the satellites PCBs for the RGB barrel ray arrived today. They are small and neat. Definitely a very efficient space saver compared to several power xtenders.
(37x18mm)
Will assemble some tomorrow.
I also have all the animations/videos to put in the screen version, I just need half an hour to compile the contents and make a release archive/document providing the "codes" to access them from the configuration file.
2 lines/parameters were added to the style.txt file, one starting with splash (video = boot), the other with (screen) saver. Both lines have a set of parameters that provide the BC3 the access/locations to the chosen videos.
I also found a nice way to send upgrades of the screen video context, in case someone wants something custom. It will use HxD (freeware) to install the package to the SD card. It's been a pain to find the right technique since with XP it's overall easier+fine but with vista or windows 7, you need to go thru admin rights to do certain low level things with the SD card. But the solution is found and the tutorial will be written.
so far, we have a nice collection of videos :
- magic ring
- magic ring fading to the (shorten) plecterlabs video intro I use on youtube
- MS-DOS like cursor / terminal with typewriter style text "loading weapons => system armed". About 8 sec, nice screen saver
- Matrix screen animation displaying "waiting" after the cyphered characters are gone
- Imperial boot sequence (long + short variants)
- Rebel boot sequence (long + short variant)
- System arming horizontal loading bar - 0-100%
- Scrolling text in the background + annular boot progress indicator
the boot sounds of the default package aren't specifically matching any of the videos. But then it's just about making the boot sound of your choice, once
the video has been selected for the splash screen / boot sequence. The short variants are about 3.5 sec long, which is matching more or less the E-11 "imperial trooper" sound font. Then any sound can be created or existing sounds can be dilated / time compressed with most audio software without changing the pitch (and without critical phasing if the % of duration remains < 30-40%).
I know I have to work on the sound packages of the blaster. I'll be happy to see people actually making some and if they want to share them, I can host them and propose them for DL on the website. No mixing needed, just spending time (that I don't have) searching the internet for nice sounds, explore game archives and so on.
Speaking of, we need to make a duke nukem sound font I suppose.
