Title: How would you rate Clone Wars?
Post by: Ki-Adi on March 07, 2006, 07:58:14 AM
I thought the Clone Wars series was amazing. I wished they had made more. I thought the second volume was better then the first. Even though Ki-Adi has a bigger part in Volume 1. I gave Clone Wars a 7.

I really love the Clone Wars animation. Give 'em an 8.
I agree, Ki-Adi, i wish they had made more too.
I believe the first one was originally made as series of shorts, and the second was made as a feature length animation, and that's why the second one seems to 'gel' better.

Ya. I liked the chase between Shaak Ti and Grievous. haha That was awesome. It is true it leads right into ROTS. I watched all of them right before I saw ROTS. My sister saw it first day and I saw it like 3 days later. After seeing ROTS I got into Star Wars way more. I mean I loved star wars before and I like it more then anyone in my family but the only reason my sister saw it first day was because she thinks hayden is so hot. I started researching star wars so much more after that. I now collect FX's and books, comics, posters, like everything. Clone wars was awesome, the first TV series is going to be CGI and all about the clone wars. It will be exciting. I can't wait to see Grievous fighting Ki-Adi in CGI haha. I thought that was the best part. Ki-Adi was the only Jedi would held his ground, or at least the longest. Everyone else was either injured or dead except Ki-Adi. But then the Clones come save him. Ironic eh? They save him only to kill him later. hahaha

I liked clone wars just because it filled in that gap between the 2 movies, i mean i KNOW we all wanted to know what happened during the clone wars and i am excited to see this tv series coming out in a few years

I really like it but thought it would have been better if it was CG animated, which is why I'm looking foward tothe next Clone Wars series ;)

Well so far this mini series has gotten some high votes from users here. Lowest is 7. I loved the Ki-Adi part. Also in coursant when Shaak Ti is running away from Grievous. It was so awesome. Jumping from building to building.

9. Way cool for a cartoon. Some of the voices bothered me a bit, but overall I found it pretty entertaining.  :)

i love the look of clone wars its well cool.  the volume 2 is much better than vol 1.  the space battles are short but stunning.  i really like how it ties in with ROTS.

Really Aayla? I loved Ki-Adi's voice in the Clone Wars mini series. I hope they use that voice in the new CGI Clone wars TV Series.

Ya they weren't even done by the actors, same with the EP 3 video game. Everyone was imitated.
Title: Re: How would you rate Clone Wars?
Post by: jack3auer on March 09, 2006, 12:37:49 AM
i like the voices, you could tell they werenot the original actors, but i think they did an ok approximation, if they had been done by the real actors, perhaps it would not have felt right in that the characters are not exact look-alikes but its sort of another take on them.  general grievous voice was weird without all the coughing

Both were made by cartoon network

I believe that they used the same voice actors for the game as the cartoon

Clone Wars were cool, my favourite character in the series is Assaj Ventress, the part I enjoyed most was the fight between Anakin & Ventress.

By the way, what's that "CGI" thing supposed to mean? Computer Generated something?
What is it!?  ???
Title: Re: How would you rate Clone Wars?
Post by: Timmy-Wan Kenobi on March 09, 2006, 03:00:58 PM
Yeah, Assaj Ventress rocked. It would have been great to have seen her in the PT somewhere. It would have been an opportunity to exploit the 'two sabers at once' technique. It was fantastic when Ani picked up two sabers in AOTC, but it lasted all of ten seconds.

Ani got some cool tatoos too. Who's going to first to get that movie accurate replica?

I think GCI is Computer Generated Imaging. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yup you are right tim, computer generated images. Cool but taking over big time. I like Assaj Ventress she was an awesome dark jedi.
Title: Re: How would you rate Clone Wars?
Post by: registrau on March 09, 2006, 03:44:23 PM
Yup, it would have been awesome to see Assaj in the PT.

I miss dual saber users in the movies. It's funny that they even introduced Darth Maul with his "staff saber", and not even one character who dual wields. (Apart from the 7 seconds sequence of Anakin vs Tyranus in AOTC).

