Translucent Acrylic source?
« on: April 13, 2021, 11:56:15 AM »
So, YAY I found a new 2020 300LEDs/M strip [link] that has amazing resolution and brightness.

I bought them for accents, but just can't stop myself from making them into a blade.

Video on TikTok

Having experimented with a number of diameters (standard and metric) I found  1/4" ID x 1/2" OD x 1/8"wall (just over 3MM wall thickness) to be a perfect thin blade but super strong (maybe even stronger than 1" thick wall?). The only issue is diffusion as the clear just doesn't cut it and even sanding the outside really isn't doing the job.

Does anyone know a source for translucent Polycarbonate Rigid Round Tube?

Those are standard sizes, what works really well for the 2020 LEDs is a 1/4" ID with a 1/2" OD (1/8" wall thickness), I also found a 7mm straw fits in the 1/4" well and acts as very good diffusion.

Anywho,
I have not been able to find 1/2" in translucent

I did find 12mmOD 8mm ID in translucent. ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001255878271.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.78304c4diP3Uot ) Slightly thinner wall and only available in 18" lengths.

Makes for a long dagger or super short sword, but looks really nice lit up.
