Youngling saber series from Ing Chao!
« on: April 05, 2013, 05:16:40 AM »
Hey folks, long time no saber post from me, huh??
Well, I've been PLENTY busy. As some of you may know, I run the Saber Combat Academy out on Long Island, NY.
In the course of teaching my kids class, I've noticed that even my standard stunt sabers (1.25od hilts with thick walled poly-c)
have been too awkward for kids under 10. So I came with an idea to use 1" od aluminum with Gelu (pex) blades.
Well, the kids and (parents) LOVE them. The thinner hilt and softer blades allow the kids to be more aggresive AND spin those sabers pretty nicely- I'm gonna post some vid soon of one youngling who has a reverse blossom not unlike a helicopter blade!

Anyway, here's the specs in the saber I call "ViolenttmCousin" It's actually the second saber I've podercoated this color. The first saber I built for a 7 year old girl and she wanted the hilt powdercoated in translucent violet with a purple blade (or Vilolenttm as I call it) 8). Well her cousin joined the class and she wanted the same set up but with a blue blade instead! THis is definitely a little girls saber! I really like it though 'cause watching these girls go all Yoda on everybody brings a tear to my old eyes!!!!! :'( :'(
The blade is iluminated by a 3watt blue LED and has an in hilt recharge port! Of course it also features my Pommel SwitchTM
Now some pics for your eye-holes:

Yous say 1" OD. What size blade does this one take? Or is this one a 1.25" OD?

That purple is a bold color choice.

That's pretty thin and sounds great for kids any chance of fitting an nanobiscuit in one?

Time will bring the real end of our trial.  One day they'll be no remnants

Yes! Sooner or later someone is gonna request one, stayed tuned for that.

Iggy: The OD is 1" on the hilt itself. The pex is 3/4" and fits tightly into the hilt. The pommel is wider as I used 1.25" alum on that.

Thanks, Bro! =Rei=
We gotta get some kinda cyber-bow for us to use!
Anyway, teaching these kids has been a blast! I've been splitting the class into halves- half saber then half empty hand and with this approach I've been able to keep these kids' attention for up to an hour and a half!!!!! They've been soaking up everything I've been teaching them and it's really becoming a new and COMPLETE martial art unto itself. For a while I had lost my way in the martial arts world, but these kids have brought me back to the path and teaching them has showed me a whole new focus. I am truly grateful to these kids and hope I have as much of a positive impact on them as they've had on me!