I will certainly try not to.  Funny story, last night I was getting ready to lie down and I popped in Volume 2.  My wife's like, "AGAIN!!  Didyou just watch these?"  All's I had was "Yeah."  While shrugging my shoulders.  She thinks I'm nuts.  But she liked them too.  She really did.

They were cool, but I liked the Clone Wars comic books better.  Check em out if you need more Clone Wars info.  I have most of the collected editions, and they were really good.  Durge was even badder in the comic books.  They even had a Jedi in one of them Adi Gallia called Master Bater.  True.
EDIT- No sorry, it was Master Bayts.  Grievous kills him on Boz Pity.  It was Clone Wars Volume seven.

I just watched Clone Wars Vol.1 and I really loved it. I'm probably going to watch this several times, because it had such a good music, awesome cartoon style and lots of action. I loved Mace Windu in this Vol.1, I think he was awesome! I would have liked to see more Ki-Adi-Mundi, Shaak Ti and Aayla Secura, but gladly there was something in the end. Amazing to say atleast and I love it! Rated 9 out of 10.  ;)

Yeah you're right about that Han, just watched Clone Wars Vol.2 and it was even greater. It was awesome to see many of the gaps between Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith, like how Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was captured by General Grievous. What I really loved in this Clone Wars was the simple cartoon style and attitude of the show. I would rate Clone Wars Vol.2 9+  ;)

After watching all the series of Clone Wars excluding comic, I think it is a great cartoon. I think they should make more episodes. Although Clone Wars doesn't have a lot of dialogue and more action, but it does show events between Episode II and III in an animation way. I wish they could have Obi-Wan doing more action sequences in the animation.

Man, I hate to be the one making the most disappointed comments... Sorry!

Well, I think the Clone Wars was designed primarily for younger audience than SW movies. The stories are pretty straightforward, linear and moving on at fast-forwarded pace. Graphics are more "functional" than pretty and voice acting minimal. Oh, and those several miles long force jumps by Windu...? What were they thinking? (shakes head)

I couldn´t help wondering what, for example, Don Bluth´s animation studios had created if they had a SW license... Still, the boxcover says the CW is Star Wars, so I couldn´t cast anything less than six points. And considering the general level of Expanded Universe, I suppose CW isn´t the worst possible outcome either.

Ah-Look at Droids and Ewoks cartoons for one.Vast improvment.Loved the storyline, and animation, and dialogue. My favorite is when Grevious has Shaak Ti at the elevator.Grevious says your life is at an end. Then Shaak Ti force ties Grevious' cape on the bar then ding! He's off :D

I gave the CW Cartoon Series a 9... I thought it was cool that my son and I could sit down and watch it together, for the 1st 10 minutes of Volume I and then he was up and running around again. I'm looking forward to the 3D Version that's coming out (per the latest SW Insider Mag).

I gave it an 8, however if it was possible I would give it an 8 1/2. The voice acting was not good in a few parts. I mean for a lot of characters we know they didn't give them voices. I mean who doesn't wanna know the voices of some characters? Plus I didn't like the romance scene in Clone Wars Vol. 2 with Anakin & Padme. I mean it was the acting there kinda reminded me of a boring soap opera.

Otherwise, the Clone Wars cartoon was, in my opinion, the best Star Wars cartoon ever made.  ;D

Wow....where was this poll hiding. It must have been put up when I was away on some damned fool mission! ;) I am not much for caroons, but I found this to be a quint-essential piece necessary to bridge the Clone Wars into the saga. Back in '77, who would have thought that Ben's recounting of the Clone Wars would have been viewed by us as a cartoon, not as a film. This is the most important event during the time of the Republic, and it's a cartoon. It was a creative approach, I'll give Lucas that. Just not typical of an important theme. Nevertheless, I gave it a 9. It demonstrates to us the awesome power the Jedi have in the Force, stays true to the Star Wars theme line of music painting the story for us, use of exotic planets and the crucial bonding of Anakin and Obi-Wan. The bondong of Obi-Wan and Anakin is key to the whole Saga and it goes to show that emotions overide rationality in desperate times. So with all this being said, as much as I would loved to have seen a film version, I could live with this. I gave it a 9.

