3AAA Battery Holder I use in my PVC builds for use with soundboards or buckpucks. Scratch and use flux to Pre-solder the terminals. Solder wires to terminals, and don't overheat. I build mine in assembly line fashion. Thin-wall blade stock slides over these beautifully to act as retention for your batteries.

Thanks for this page, PhoenixJedi. ;D
The link you have for
LEDEngin 5w Blue
http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=897-LZ110R200
actually takes you to 5w Deep Red.
-
Fixed. Sorry about that. Mouser didnt link to the new 5W version properly from the old one.
-
Not a problem. Thanks for taking the time to compile this list into one spot. I already had most of these links saved, but this will be a major time saver for people in the future.
+1 for Stickie

I commonly look for these things too. Even I have a bookmark to my own thread now. It would be great to get Crees on here.. (but only the brightest ones)
-
I have never bought any Crees from a site, only from other members.
I'm sure somebody will chime in with some links to some bright ones though.
-
Very nice resource. Thanks for posting this.
-
Wow this is good for a sticky.
Just keep helping to get this up-to-date.
Very nice. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
-
THANK YOU For posting this. I agree this is great for a sticky. Been looking to buy parts and stumbling onto this thread was a life saver!
-
So, anyone have the information on crees? Or any other sources for the above?
-
I get my cree leds from ledsupply.... I've only ever gotten blue, but it by far my favorite blue out there..... ;)
-
Great info thanks so much for outing this together!
+1 for sticky!
-
WOW- :o all ive got to say is a MASSIVE THANK YOU-PHOENIXJEDI for taking the time and trouble to post this, mouser.com is a little confusing for ME to navigate ...i know i shouldn't ask this but how do you differentiate which LED-ENGINs are on a star base and which have the addressable dies.?
-
The LEDs with addressable dies are solely the RGGB, RGBW, and RGBA. The solid colors are all discontinued, other than some old stock on the reds. You can tell by the LZ4-2. The two denotes the individually addressable dice on the 10W solid colors. If you see LZ4-4, it is a series wired LED, we don't want that :D.
We are working on a solution for the community for the solid colors since Mouser and Newark are not going to be carrying the solid color individually addressable versions on MCPCBs. They will be carrying emitter only, but unless you have someone to reflow them onto a star, that option stinks :'(.

Link?
-
thanks LUMINARA got it ...2.. is a good number ___ 4 is a VERY BAD number ....but like ive said mouser.com is confusing me ?? .i only see the emitter on their listing and can't figure out the star version , is this also signifiesd by a number or letter .?
-
The emitters are LZ4-0, the LZ4-4 and LZ4-2s are the MCPCB options. Again, we only want the LZ4-2s.
-
Maybe if enough of us send emails to mouser they'll carry the LZ4-2s.
-
sincere thanks for this thread and information. :)
-
What I was told is that their sales history was very low ::).
I tried to explain to them that they have really just caught on in the last year or so. We'll see what happens.
-
Lzc is looking more interesting lately. The 40w Violet at 415nm looks so awesome but it's made out of unobtainium. :(

I've e-mailed them by my companies name 'M. van der Sluis Electronics'
Maybe it was impressive enough to believe the saber hobby is bigger.
You'll never know,... maybe I can buy a bunch of 4 Dies single colored LED's in, to help this hobby out.
If they search deeper, they will find out 'M. van der Sluis Electronics' has more to do with Video equipment and Projectors instead of electronic parts haha. ;D
Maybe they will only check my registration. :D :D
>:( Maybe they wont check anything and throw that mail in the dumper. >:(
-
Noob, this was not good.
We need the manufacturer.
I've got back this e-mail;
Dear Matthieu,
Thank you for your email. Mouser Electronics is not a manufacturer. We´re just a catalog distributor.
If you give me the part number of these LED´s ?
For any further help please let us know.

We might need to give them the Part numbers, so they can fight with us?
Or we go and search for the manufacturer ourselfs.

Great list, thank you very much for posting (and stickying) it! Perfect for new saberbuilders :)
-
Noob, this was not good.
We need the manufacturer.

Custom layouts for LEDs is not an easy thing to come by. I'd love to get LEDengin to make custom LZ4's but I don't see that as an option. I'm sure they'd do it for a large quantity (like 1000 pieces) but they're not going to do small runs.
LuxeonStar.com carries custom tri-rebels but there aren't any really good optic solutions for them.
-
Let's start a new topic for the email campaign to mouser and or LedEngin.
I'll get it started in a few minutes. DONE.

