Title: DCLS-006le #1
Post by: Darth Chasm on September 24, 2019, 01:30:29 PM
Full custom removable reveal core, pixel saber.

The main hilt pieces were machined at TCSS. I machined everything else including shroud, brass accents, buttons, and the complete core.

The forward D-Ring was inspired by the MPP D-Ring placement. The brass inserts/buttons were done to emulate the look of a clamp card traces but in a unique way.

The CFX is help by an internal nylon support chassis and is further insulated by a plastic diffuser film that runs the full length of the metal core. The brass underlay is heat treated to a rainbow patina and sits on top of the diffuser film leaving the board and wire completely isolated from metal.

The crystal chamber features spun wire conduits, soldered tubing, and finned heatsink.

The forward housing is nylon and holds the RC port, 3 Pin RICE, switches, and pixel blade connector.

The brass speaker pod is removable and the speaker has a 2 pin connector making it easy to get access to the on-board USB and SD card.

Specs:

12"
1.73 lbs.
CFX/pixel config
8 Segment smd bar graph (Yellow x3, Orange x3, Red x2)

Brass and copper accents

Saber Essentials 24mm speaker
Blood
Sweat
and lots of tears

Just to give this beauty of a saber its due...

It's utterly stunning. I like the subtle "trident" design in the chamber tubing. The color balance throughout the design is exquisite. It seems that you also were focusing on creating a comfortable design as well as one that's both practical and reflects an "in-universe" aesthetic.

Just marvelous... Thank you for sharing this one!

Another excellent saber from the House of Chasm. Nice one, man! I'm loving the brass switch actuators. Such a nice, clean way to hide buttons (so nice in fact, I might have to borrow them.)

Anyone else playing a quick game of Spot the Difference between this DCLS006 and the one in DC's signature? I can spot five myself

Thanks! Yep I made lots of changes going from prototype to final version. Not just aesthetic, but also fabrication-wise. The buttons mechanism is completely different. Hit me up sometime if you want to know how I did them.

Beautiful work. Love the buttons.

Thank you!

Thanks. I would, but figuring out how to reverse engineer things is half the fun for me.

OK. One thing I'll mention just for fun... High E guitar string came in very handy.

Hey, DC, would you mind if I borrowed your detachable speaker pod? I'm in a similar situation on an upcoming build, where the only way I can access the CFX USB/SD is via popping out the speaker, and that detachable pod design is just an incredibly elegant solution to the problem.

Absolutely, go for it. Honestly, I don’t think I’m the first to do it so I can’t really lay claim.

Thanks. I know, same with most ideas in this hobby, really. But I reckon it's polite of me to ask the person I'm copying from, at least.
