K3GR1 WIP
« on: March 13, 2013, 10:48:11 PM »
I haven't done a WIP thread in a while but I am really excited about this K3GR1 so wanted to go ahead and share what I have done so far.

I decided to keep it simple and just polish the hilt and powder flat black (texture...my favorite powder) pieces here and there to break it up.

I forgot to powder coat the thumb screw but I will need to redo the neck ring anyway (got trash in it) so will do both at the same time tomorrow.

The switches are 12mm AV switches (blue and red) flush mounted and the recharge port is under them.

It will have a CF6 with CEx
batteries will be 2x18650s
LED will be R/rB/G tri-rebel

I am hopefully going to do the install this weekend...or at least start on it.

Here are the pics of the saber after polish and powder (again I have to redo the neck piece and the thumb screw).

It looks like Brimstone.  :D  I like the double 12mm AV placement.

Yeah I looked back at the different K3GRs a little while ago and spotted Brimstone as the closest looking to it (though it wasn't as shiny ;) ).

Geez that's purty. I need to get some powder coating equipment. The polish is so flawless too.

I imagine the internals are going to look typically MH fantastic as well.

Very nice!

The K3GR1 is based off of the Killer Penny, owned by Corbin (one of the original saber greats). Both are classic and magnificent sabers. Last time I checked, I couldn't find any good pictures of Killer Penny on the forum that were still working, but google searching Killer Penny will get you a picture of a shiny, copper, green bladed saber. K3GR1s were made by Acerocket, we call him Wat Tambor these days.

(sorry MH for threadjack)

Ahhh... History! (it was during the very first years of tcss and fx sabers as far as I remember)

Thats the original Killer Penny (from 07').. It has since gone through a rebuild an upgrade, maybe twice?? (and while I just cant actually remember who has her now).. She is still around... Somewhere

Id be certain Jango knows (leave it to the bounty hunters)

Beautiful contrast between the highly polished and textured black colors. A very elegant looking K3GR1.

I have to say MH that your polish and shine is the best I have seen. I think I can see my reflection in your pictures from here.  ;D I am going to have to learn how to get that mirror finish. I always seem to get a shine, but not like that.

The install is now done.  I am just going to post a couple of pics now and add more when I am completely finished later.

I ended up putting the CEx in the neck portion after boring it out a little.  This made for a much easier and cleaner install than how I originally had planned on doing it.

This may go up for auction or sale later on  I have to decide if I am buying it from the customer or selling it for him.

Great install, MH! I really like those AV switches, and the carbon fiber accents. And of course your mirror polishing is always hands down the best I've seen. With the RGB and CeX this K3GR1 will be a performer inside and out! This makes me wish my old K3GR1 "Advent" so much.