Well i think this thread was originally for the clone wars cartoon, as opposed to the cgi. I would give the cartoon an 8 it's short and to the point and it's good to see the clone troopers in action as an awesome squad as well as the way in which it portrays the jedi (considering it's a cartoon) yeah it looks a bit like samurai jack but then its created by the same people, they get the characterisation right which is the main point.

The recent cgi version on the other hand makes my head hurt, even if it's aimed at kids it's still patronising, Anakins padawan is so annoying she's like a character out of the hills or something. She would never be a jedi especially if she constantly went against her masters like she seems to. And the film they made! Who watched the camp hutt character without wanting to hit something, utter rubbish that even my 11 year old nephew gets bored with.

I gave it an 8, I love the storyline but a lot of critics say the animation for some of the charectors is a "wooden" or "marionette"-looking & I tend to agree (especially when it comes to count Dooku or Palpatine). As for the clone troopers their armor looks great & the space battles are just as cool to look at, there's not a lot to criticize from an adult viewpoint, cause it is a show on Cartoon network...but overall it's a good show for any Star Wars fan.

Personally, I disliked the old Clone Wars Cartoon series highly....This is just my opinion guys :). The animation looked horrendous, the voice-acting was...sorely lacking, and the entire thing was unrealistic, the Jedi were nuts! Mace Windu destroyed like 5000 SBD's with one Force Push...look at Geonosis, I didn't see that happening.

The new Clone Wars has better voice-acting and the CG is nice, but still not quite a taker for me.

The current CG Clone Wars serious is atrocious, singular episodes which are often really boring (I know they are for kids, but still..lol) patronising and limited in action. But the Anakin Skywalker for the CG Clone Wars is a better version than Hayden Christiansen (IMO). Ashoka is annoying but it also allows for episodes to show other Padawans such as Bariss Offee.

Onto the cartoon-Loved it, love the animation and pretty much every episode. Particularly the introduction of Asajj Ventress and Mace Windu on Dantooine and pummelling Battle Droids with force powered fists! It's ending even tied into the ROTS (which shows someone in Lucas' circle liked it). It was still for kids but was still awesome, distinct animation was hard to get to grips with but if you watch the likes of Samurai Jack you'll learn to love the Genndy Tartakovsky style.

8 for Clone Wars original cartoon

4 for the Newer Clone Wars animation

Well if he'd unleashed a massive Force Wave in the Geonosis Arena it would have knocked over the 200 Jedi there as well...ok thats a bad rationalization because I agree that scene in the CW cartoon was just ridiculously OTT as was when he made the equally absurd Hulk-like mile long Force Jump in order to do the 'Mean Joe Greene' scene with the kid...maybe we could all agree Mace is 'baaaad'...but THAT episode was just too much...right up there with Starkiller pulling down a SD from orbit in crayzee excessiveness of Force use out of place with its film depictions.

At least the Animated series seems to have a more consistent balance with the films and I quite like it even if Ahsoka is rather annoying. 7/10

Season two is shaping up rather nicely. Tonight's episode was pretty good. I like the fact that there is a hour show instead of the normal 1/2 hour.

I think the Gendy Tartovsky (most likely misspelled his name) was fantastic.  Given the amount of time they had to have a finished product, I think they did a great job.  The style of animation was a bit different but grew on me and the characters were given more thought which I enjoyed.

The new 3D Cartoon is downright atrocious.  I've tried watching entire episodes time and again, thinking maybe I'm not giving it a chance, but every time I find myself waiting for something to actually happen.  It's all fluff with NO substance whatsoever.  And besides, why would they give Anakin of all the Jedi a Padawan, when they wouldn't even trust him to be a part of the council?  How does that make any sense?

Clone Wars 2D?  -Tops
Clone Wars 3D?  -Waste of time.

I can see the Padawan Ashoka just being a new character to explore other plotlines without Anakin or Obi Wan but also to possibly calm him down, as he is known for being a bit too headstrong.

