My Sith saber form practice videos
« on: July 25, 2010, 09:11:15 PM »
Hi Everyone!

I recently asked a couple friends to film one of my saber form practice sessions so I could get a feel for how it looks from the outside. It's not nearly finished/as clean as I'd like it to be (the form is broken down into parts for this session), but I've already improved a lot being able to watch these. Some friends/family asked me to post them so they can keep up with my progress, so I figured I'd share them with you all as well. :)

As many of you will notice, I adopted a heavy Starkiller influence in the style and some of the combos, as it fit so well with my personal style of martial arts... developed and added a few techniques and my own flare as well, though as I said, I'm in the process of cleaning it up a bit ;) I just finally got it to the point where I feel the techniques are where they need to be. I also have to give some love to my roomie who has provided an immense amount of help during the creation.

I'll be taking more (better :D) video in the near future, but for now, let me know what you think!

Hey, you're pretty good.  Footwork looks clean, which is definitely the hardest part.  Nice work.

I'm impressed with the sharpness of your techniques and the fluidity of your jumps. (Man I wish I could flip like that!)

Nice job, man. Now that's what I like to see...more people doing creative open saber forms and spreading the word of martial arts/saberplay.

I sincerely hope you plan to put that to music and perform it at a tournament...you will do well.

Keep up the good work and please keep sharing.

Very nice job!  From the looks of it, you have a taekwando/xma background....   I personally love a more flashy style for saber exhibitions... I created a form for our demos that utilizes the reverse grip as well....  You have some pretty cool combos and transitions...    I look forward to seeing the form completed and the final presentation.   ;D

Thanks for the feedback and kind words everyone! :D

My background is indeed in Tae Kwon Do, with influences from other studies (like most martial artists), most specifically Capoeira.

My roomie who has been helping me with this form will be helping me polish it over the next few weeks - month, and we're going to begin work on our first 2 person choreography as we wrap this one. Should be a ton of fun, we have some cool ideas that have grown out of this, so hopefully it'll keep rolling at pace! :)

I know the San Jose area had an effort to put together a troupe a while back which didn't really work out, but if anyone is still interested in doing something like that, we'd love to find more like-minded people to learn, share, and perform with! :)

Will post the "finished goods" soon, MTFBWY!

Dude, I PM'd you about meeting up in the SJ area (Novastar lives there and I am about an hour away) and no response. The offer still stands.
