Real lightsabers? - REVIEW-
« on: December 05, 2005, 01:12:49 PM »
Hello everyone.

I bought two lightsabers.
The Anakin ROTS and the Vader ESB.

I ordered them at The Saber Vault.
You can follow your shipment on the internet, so I did.
I saw that my packache arrived on the 26th. so I thought, YES TOMORROW.

NOT --- It was a day after that. (That has to be illegal, hurting someone like that)
It was in the evening of the 28th at seven when my package came.
My neighbors will remember.
It was very good protected, and they wrote GIFT on the packache so I did not get extra tax on the border.

When I opened the boxes I was in heaven.

They are a lot differend than the ones I held in my hand last summer.
They are a lot heavier now than they were before.
The hilts are so, and I really mean SOOOOO beautyfull.
They feel very good in my hand, like I was born with them.

If my sabers ever break, I'll take the tubes out, so I have real lightsabers, only I cannot ignite them.

What MR did, is not good for their business, because nobody will buy the very expensive hilt replica's when they felt the new almost fully metal hilts.
The only plastic parts on the Ani. now, are the two buttons and the controlebox.
The rabbit ears are metal now and the ring around the hilt where the controlbox is attached is metal.

One minus thing on the Vader saber is the black ring in the middle where the controlbox is attached. It can be moved a little bit.
If you point the saber to the sealing, you can turn it a half a millimeter sideways and up and down, maybe a little less even, but it is not clued,... thats for sure.
At least not MY Vader saber.
I don't know if it's supposed to be like this.

Real lightsabers I say?

I put my new Duracell Ultra M3 batteries in my very new lightsabers,... I turn on the switch and,...

It was not what I expected.
I was very disappointed.

If you look at the pictures that many people have send in, it looks almost like the movies.
If you see how bright the blades are there,... well, its not even a third of that - even in complete darkness.
If they would be as in those pictures and SW. movies you would close your eyes before you ignite the blade to make sure it wont hurt your eyes.
Not that you want eyedamage, but the blades have to be much and much brighter to be like the lightsabers as in Star Wars.
- I know that most camera's will burn the light in the picture, I do a lot of  night photography myself, but when you see them a lot you secretly hope they will almost be like that.

Than the sounds.

Some people even said that it's to loud. Have they seen the movies?
The sounds must be twice as loud as they are now, will they be comparable with the sabers in the movies.
The clashsounds even louder, because that's the way it works in the movies too.
I know, I wont make any friends by saying this, but it is my impression of how I experience the sabers.
I hope the gen. 4 sabers are much brighter and much louder than they are now.
I don't care if the batteries are empty in 30 minutes, if the experience is real, it is worth the money.

This has been discussed here before but here it is again...

Hello everyone...
Okay let's try and make this as simple as possible.
First the effect only happens in the right surrounding light
conditions.
In just the same way the iris of your eye expands and
contracts with the amount of light, so does the apeture
of a camera.
Because the digital cameras of today are self focusing and
use automatic measuring of light they are adjusting to
the surrounding light.
Now because the light sabers are the brightest point in the
picture but there is still surrounding light to focus on.

The bright emmision of the LEDs is acting as the brightest
point of contrast in the image. And as the image is translated
through RGB filters, the effect is much like the "red eye" effect
and because the glow is darker than the rod it's self, the camera
actually makes a mistake by intensifying this, which gives the
glowing inner core look.
and the light registering for the red blade is registering the glow
at a higher level of intensity that the camers "autoadjusts" to
the next level of brightness which gives the orangeyellow core
with a red glow, same for the lighter blue with a darker blue glow.

I know that with most Digital cameras and the right
background "sunset" lighting this works well, with no
flash being used of course and have your subjects
stand in front of the sunset so they are "Backlit"

anymore indepth than that and you want to look it
up to reference and experiment yourself but this gives
you the basic understanding of why the core is bright.

