Corbin film or blades
« on: June 21, 2006, 03:42:59 PM »
Hi guys I would like to start a topic on corbins stuff, Ive been hearing alot of good things about his goods.
I have a few questions though.
1. Is corbin stuff a film you put in the blade or is it a blade itself?
2. how do i obtain this corbin stuff?
I would like to try out on my hyperblades. :)

Thanks Brandon Heat

Well, corbin sells two things that are his "signature" stuff: his film and his driver.

Corbin's "blades" are the film.  He uses PolyCarbonate like a lot but in place of a "diffuser" he puts his film.  His film is a PolyCarbonate film that is scratched perpendicular to the blade.

You can buy his film through his "store" at www.corbinscomponents.com  it's $7 for the double wrap of film.  I'd say a single wrap would be fine as the only place I know of to put it would be around the LEDs as the nylon would be too tight to get it in.

If you're interested in films I'd look for mylar and polypropeylene (sp?).  Mylar can be expensive but PolyP film is dirt cheap.

I'm not sure how it'd work with a LED strip blade like Hyper's but on Luxeons it has a "distinctive" look.  It gives a thin bright core up the blade.  It's very reminisent of the old posters.

It's designed to show-off his driver.  It's dimming in and out is highlighted by having a "core" and makes me not miss the scroll of LED strips.  I personally love the look.

Here's an amber LED of mine with the blade film:

That's a pretty darn accurate shot of the blade too.  The flare isn't quite so "cinematic" because of the lens flare my camera gave it, lol.  On Monday I can take a green LED pic as that is when my order comes in with the quick disconnects for it.  (I forgot I needed an extra on the first order :-\ )  I could get a red too whenever my Vader ESB arrives in the mail.

EDIT to make image clickie  ;D

Hey ghost you seem to know alot about this corbin film stuff.  I'm actually going to order one of the blades.  Which blade is better the 30" or the 40" thick walled tube?

Well you can pick whatever length you want in between.  Corbin's normal deal is a dollar per inch.  I prefer 36" blades and that's what's in the pic.

Basically the core stays the same but the outer color will be dimmer with the length.

Here's a pic of Corbin himself with a 44" blade:

It's definatly better than a diffuser like MR's or even TCSS' as a 44" one of those would be pretty dim at the tip.

Is it possible to order a 36'' blade from corbin?  I think thats what the length of a stock fx blade is.

The Stock MR blade is 32-33 inches from emitter to tip.  ;)

2010...I certainly hope it's better than 2009 was! ::)
10/10/10~Well, so far with my Father's passing away, I'd say that this year was actually worse than 2009, even the fact that I now have a full time job (For now) isn't anywhere near enough to make up for that...so...maybe 2011 will be better? I'm not holding my breath... ::)

And according the SW Database, the average lightsaber blade is 36" long with a 11"-12" hilt. ;)
