Master Jedye Presents...Custom Plo Koon's Concept Katar (UPDATED: 05-22-09)

Ever since I saw a concept drawing of Plo Koon's Concept saber, I wanted to make one.  Well, I did and now it's finished.
Here's what I used....two 1.5 sink tubes, two 1.25 90 degree tubes, one 1.25 sink tube, a brass kick plate (for a door) and a DPDT switch from Radio Shack.  From TCSS, a few sink tube adaters, two emitters, 2 Amber LUX III's.


First, I cut a "Jedi Star" ot of a brass plate using a dremel and LOTS OF PATIENCE.


Then I crafted all my sink tubes together, cutting them to fit, around difficult curves, screwing them down and using some Quik Steel to secure the bond.  Once the main hilt was secure, we powder coated it.


Next, had to tear it apart again...



And Let Darth Call work his magic with the wiring...



Here he is again...now he's having fun.


Ok...so we used a Joe Jedi sound card with a 1000mah buckpuck and about 40 feet of wire...running to a DPDT switch and a few accent leds.  And here's what we ended up with...










with the lights off, to show off the blades...












Sooo...that's about it.  I really like this saber.  It's strong but not very duelable.  This took a while to work ot so it's sort of a labor of love for me.  Thanks to Darth Call for the great wiring job.  Look for more collaborations between he and I!   ;)

WOW! That is Amazing.....It makes me think of a Lightsaber Version of the Predator's Arm Knives from Predator 2.

It is probably no exaggeration about the 40' of wire!!! This one took some time!!! nearly all day. Joe Jedi boards are a pain to start with then add another blade LED and 2 accent LEDs, ...well.

But Jedye made sure I had lots of room to work with in the hilts and left off most of the "bling" until the wire job could be finished.

The brass jedi symbol is really cool and even looks pretty good up close, .....Jedye is my new dremel guy from now on!!
The pommels are 2 Darth Maul pommels from MR!! gotta get back in there and light them up!!

Capt. Solo, ....the sound is loud, crisp and clean, ....the board sits spaced to the left, so movements are picked up easily and the sensor doesn;t over-react.

"Insane" was the first word that popped into my head when I saw this, but MasterKris took the word out of my mouth. I was wondering how it was supposed to be held (two hands?), until I saw the fantastic conceptual drawing. This is just brilliant. Like I wrote in a PM to Master Jedye, his designs are all so distinctive, yet not ostentatious. Imagination combined with flair and restraint. And kudos to Darth Call for figuring out and executing the wiring. Just adding a recharge port to a basic Hasbro schematic was a major challenge for me. I can't imagine the paths those 40" of wire take.

Thank you and I appreciate everyone's comments!  This was a fun build (most of the time... ;) )  I certainly strive for original sabers and that concept drawing was the only rendition I ever seen of such a saber.  A video is uploading to YouTube now but my comp is slow so it may not be posted until tomorrow.

Not to trample, Brother Adam's comment, but in my book (or holocron  :P), this makes for "Saber of the Month"! and the second most unique Saber after fellow Lord Call's "Gemini"! ;D