And by the way...we are working on brighter "cored" blades
so hope is not lost ;)

First off, the hilts in the Force FX sabers are nowhere close to being on level with the LE's and EE's offered by Master Replicas.  Collectors who seek to own something of the highest quality with the utmost attention-to-detail - Something that could actually be seen in the movies - will always have a longing for the special hilt-only versions.
Secondly, the quality of light that you find so disappointing can likely be attributed to a number of things, such as the intensity of the ambient light you are in (Turn the lights out and get in the darkness), or even the strength/quality of the batteries you are using (Try the Maximum power versions of Duracell or Energizer.)
Lastly, I have to say that these items are like many of the best things in life...They grow on you.  Give it some time and see what you think then.

These FFX sabers are getting better and better with every generation.
I'm able to see the sabers for the advancements made in them because I bought the EL versions when they first came out, now those were dissapointing...but, very cool, nonetheless!  Now with the LED versions, they are Brighter and have the ignite/deactivate effect.
All I can say, is once you go outside on a dark night and ignite one of your sabers...you will feel the POWER that these magnificent weapons hold...hee ;)

May The Force FX Be With You!

Greetings my friends.

I agree, they are the most beautyfull sabers on the planet.
I wrote this to make sure people wont expect more than what they get.
Many people here go nuts when they see them.
The magic of holding those sabers in their hands.
I let them experience the lighteffect by themselves. That must be the first time they see it..
You must see their reaction when they ignite them.

That is good material for filming.

you right ... just an example ... it's impossible for my mobile phone to do a "real" idea of how it's bright the blade
and one seeing my shots says WOW!! later may be disappointed ... just look at these one (not manipulated) image:

[note: my wife's reaction when I said "hey, only for 160$!!!!"]
I also want a saber like this one  :-\
meanwhile I'm very happy to own the best available lightsaber in this side of the galaxy ...

Very wise Kit Fisto.

I see the amount of lightsabers you have.
I also see that you have two Vader sabers,... Oh yeah, I have your incredible movies.
Tell me The ring in the middle with the controlbox of your Vader sabers, can you slightly move it a tiny bit. or are they rock solid.
As you can read, mine is movable.

Maybe I can fasten it with the screw that goes true the controlbox or something.
The rest of my Vader saber is perfect, so I don't really want to send it back to America and wait a few more weeks again.

Greetings from Holland.

Does someone know, if the new Obi-Wan ROTS saber have a brighter blade too?
I know the sounds will be much louder.

Anyone????

I have to say that, now I have them a while, I like them more and more.
But I know, I will replace them with the new ones If the light is brighter and the sounds much louder.
I play a lot with them and I have to say that,... I can only play with one at the time. Yes,... both these sabers have  beautyfull hilts, but a Jedi has enough with one beautyfull bright and loud saber, and the Obi-Wan has beautyfull details,... will be louder so they say,... possibly brighter, but I don't know for sure.
Yes, you can duel with two sabers but you scratch the blades too.
Maybe I'm happier with only one? (I don't have to decide which one to pick up)
When my son was little, he had one car. He was playing the hole day with it. Than we gave him more of those. From that day on, he only picked his cars up and lay them somewhere else. He didn't knew how to play with so many cars anymore.
I kinda feel the same right now, hahaha.

Thank YOU so much for your reply.

You will love it.
The hilt is awesome. (If you buy a new one)
The new hilt is a bit heavy for fast twirling do,... or maybe it has something to do with the shape of the hilt.
I twirlled a lot with the Hasbro's before.
I think the Obi-Wan will be easier to twirl with.
Let us know when you have it.

I understand what you mean that the lights dont seem bright like in the film and all that
The way I look at it though is these lightsabers are great and they are improving as the years go by
and they are so close to the real thing
back when I was younger lightsaber toys were nothing like they are today you wouldnt have thought they would have brought a replica like this out with realistic sounds and realistic ignite/deactivate effects
I always wished lightsabers were real I still do and now I have a force fx its like Im holding a real hilt and theres a light coming out of it and because of my over active imagination its like a real lightsaber to me and I love it
I just cant wait to get another one so my imagination can take things further as I duel with my friends
