Here's a tip:
Make sure your ceilings are high enough for you to swirl your saber!! (DUH!!)
I was swirling my saber yesterday and i hit the sealing a couple of times and of course was only checking if the saber was OK.
A few hours later the "female parental unit" came home and started yelling at me and i didn't know what she was talking about, until she showed me.
I now have a couple of one inch dents and holes in our Drywall ceiling.

That's funny. When I was a kid I would always get yelled at hitting the walls! ;D
-
That's bad...
-
hehehe poor DutchVader lol

Man that happened to me last week when I was just fooling around with my Luke ESB. The ceiling had no drywall though, and the blade just smashed into the studs. I was sure I must have broken something, but all appears to be fine. These things really are pretty durable.
-
Gladly, my house is very tall and I swing it in the living room and the ceiling is about 15-25 high
-
This happened to me but luckily nothing happened to the sealing ;D

I always have to practive my spins on my living room cause the ceiling is high, too bad I can't have privacy cause my room's ceiling is low.
-
Did something similar the day i got mine:
Stood in the center of my room, admiring the beauty of MR greatness!
A few gentle swings back and forth, a lil spin, then a faster spin...and then......a shower of glass, all over my head.
Had just connected the end of my saber with my light fitting, smashed the casing, and the bulb.
Oops :D
-
LOL, I know the feeling man.
That's why I had to get the ceiling light with the durable dome cuz I shatter lightbulbs soooo many times. Bleh, I still get hurt from the small glass that I missed when I cleaned up. Heh, actually I remember one time at school when I was practising with a broomstick-made lightsaber. I spun it so fast that it zipped out of my hand and broke one of the classroom windows on the ground floor.
-
broke a window,
wow be careful man, you sound like a bit of a liability ;)
-
lol, a common experience .... my ceiling is solid concrete and is low (two meters because my wife putted "my gadget room" on the second stage) ... anyway every time I take a sabre from the "handsome stand" I repeat myself "be careful...be careful...not this spin...be..." and SPAM! another clash of Vader onto the ceiling, I wonder really why the end cap is again firmly in his place lol ;D
-
I did a similar thing a few years back with my habro Vader saber. I've got quite a low ceiling in my room with a very rough paint texture, and there I was happily spinning and twirling when all of a sudden... CRUNCH. I managed to graze the tip of my saber quite badly into the ceiling leaving a good two inches of red plastic scuffed across the top of my room.
Not a mistake I intend to repeat with my FX sabers!
-
cool !!! you remember me I have again a "vintage" hasbro green luke sabre (bought ten years ago I think .... ) hey it's again working!!!!
-
lol, looks like we'll be labeled as menaces to society if we keep breaking things with our lightsabers. ;D
-
sure, after SuperMario and GTA:San Andreas (and internet in general) the next super-violent game will be saber-spinning lol
-
hahaha nice..funny thing is that u didnt even notice the ceiling damage just if ur saber was damaged :p
DT

hey ... thats' right ... I need to take a look at the ceiling ... :D
-
I can always tell my dueling sabers from the nons by checking the tip for plaster. :D
-
Hahah..
I'm lucky I haven't broken anything yet. By my ceilings downstairs are too small, and there's no room to swing them upstairs either..
-
Question to you guys.
Has anyone ever got hit on the head with the hilt of a lightsaber?
Count me as 1 lol....Never ever swing your lighsaber close to a wall...You might accidently hit the wall with the blade and it bounces off and hits you hilt first in the face...Boy that hurt...
-
Once when I was in my basement watching Episode III I suddenly decided it would be a good idea to start acting out all the lightsaber action in the movie. Well when I was acting out the part where Anakin & Obi-Wan were killing the driods in the elevator. While I was swinging away I forgot how low the basement ceiling is. So I was swinging my FX when all of a sudden SMASH! I smashed a light bulb! Tiny shards of glass rained upon me. I spent about 10 min picking up the glass. I'm never doing that again. ;)
-
You watch SW in your basement too, huh?
:'( my long lost....brother! Heh..
-
Lol I used to do that too, but it was in my room and not the basement.
-
The basement is kind of like my own private batcave no one bothers me down there.
