Kylo Force FX Elite Troubleshooting - Help!

Just received this for Chrstmas!  Put in 3 brand new Duracell batteries, and when switched on, it makes a quick sound, and that is it.  All blades are properly inserted as well as the battery holder.  No lights or effects at all.  Only when switching it off and on produces a quick sound and nothing else.  I am looking to see if anyone has a quck solution, otherwise I suspect it may be defective and I will go through the hassle of a return to dealer/manufacturer.
