Hey Everyone,
Got a question for you. I am slowly working on a backstory for my Jedi and I got to thinking about younglings. More specifically does anyone know the age a child would be taken to the Jedi Academy for training. I know if a Padawan is not chosen by a Knight at 13 he joins the Jedi Service Corps. But when would he specifically start his training at the academy. Thanks everyone.

I'd say when a child is ready for Pre K. then they would be ready to start training. My son has already started Aikido lesson going on 2yrs now and he's in kindergarten. Now is the perfect time. He's 5 ...

Yes "from a certain point of view" the Jedi Order as posited would be 'baby stealers' and it caused them some problems too...look at the "Baby Ludi" case as an example:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Baby_Ludi

That cost the Jedi Order a lot of public support...one can imagine that there might be plenty of parents who would resist giving over their children...maybe even an 'underground railroad' smuggling force-sensitive infants and their parents out of the Republic to hide in the Outer Rim from Jedi...

hmmmmmm there's a good story idea there methinks...
To DREAM the IMPOSSIBLE DREAM. To FIGHT the unbeatable foe. To BEAR with unbearable sorrow. To RUN where the brave dare not go. To RIGHT the unrightable wrong. To LOVE, PURE AND CHASTE, FROM AFAR [-sigh-]. To TRY, when your arms are too weary; to REACH the unreachable Star!... This is my Quest; To follow that Star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far...

I've always found it interesting that even Anakin was said to be too old. If, in order to become a proper Jedi, one must begin at such a young age......... Luke Skywalker was practically an adult when he was basically introduced to the concept of Jediism!   :P Guess desperate times call for desperate measures.........

Also.......(a little off topic)....... I have always loved the way that, though it seems that Qui Gon was wrong about Anakin, it actually turns out to be Anakin who indeed fulfills the prophecy as he kills Palpatine.......... though some might argue that it is actually Luke who is the chosen one! I suppose....when it is your destiny....... it matters not when you begin the Jedi Path.

Well in creating my backstory I was trying to keep it accurate as much as possible. But I also remember what Shami said about the Outer Rim, "The Republic doesn't exist out here". So I wonder how many force-sensitive children slipped through.

Shimi.^^ I think the jedi's fall was inevitable. They stopped listening to the will of the force, but that's another story. Also the Jedi had satellie temples
around the galaxy.Their main one was on Coruscant. It was also possible that they could survive the purges. It depends on which era you want to write your backstory. My backstory has me a littler older than Obi(as a Padwan) That time frame

Oops I misspelled it too. My Jedi is during the time of Knights Of The Old Republic, the comic and the game. Upon doing some research here and on tf.n I figured 3 would be okay. Also the Jedi in the comic (I have been told) was 3 or 4 before he went for his training. Or at least that is what I was told.
