hmm, funny that you say you had best success covering the holes.  my best was by leaving the holes open.  I could do some sort of bench test if you want.

double layer of electrical tape is what i used. you can also hold it in your hand and cover ALL 4 holes with your fingers

Yeah, they're not on TCSS anymore. I'll need a link.

Yup. I needed one for a project also, but ended up just ordering the 8.7 degree lens from TCSS instead.  Should work just fine.

I have read that the 10 degree is good for an ledengin 10w, but I don't think I've seen anyone test an 8.7 against a 10 for an ledengin 10w but I do know from experience that a 10 degree lens works twice as good as a 5 degree on the ledengin series.  don't care what the light meters say, my blades do not light up evenly with the 5 degree.  if I had a 10 degree that didn't require a complete uninstall of the soundboard to get to (mkvi) I'd do a test with my 34" ultraedge blade, but I don't.

We are using the 8.7 degree lenses almost exclusively at this point.  We have not been able to get the 10 degrees for the past couple of months and they are no longer being made :'(.  Agreed that the 5 degree do not work well.  We are trying some other choices as well to see if they do better than the 8.7 but at this point, the8.7s are the best out there that we have tested so far.

is it really better than the 10?  I just wanted to be sure the 8.7 was good for the ledengin before I got some.  Oh, I know where my other 10 degree went.  it is in my graflex  :P  curses.

I've used the 8.7 and 10 before. I used to have both when I first did my first RGBA. The 10 mixed nicely, but the 8.7 was ultimately brighter It created more of a flare around the blade (you know the one you can see when you hold it up to a dark color).

The closest you can get to 10 degrees now (on the wide end) is: http://www.luxeonstar.com/Carclo-12-Deg-Frosted-20mm-Lens-No-Holder-p/10194.htm

Its a 12 degree frosted lens.. Which diffuses the light together and should provide superior color mixing, but may not be as bright as the 8.7 due to the diffusion and the extra 3.3 degrees.

Just remember as well, the difference between 8.7 and 10 = 1.3 degrees.
The difference between 10 and 12 = 2 degrees. The 8.7 is actually the closest to the 10.
