Mongrel
« on: July 05, 2008, 01:50:34 PM »
This is my newest.  I finished it yesterday... "finished", of course, meaning, "stopped for now, and will probably change it later"

Link to full album:
http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn260/eastern57/MONGREL/?start=all

It's named "Mongrel" because it comes from so many different pieces, that I can't really say it's any one type... like a mutt...

Start:

Finish:

The fonts that I have on there are:
Novestar
Heirloom
Blackstar
Steampunk
Ancient Saber
Satori Zen

click

I think they're very fitting.
Thanks for looking!

It is.  It's a BH#1 and a cannibalized emitter.

I originally built it to sell on ebay... but haven't actually decided on that yet...

And thanks for the compliments!

How long is the hilt? What type of LED are you running? And those are those 18650s or 14500s?

oh sorry... I always forget to put in info...

Lux V @ 1A (the picture is a K2, I changed it after the pic)

CF v2.63  sensitivity turned way down, lc=75, hs=50, ls=3

2x 18650s (Ultrafire/Li-Ion)

1x 4.8mm hb LED under bubbles

just shy of 13.5"

Brushed w/ medium olive oil and baked for 35 minutes @ 550 degrees (seriously)

I have been wondering: if you use li-ion batteries that have internal pcb, can you run them in series? I thought the pcb might cut the current if the voltage exceeded the 4.25 max and thus not allow it unless it was designed for 8.4-7.2 volts... but I really don't know, and is seems to be working for you...

I have a saber that is almost overstuffed with 6AA nimh batteries in it and was looking for a way to use 2 18650s and thought I needed to find a pcb designed for end-to-end series, but could only find side-by-side

Thanks!

Woah, that's a pretty stylish saber. The way you stained it was really creative! It looks like it could be an Old Republic/ancient lightsaber type thing. lol

What kind of clamp is that?

Yes, these have the internal PCB, and they work fine in series.  Most Li-Ion vendors state whether or not they are "protected".  The PCB prevents memory effects, but you don't have to worry about that with protected cells.

Thank you ;)  it's is a graflex replica.

Pretty cool. A little long for my personal tastes, but that finish is pretty awesome. That Zen font is super creepy.

Did you apply a sealant?

I made the steampunk font - I can send it to you if you want.

No sealant... not yet, at least.  I'll probably epoxy clear coat it when I get it where I like it...