I hope you didn't get any of those. they won't work. they are serially connected and only work with more voltage than any soundboard can handle.

I haven't looked at the data sheets on all of them yet but the ones with green MCPCBs are not. Each die is individually addressable.

Do you have links to a lens solution that will work with the tri-rebs in commonly used devices? As well, the 10W parallel LEDs that remain are listed in the first post. The 10W Serials -- Model Number: LZ4-4XXXXX Are the serial connected ones and will not work in a saber.
-
straight from the data sheet.
MCPCB Options
Part Number Description Size Thermal Resistance Channel
LZ4-4XXX00 LZ4 Standard D=19.9mm, H=5.9mm 1.1C/W 1 Channel
LZ4-2XXX00 LZ4 Standard D=19.9mm, H=5.9mm 1.1C/W 4 Channel
the only ones you posted that work are the reds.
-
Ahh, whoops, now I see the ones you're talking about. Ignore that, I missed the "4" MCPCBs
-
I got so excited and then was like aww. :o... ;D... :D... :)... :-\... :(... :'(
;D ;D
-
I updated my post, struck out the "4"s and put in a link for the EoL Ambers. They have 11 left.
As for the tri-rebels, no good optics, 18* is the best I've found but it is still an option. Not a good one, but an option. Especially if you want crazy mixes of dies.
-
I am wondering if there would be a reflector that works better with tri-rebels. sure, you would lose a lot since the focus wouldn't be on any one led, but you sure lose a lot with the 18 degree triple lens setup. hmm...
-
People have tried both reflectors and lenses with the tri-rebels. Because the dice are all separate, rather than under a single dome, they just do not focus anywhere near as well as the LEDEngins. Xwingband was custom making tri-rebs over 2 years ago before Luxeon themselves were. It has been researched extensively.
-
got it. that was before I frequented the forums. I knew about those tri-rebels, but didn't know if people tried reflectors. thanks for the info.
-
hey phoenix, the links for the blade supplies/blades weren't working for me. are the links complete?
-
links fixed, 2W speaker link added.
-
hmm, funny that you say you had best success covering the holes. my best was by leaving the holes open. I could do some sort of bench test if you want.
-
double layer of electrical tape is what i used. you can also hold it in your hand and cover ALL 4 holes with your fingers
-
Cmon guys theres gotta be more sources for these things!
-
How about the carclo 10 degree?
-
How about the carclo 10 degree?
If you'd provide a link?

I was hoping someonr else had one. Can't find it. When I search "carclo 20mm 10 degree lens" I don't get it.
-
I was unaware of a Carclo 10 degree lens.
-
then I guess that is my problem. it isn't a carclo. WOW I need to read more....
*facepalm*
I meant the standard 10 degree luxeon collimator lens

Yeah, they're not on TCSS anymore. I'll need a link.

I'll keep searching, but I have an english paper due monday that I would love to finish tonight. So I should probably stop tag-teaming fx-sabers and my research

Yup. I needed one for a project also, but ended up just ordering the 8.7 degree lens from TCSS instead. Should work just fine.
-
I have read that the 10 degree is good for an ledengin 10w, but I don't think I've seen anyone test an 8.7 against a 10 for an ledengin 10w but I do know from experience that a 10 degree lens works twice as good as a 5 degree on the ledengin series. don't care what the light meters say, my blades do not light up evenly with the 5 degree. if I had a 10 degree that didn't require a complete uninstall of the soundboard to get to (mkvi) I'd do a test with my 34" ultraedge blade, but I don't.
-
We are using the 8.7 degree lenses almost exclusively at this point. We have not been able to get the 10 degrees for the past couple of months and they are no longer being made :'(. Agreed that the 5 degree do not work well. We are trying some other choices as well to see if they do better than the 8.7 but at this point, the8.7s are the best out there that we have tested so far.
-
is it really better than the 10? I just wanted to be sure the 8.7 was good for the ledengin before I got some. Oh, I know where my other 10 degree went. it is in my graflex :P curses.

