"Talitha" an LDM exercise in Cram-fu for Jasten Skywalker
« on: June 10, 2010, 08:09:29 PM »
Talitha

I shall not be verbose with regard to this project.  Suffice to say that Jasten contacted me to help him with some cram-fu.  He made this (his dream hilt) saber and wanted her to have 7 total accent LEDs including a bar graph along with his LEDengin Clash/flash.  The placement of the accent LEDs is what made this tough (I had to feed them through with lead wires and make a separate wiring harness specifically for the accent LEDs in the front half of the saber).  The saber has 2 layers of shrouds and i had to install everything in layers to make it all fit.  I have said many prayers that I never have to repair this thing...wheeeeeew!  Everything is on QDs but that was a means to an end because of the shrouds.

I also had to repair a hole in the side of the saber (under the g-flex clamp) so it would take a screw.  I made a nifty little metal patch for this...cool.  I also re-cut his channel in the hilt for the bargraph (so it would fit).  He sent 2 battery packs...neither of which would work in this build so I also made him a new 7.4V Li-ion battery pack (side by side) and stacked the CF on top of it since the grenade section of this saber is FULL of wire and LEDs.  Finally, I added his CT wheel and configured his CF with a few special requests..which yo can see in the vids.

Wow LDM! WOW!   :o  I love it!  Your cram-fu skills are legendary.  I can't wait to hold it in my hands. I am blown away by how you managed to get it all to fit in there. You were able to breathe life into my "Talitha". THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Btw, you were right. The silver and black button looks a lot better than the red. I'll be changing that out (like you suggested) when I get it home. I'm also going to take your recommendation on the CT wheel, and take it off and put the faux transister style button back on it.

That is a very busy but very cool saber, the nod to many of the saga sabers is very apparent here. Love the design but I take my hat off to you General, on your supreme mastery of the cram-fu, awesome work and neat boot up LDM specific sounds on the CF. Nice touch.

I agree. I don't know how he made it fit, but he did. I tried so many times to make it work, but couldn't, so I contacted the one man capable of finishing my baby. Boy, he sure didn't disappoint.

The saber's name "Talitha" means "the third leap", which I thought to represent the progression from Padawan to Apprentice to Jedi Knight. I was kidding around with LDM through email and told him that the name now has dual meaning. Because of the insane difficulty of the wiring job, I told him that the saber also represents his progression from Cram-Fu Specialist to Cram-fu Master to Cram-Fu God.  :D

I'm beyond excited!!!

I just picked this one up from Jasten, and I sure am glad you keep all of these videos and such around.  I know your work and when it was still there a couple of hours later....I caved.  :D
