Title: Pianoman's Quick review of Luke ROTJ
Post by: GRAND MOFF TARKIN on January 05, 2007, 02:12:09 PM
 Ok.

My brother decided to buy me a ROTJ Luke, yeah I know, what a guy! ;D  I saw it at the sharper image store about 2 weeks ago and I wasn't impressed. The hilt seemed like a toy to me, very light. The copper paint was cheap, and the blade's green tone was much more faint than what I had seen in photos. So he bought me one and after an hour of pretending to be a jedi night, I LOVE THIS SABER. It is very loud, much better balanced since its lighter, and the blade, Holy crap! I put E2 TI's in it and its spot on lime green! Fantastic!

The sensors seem to have a faster response then my Obi or Anakin, which makes it a tad more realistic since the go off when I swing, instead of right after. I have NO dark spots in my blade. NONE. I have one in my Anakin, a small one on my Obi-wan, but none on here.  I can't wait for a V2 Hero upgrade as soon as JSS is back in business. I have yet to accidently turn it off too. I like the triangular ring instead of the covertec clip.

The blade is not nearly as sturdy as my Obi-wan. That and the paint are its two downfalls. But nothing that a copper kit can't fix till JSS is back.

And man, that blade rocks!!!! Did I mention how bright it is!! Good Lord I love it!!

Hi Pianoman
That is like the old saying that my father told me when I was ten that I can not judge a book by it's cover!!haha When you first seen this saber you thought nothing about it;but, when you started to mess with it for a while and saw that cool green blade and that loud sound coming from that bad boy;I'm sure at that moment it made you take a second look!!hahaAnyway congrats on your new saber!!DaJoQuim

Yes, that old saying.

I should have realized that the batteries were shot in the display model, the blade was faint
faint green, but the sound was fully there, which led me to believe that the blade was more Mint colored then it was lime green. It still feels a hair too lite, but its great for control. On my Obi, when you swing it side to side, you can feel the weight counter act you when you go to swing it back from the opposite direction. This you do not. Its balance is much better, much more controllable.

I know what you mean on that saber being light. It's one of my favorite sabers I must say.DaJoQuim

Ya know, the ROTJ is not the newest saber. Some sabers have a better blade, some sabers may have a nicer hilt, some sabers may have better sounds, but I don't think any saber feels better overall than an ROTJ! It may not be the "best" saber but there's just something about it that draws you to it. I'm glad you got one. Now go have fun with it!

Theres somthing striking about the green blade. The blue is much more "soothing" I guess.
The green just jumps into your eyes. I can't wait for the led's to die so I can convert it to a luxeon
so I can just wear the hilt. ROTJ was always my favorite, along with the green blade.

I know where your're coming from on that. Being able to wear a real working hilt on my side is worth the money by itself!! Good luck on your saber my friend. DaJoQuim

It's my second favorite of them all for the reasons you have described. It's over all arguably the best force fx yet.

If only the sounds were accurate It would be spot on, of course I guess that goes for them all. Although it is the same recycled jedi sounds ::), they sound ok. The muffled tone that this saber has sounds more realistic then the crisp, sharp sounds of the Obi-wan, with the exception of the ignition sound. Another thing is the on-off switch. It is nice that MR utilized the real switch instead of having it for decoration. I was kind of dissapointed that the Anakin's switch was the "clamp lever" if you can call it a lever.

So I took some nail polish remover to the "copper" paint. The silver looks better and the neck looks smaller. Looks much much better.

Small update.

Well its been awhile now and It is still my favorite saber.

I decided to clean it up, so I broke out the Meguriars Gold Class Car Wax, and let me tell you. This thing was dirty. After 4 hours of waxing, 3 size 13 tube socks(inside and out) and a 1/5 of wax I have it to an almost mirror finish. If you look at the photos of a polished JSS Hero Luke, yeah it looks like that. Its pretty hot!!!

Thanks... and the saber still rocks. Even more so since its an As First Built, V2. Check it out on the ROTJ V2 board in saber modifications.

Equinox is supposed to be coming out with a thin neck modification or somthing to that effect for these so it will be pretty cool.

Very nice quick review pianoman!  I'd like to see some pics of that copperless neck of your saber.

Congrats on your soon to become luke ROTJ V2 as first built!

There is my V2. I painted it all black because, when you see the shots in the movie, it was black but its all "weathered" so I figured that is what it would look like new.

Sorry R2, I don't have any pictures of the saber with out the copper. But I think there are some here on the site somwhere.

No. Tengo uno sabre de Luke Skywalker. ;D I painted the only one I have. Orginally I had taken off the copper paint. It looked really good. Then I decieded to go all out and paint it V2 style. If you want to take off the muy malo copper paint then go for it. I think it looks mucho mejor then before.

yeah well, i've got 2 lukes, on MR one lux, the stock one is with the copper upgrade, and the lux is a bit beat, it's my practice saber.  In fact it has a TCCS blade that's kinda heavy, i like it specifically because of that.  For spins i find it better.  So i think i will try and take the copper of the lux one, and mod it to a V2, wheathered of course cause it's already weathered  :D i've hit a couple of times and it has scratchs in the neck copper part.  Well let's just say it is not mint.