I've used the 8.7 and 10 before. I used to have both when I first did my first RGBA. The 10 mixed nicely, but the 8.7 was ultimately brighter It created more of a flare around the blade (you know the one you can see when you hold it up to a dark color).
The closest you can get to 10 degrees now (on the wide end) is: http://www.luxeonstar.com/Carclo-12-Deg-Frosted-20mm-Lens-No-Holder-p/10194.htm
Its a 12 degree frosted lens.. Which diffuses the light together and should provide superior color mixing, but may not be as bright as the 8.7 due to the diffusion and the extra 3.3 degrees.
Just remember as well, the difference between 8.7 and 10 = 1.3 degrees.
The difference between 10 and 12 = 2 degrees. The 8.7 is actually the closest to the 10.

I saw that TCSS is now selling the individually connected single color LEDEngin 10W LEDs in all the single colors previously offered by LEDEngin, the ones that LEDEngin stopped making awhile back, the ones that prompted an email campaign thread to be created here at FX-Sabers in order to get LEDEngin to start making them again.
For my own curiosity, I went to mouser.com to see if they were selling them again or if Tim of TCSS managed to get a cache of discontinued LEDs from somewhere. Turns out, Mouser is indeed selling them again and they are new ones from LEDEngin (yes, I made sure there were the independently connected MCPCB versions, not the serially connected ones). This is awesome news and Tim is selling them for less than what mouser.com is selling them for which is even more awesome. Also the TCSS page for the LEDEngin LEDs mentions that he will have the RGBx LEDEngin 10W LEDs soon!
If LEDEngin making these LEDs again had anything to do with the email campaign from here... you people rock. Thank you for making this happen.

Updated 10W LedEngin LEDs and Added Li-Ion Batts.

Heres a link for some 16mm illuminated AV switches that I have used before. The only real difference that I could find for these is you can get any color ( dot or illuminated ) in a black casing or silver casing. Not all the ones on TCSS are black.. Just an alternative if someone wants a certain set up in black.
Also they offer 22mm sizes ! This would be good if you wanted to have a bigger AV style switch .. say in the pommel for a custom project.

Added 20 deg quad lenses.
-
Wow! Great list. Thank you for putting it together.
-
Any chance one of the Aussie sabersmiths posting about Aussie suppliers?? :)
-
Just updated this with: 3400mA and 3600mA batts, and 3AA pack.

For records I'm actually prototyping quadpod XPE2 cree leds on quadpod and their optics.
LEDSupply - For All Your LED Project Needs! (http://www.ledsupply.com/index.php?p=catalog&mode=search&search_in=all&search_str=quadpod)
the Carclo quad and Kathod quad are to be tested with, they borh match the led configuration even if the kathod, designed for rebels pcb does not match the cree's quadpod it could do the job within some adaptations.
-
I would DARE say that they should mount more rebels like they did the quad deep red. The LEDs facing in may help.
-
Is there a source for bubble strip leds? Or do most builders just use individual leds? What size is best?
-
Is there a source for bubble strip leds? Or do most builders just use individual leds? What size is best?
I use just the LEDs I scavage from mr blades
I have also seen really small rectangular LEDs at radio shack. You have to take into account the metal bar that goes through the control box also. I have also used a 5mm led before. Just have to put it in sideways so it is angled past the bar and at the center of the strip.
-
cheers for some great links
-
What would it take to get an updated list? I'm thinking about upgrading from the little 3 watter (which I didn't realize was 3 watts) to something beefier so it can be seen in day light.
-
what color where you thinking of upgrading?

For all european (expecially italian) forum sabersmiths, I found this company which sells alluminium online, even in small amounts. They were really nice and helpful with me; their site is both in italian and english language.

what color where you thinking of upgrading?
I would like either a white I can turn into red via something or red. The saber is a TCSS version of Revan. After looking around a little more a tri cree XP-E2 seems to be the way to go over the single cree XP-E in white I currently have.
-
Hey guys, I'm new to this and a little confused.
If I'm using a star/ luxeon style LED's, do I only need one to light the entire Blade?
-
Define 'one' yes I know it sounds odd. The LEDs come on stars, said star can have anywhere from 1 - 4 (sometimes more) bulbs on it. Yes one will work but finding a good one that can be seen well is an issue I'm having in part due to lack of experience and lack of money to throw at the problem. I currently run a single cree XP-E in white turned to red and it's barely visible in indoor lighting. I hear the XP-E2's are supposed to be pretty good, I'm also debating about just getting a really beefy white and doing something so it will be red.