I agree...its off to an excellent start. As much as I love all things Jedi it is nice to see some focus on the troopers , this is the clone wars afterall, and as such provides an opportunity to explore their character motivations and perhaps more fully explain why they later turn on the Jedi. I hope this season continues a renewed emphasis on the clones. As for these episodes the tension between Grievous and Ventress was particularly well done imo.

I really enjoy the show. I only just got caught up on it. I like the character Asoka but I don't ever remember any word about Anikin having a Padawan. But that more then likely just Hollywood taking liberties for the kiddies again. LOL. Well that little thing is not enought to keep me from watching it.

well, if we are talking about the Animated shorts.. I gotta give it a 10.. its great, filled in some plot holes and was generally starwars-ish

As for the new CG series.. Frankly I think its gotten a little to kid friendly, it gets a 3....We all know george has said starwars is a kids thing, but really it never was. Many of us have grown up with starwars and as we've matured so should the stories..and anakin BETTER kill asoka... Frankly I think Jar jar was less annoying

ahhh lol. I don't think he will kill here. But come on I think its great gets a 10 from me. When you think about it they might want to start something new with Anikin having a padawan. Just because they never said anything about him NOT having one doesn't mean he can't have one. And I think its great that its kid friendly. Its not to kid friendly though and thats what I like about it!

Animated 3 min shorts get a 10.

The Clone Wars series I give a 7.

Just got the DVDs for season one and two and they are surprisingly good. I thought it was going to be like the Clone Wars animated movie which was horrible in my opinion.
These shows are much better. The shining star in the show is the animation and graphics. The textures are great.

I just wish it was more 'supercool' and less 'afterschool'.

If there was a negative 5 rating I would absolutely rate it that.  The Clone Wars cartoon is worse than the prequels themselves.  The continuity, even held up between the prequels, is not consistent.  The council won't allow Anakin the rank of Jedi Master, and yet they'd trust him to have a padawan?  How in the world does that make any sense?  If that is the case, then what does the rank of Jedi Master even mean?  I tried to give it a chance, but every time I've sat through an episode they just take an element from the originals and ruin what made it so special to begin with.

For example, recently I saw an episode where the Jedi freeze themselves in carbonite to infiltrate an enemy camp so they could rescue someone.  While the concept is a nice nod to Empire, it completely kills the tension of what made Han being frozen meant in that film.  The whole scene meant something because we don't know if Han will survive the freeze and because of this we are worried he might die.  In the cartoon, it played out as though it was no big deal.

I know what people will say.  If you don't like it, don't watch, and that's fine.  If you enjoy the show, more power to you, but the Clone Wars is not Star Wars to me.  In theory, I'm all for new stories, films, and tv shows set in the galaxy far far away, but the poor execution of most of these efforts has been a major let down.

I'll be honest there have been some intersting episodes, the later seasons are supurbly better then the first, however when I hold it up to something like the young jedi knights, or New Jedi order.. well it doesnt hold a candle.... those books, not being written by lucas still manage to hold more of the starwars feel, without being immature and without being TO mature that a younger audience couldnt get into it...

The clone wars isnt bad per say... Just disappointing, they arn't giving their audience enough credit... either way though I suppose SOME starwars is better then none, as we all know the Fate of the jedi series is taking its sweet time!

they arn't giving their audience enough credit...

the audience is seven years old.    when it comes to ESB, GL wanted lightweight campy fare that little kids could watch over popcorn -- but kirshner&co gave him a dark sequal that little kids might find scary.   when a little kid watches ESB he might freak out watching han solo go into the carbon pit. BUT if he's seen clone wars,, then he can relax because he's seen it before.  YES it takes away from the drama of the moment, when it happens in ESB.. but only for the little ones who have already seen CW.

I think CW is a good way for little ones to cut their teeth on SW, because,  it's aimed at children and it doesn't take itself too seriously.   but anyone who is a Real Fan (tm) will be dissappointed, because, the show aims at an intelligence-level FAR below that of the film series (and doesn't take itself seriously enough).

