Venom%20Quan/Quansmall.jpg[/img]]

This was my first take on the piece... (notice the generic face... wasn't provided the photo reference yet)
http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt182/JediYarNala/Venom%20Quan/VenomQuanFirstOutlinesmall.jpg[/img]]

Wasn't fond of the pose, though I like the idea of having the Venom symbiote engulfing half of him...(while the other half is still not affected so we could see who it is). I took a second stab at it and liked the pose better.

Had him on a large web, sort of like Todd McFarlane's treatment of the cover of Spider-Man #1 and #13.... here is the rough of how I did it....
http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt182/JediYarNala/Venom%20Quan/WebRoughsmall.jpg[/img]]

And finally,....when colors are added and it's all put together...

That is amazing. Really. Insanely amazing.
I'm just a guy with a lightsaber ... I didn't ask for any of this power.

Been busy as of late with non Star Wars commissioned pieces.... but I'll post them as they come... hoping at some point to snag some Star Wars commissioned work...

Thanks for sharing these, Jedi Yar Nala - you[re very gifted!

I particularly like the Gulliver's Travels illustrations and generally how you've got some good variety in the postures and body types. And the way you integrate people into illustrations - i wouldn't be surprised if you get some requests for sigs  ;)

Look forward to seeing more...

Thanks PelPix...

I did a few commercials when I worked at an animation studio in Chicago, which included work on Trix and Lucky Charms.

You can see my demo reel at:
http://a-jedi-chiming-in.blogspot.com/

Fun stuff, but you have to keep the characters to model, or else the scene won't be approved to get the next one.  ;P
