Title: TeensySaber free font library
Post by: profezzorn on September 14, 2017, 04:48:08 PM
Hi, I'm currently trying to set up a default sd card download for teensysaber users.
Ideally, I'd like to have examples of plecter style fonts, NEC style fonts and some fonts that make use of the "looped swing" feature of the teensysaber board. I'm also interested in background music tracks. I'd be willing to pay for the rights to distribute the fonts, but it would have to be a one-time cost, not a per-download.

The fonts chosen can include readme files and links to where interested parties can find more fonts like it, so I'm hoping that people will see it as an opportunity to promote their fonts by giving away one for free.

Reply here or PM me if you're interested.

jbkuma won over some serious font artists a while ago to contribute to the open-source community. The fonts are AFAIK free to use (donations to the contributores are warmly welcome) and can be found under:
FX-SaberOS/soundfonts at master · Protonerd/FX-SaberOS · GitHub (https://github.com/Protonerd/FX-SaberOS/tree/master/soundfonts)

It's part of the FX-SaberOS Git, you will find readme files in the zip archive.

Currently the font artists mention the DIYino boards, but feel free to approach jbkuma to inquire if the guys can mention Teensy as well.

Interesting. Not becuase of the fonts themselves, but because I might implement support for the naming scheme used so that TeensySaber can play these fonts without any modifications. :)

Sounds great!!!

In fact the fonts are also superb, I still can't believe my luck that we got them free of charge as a gift.

I assume the naming scheme is documented somewhere?

I assume that the naming reflects still the PL naming scheme. All fonts area available for PL boards, best to take it as is. PL boards probably access the sound by name rather than copy order.

But for sake of simlicity I will probably make a folder with renamed files which are easy to copy+paste to SD/SPI_Flash on the DIYino boards.

No, they do not. Plecter sound font files are not named like that.

Greetings,

Actually, I created the fonts working with jbkuma exclusively for the FXOS.   At first it felt a bit weird seeing them possibly being used for another system; however, as I see that they are listed as free source I'm ok with others using them as long as credit is given. Additionally, I wouldn't mind a bit of free advertising for my soundfonts that are listed on saberfont.com under "Trinity Force Sabers".

I'm glad you all enjoy the fonts.

Thanks!

PS:  I have Plecter versions as well if there is interest. I did not add additional files however.

The names in Light/FX-SaberOS are somewhat irrelevant since they are called by the copy order instead. The files have an extended hum to help with the limitations of the sound hardware.  The names are indeed adapted from the PL fonts, the numbers in front are only to facilitate the copy order.  I typically us "ignite" and "extinguish" instead of "poweron" and "poweroff" and only switched conventions to make it consistent with other fonts and compatible with JakeSoft's font converter.

At any rate DarthPJs created the fonts, so they are his to do with as he pleases.  They sound great and anyone should be thrilled to use them.

The point of an open source project isn't to hold power to but to share ideas and improve upon them!

You speak from my heart and a great thumbs up to Darth PJs for his generosity to share his work with the oen source community, credit where credit is due, I will make sure to get the world out because these fonts are truly superb!

I just emailed another font to jbkuma for the Fx-OS.  It's the Vanilla Zombie font that I posted here on the forum for free.  You all can use it as well after jbkuma lists it.  The plecter and NEC formats are listed on this forum under the sound discussion topic on this forum.

I'm happy to help with format, fonts, etc. or anything else that is you all might need.

Thanks!