--> its a double-edged sword.

I think its great, that my little kids have taken such an interest in ALL things 'star wars'.
but, yeah.    I have a hard time watching it, personally.

I think it's cool that there are some shows that are geared more towards a younger audience, but I have to disagree with you about Empire.  I think kids can handle watching the original films just fine, like those of us who were kids when they came out.  We all turned out to be healthy, happy, independent, and responsible adults.  I agree that there may be scary moments in the films, but nothing that was too intense for them to handle.  I think a lot of children's entertainment today is watered down and that kids are capable of handling more realistic issues about life and death.  Grim's fairy tales were very gruesome and dark and were meant to expose children at an early age to the harsh realities of life, and were written specifically with kids in mind.

There is no reason in the world that entertainment for youngsters can't still have the same consequences of death or threat to the heroes that would exist in real life.  This emotional connection with the characters is what gives the audience a sense of empathy for the fictional story that is being shown.  I find that much of what is out there, including Clone Wars, doesn't really have a sense of true danger, or give some sort of moral to their stories about why it is important to do the right thing.

Children are smarter than many give them credit for, and while it is up to parents to decide what is appropriate for their children to be exposed to, I see no harm in sharing films like Empire to them, as long as their child is taught the difference between films and reality.  Children play with toy guns and swords all the time, killing one another over and over.  But the ideas behind this is that they are working towards a child's understanding of certain values.  Fighting for what is right, defending their family and friends, fighting tyranny, etc.  Granted children will not be able to articulate these ideas, but unless your child is pretending to hack innocent people to death, I think parents have nothing to worry about.

Just my thoughts.  My response is not meant to be argumentative, but I see it differently.   :)

I'm looking at a "6"

Its not completely awful.  It tells a story of a war that was largely glossed over between EPII and EPIII

At least they don't pull Star Destroyers out of orbit with the FORCE

Yeah, I am leaning more towards an 8 on a scale of 1-10.
I think most of it is well written and very well made.
I love the Clones and how they bring individuality to them.
There are some of the shows that are a down right flop and
at times the story line is really pushing it as far as being able to fit
in with the Star Wars Universe. Really glad to have the Clone Wars!

I'd give season three 3 stars out of 5, I expected more secrets but, you can see Anakin and Ahsoka's relationship from Master and Student being more then just that. Lucas car run this show forever as long as the ratings hold strong.

I'm looking forward to season four and looking forward to season three on Blu-Ray

Ya but the key word in regards to what happens between AOTC and ROTS in WARS, the Clone WARS.

This show is fine for kids, but it water downs the impact of the clone war. Its like "anakin and his silly adventures with gungans."

Ya there are a few instances of great storylines, particularly when Anakin teeters and the edge of the darkside, but overall they have missed the point.

There should be battles, good ones. War is gritty, dark, intense. This is silly, light hearted, and ridiculous.

I've said it before here, but they would do themselves a favor to tell the story right. They need to do a series on Starz or HBO where they can literally "unleash" the saga and tell the story with all the grit and blood and intensity it deserves.

That sort of unleashed thing makes you wonder if luke had some sort of battle meditation when he fought vader in rotj.  Think about the odds the  rebellion faced and overcame.  Of course, battle meditation wasn't thought of at the time.  Just a thought i had... if anyone wants to discuss that, feel free to separate this into it's own thread mods.

I have watched the first 3 seasons and I am impressed.  It was slow going at first but about 6 or 7 episodes in I was hooked.
The one's that follow OB1 and A are petty well written.  Where as the one about Padama ( spelling wrong ) are more political and kinda boring.  The episodes about the knight sisters is the best .  Explains Ventress back story and even adds a new sith character in the process.  I would say anyone who hasn't watch clone wars should give it at least a try.

My vote was actually for the recent 5 season series. Gave it a 9, and would have got a 10 if not for (ahem) "imm-effing" Disney cutting the series and indeed the final season short (only 20 episodes?).

As for the micro-series, I bought Vol. 1 and 2 the day they released on DVD. 10 of course! Best animated series (though short) since Transformers G1.
