Yun Lightsaber by Acerocket and LDM install by Jango
« on: January 17, 2010, 09:00:26 PM »
Not exactly the easiest install I've ever done....
Notes
Discarded included chassis and made a custom one out of Nylon. Top bar is secured inside with a very small hex screw and is not easy to remove or put back in.
LDM's install notes suggest an internal recharge port system in the emitter. That would require 4 parts to be removed to start the saber.

"um no. I don't think so."

One of my rules for installing is "no more than 2 parts may be removed from the hilt when turning on a saber, including the kill key." Known in-house as the Negotiator Treaty of 2009.
The pommel has been modified with a 2.1mm recharge port.

Blade retention is with a ring attached to the blade. It is held in place with the LED unit and emitter by 2 screws. I am not sure I am happy with this and may modify it in the future for a blade retention screw.

summary
I am proud to own another Acerocket machined saber, and I hope he is not offended by the changes I chose to make in it. Thank you LDM/Grievous for coordinating the run, providing a tutorial and opening it up to the public.
If you get a chance to own one of these, go for it. It is a unique design and I hope there will be similar collaborations in the future.

Nicely done, darn, ...I haven't even taken ours apart yet.

Depending on what sound options I use, I may need to "peek" into yours to see what was done differently.

Hey... we got a "shout-out" in the vid!  :D

Great job, JANGO.  I think the nylon blade tones down some of that "highlighter" yellow from the Deep Straw filter... it looks good.

Oh the humanity!!  You butcher you!!!

No, just kidding.  It's your saber so have fun doing what you want.  One thing though, you are supposed to leave the black collar on the body and only take the emitter off to install the blade.  The ring should be a little higher on the blade so it passes into the black collar part.  Then you only need to take one piece of to remove the blade.  I don't know if LDM daid you needed to remove the black collar or not to do the blade.

Looking pretty cool though. ;D

Holy cow - I just noticed on mine that the emitter unscrews - try it!

Grassy, Ace!

Edit: I just checked my instructions - Yes, LDM does indeed say to "unscrew the emitter"... I so fail. :D

LOL!!!  You guys are hilarious.  Just like men not to read the instructions :D

Awesome vid Jango.  Nice additions with the LED in the tactile hole and the lighted pommel.

Congratulations on having another piece of Acerocket goodness in your collection :)
