[SOLVED] CFX v10 Switch Wiring Question
« on: August 13, 2021, 11:07:52 AM »
I see in the CFX V10 manual
Quote
We advise to have the activator and aux switches wired with a dedicated negative wire that returns
to the low power ground pad as depicted above. Make sure you twist / braid the activator, auxiliary
and negative (gnd) wires together to avoid the transformer & induction effect from the LED power
circuit.
However, the wiring diagram I am using shows the switch negative going to the board negative.

Question: For a neopixel build with the following components and options, should the switches be wired to the low power ground or to the board negative?
Activator Switch - momentary with LED ring where LED is desired to be left unlit at all times
Auxiliary Switch - momentary no LED
RICE port
No Recharge Port
11-pin Hilt Side PCB

What are the benefits/disadvantages of each option?

I'm not sure what your question is here. Wire the switch as directed. If you don't want to use the LED in the switch, just don't wire the LED connections.

Thanks for the reply jbkuma
I am good with the LED/no-LED part (i.e. it is not wired).

The diagram shows the negative legs of the switches going to the board negative but the manual says to wire the switch negatives to the low power ground (where the diagram has the LED negative going).
Since I am not using the LED, I wired the switch negatives together and have them attached to the board negative.

I am wondering if is should rewire my switches to go to board ground instead of board negative.  It then makes me wonder what's the difference?

Wire it to the board ground.

I find your arguments vague and unconvincing.

thanks!
any reason why (other than it being in the manual)?
Is the only reason the diagram uses the board negative to allow for the switch LED to go some place?

No. They’re basically the same thing. This mat diagrams are just more for clarity’s sake.
