I live in a condo with a finished walk-out basement which I commandeered 1/2 of for my "shop". The lathe is actually in a  closet so when Im not working I can close the doors and the room still resembles a family room. It sucks not having a garage or real basement.

Please post the brand/model of your machines too, guys n gals.  I'll take some shots of my setup, too (though nothing like AceRocket's now, his certainly is my my goal someday!)

My mill is an original 1978 Bridgeport Series I Rigid Ram CNC mill.  The original reel to reel tape drive and transitorized control system has been replaced with a modern PC/Linux based computer system and DC servos.  I also plunked down the extra coinage to add a 4th axis rotary table.  Not what you would consider state of the art now, but it gets me through the day.

My lathe is a 1998 Femco Durga 25E.  It's a trick machine because it has a dual turret.  I can have up to 23 tools at a time on it (but I only have 17 set up on it right now).

I used Alibre 3d solid modelling for my models and OneCNC 3D CAD/CAM programs to generate my G-code.

I also have a no name Chinese band saw for cutting my raw stock down to manageable lengths.

Oh, and I have a Dremel too.  I use it quite a bit and it's on it's last legs.  Time to pick up a replacement and give the old one a Viking funeral.

1920s-30s LeBlond regal lathe. It was the machine that my dad learned on from his grandfather when my dad was like 10. Still works like a champ, though Im still learning how to use it and need to learn more about bit making and other techniques. My mill is fairly new, it was bought from a machine shop that had used it twice and then got a newer 3 phase machine and left this one alone. Its a Jet-16 12 speed and it was like new when I brought it home the surface had 0, zip, nada scratches on it and the accesory vice still had shipping wrap on it. It was also the heaviest thing I've EVER moved and we used the engine hoist to get it in the shop. I have 2 other drill presses, my bench grinder, the miter saw and the buffing wheel, as well as my Dremel of course, but even it is showing some wear.

You guys are giving me tool envy. ;)

That's the problem with living in a small house with my shop in the Garage...

Anyway. Her's my meager stuff.  It's not all of it.  I have other toys to play with too, but they are still in the basement shop. And it's more trashed than this one... :D

Man I wish i could have a Bridgeport! :(

This is way trashed too...  Glad I am moving the shop into an actual industrial building in the fall!  8) This is also by no means the whole thing.

Before anyone clowns me.  I must state that I work on Motorcycles, Cars, and fix bicycles for the neighborhood kids as well in this area so it is ALWAYS in motion here. The layout never really looks the same, and this is only half of what's here, because the parts you don't see are completely TRASHED.

And my Crate Blue Voodoo Amp and guitars. (Yes they are in the garage with the neighbor's drum kit too.) ;D

I won't lie I have wondered about what everyone has and the tools involved. I have no skill building anything but the custom saber movement does inspire me to figure out how to wire and such. Nice stuff to you all.

Oh and DT, do the kids know of your evil Sith lord ways (Forgive the joke, but that is seriously kool you help them with their bikes).

Lovin' your "Darth Ursus", DT.  I also admire your helping the neighborhood kids out --doesn't surprise me. :)

Speaking of Grizzlies, I'm curious to try the G4015Z combo this spring when I get a little more room. It's a little smaller than your model, IIRC. How do you like the Grizzly? Runout?

For really small parts, I was contemplating getting a mini-mill (Sherline 10") and maybe Sherline's 3.5x8 lathe, and mounting those beside my larger mill/lathe combo I currently have (ShopFox). I can outfit the larger setup for hilts, and the smaller setup for details like chambers, pommels, claws, prototyping, etc.

The Grizzly Lathes are surprisingly accurate right out of the box.  Sure they need a LOT of cleanup when they arrive, and are some heavy beasts, but mine only had .0012" of taper out of the box that was quickly remedied.

All of the gibs needed MAJOR adjustment when it arrived, on both the lathe and mill. Took me six hours just to clean al the red goo.

I have a base for the Mill (Basically just a G8689 mini mill) that I bought from littlemachineshop.com I had it set up, but moved the mill back on to the lathe while I was moving things around in the work area.  I will ebentually separate the Lathe and mill again when I have more time.  That's a big drawback with this setup, and the Seig version (Same thing), in the fact that the mill head REALLY gets in your way sometimes.  I also picked up a steady rest for the lathe (recommended to me by Arm on Fire)

Really with a little adjustment and complete cleaning, the grizzly lathes are capable of turning a basic saber, right out of the box if you have the correct tooling. The only real pain about them is that you have to manually change the gearing for threading and feed rates.  I really wish i could have gotten a geared and clutched precision gunsmit'hs lathe, but Working one a budget, that wasn't possible.  :-[

I did get a belt drive kit for the mill head to replace some of the plastic gears in the mill.  It muns much more smoothly, and is about 30% quieter.  I have a friend of mine making an all metal gear drive.

The only thing I don't like about the G0516 is the fact that the spindle bore is very narrow, and will not allow 1" blade stock to pass through the spindle head and through the chuck you you can true blades easily. But that's why I use the steady rest, and buy 40" blade tubes. (The extra left over gets made into LED housing units) ;)

While I don't usually consider myself to be a sbaersmith,  but rather a saber assembler,  I cleaned up the work area today and snapped a few pics:

In the first pic on the left,  is the whole workbench.  It's ten feet long,  and 2 feet deep.  I built it myself years ago.  It's supposed to be out in my shed in the back yard,  but there's no electricity out there yet.  In the second pic on the right,  you can see the drill press,  my rotary tool,  the drill bits,  some files,  and my plier sets.  Most of the fab work I do is done right in this area of the bench.  Behind the drill press is my grinder and my regular drill.  That's the one I use when I hone a blade holder.  A closer look at those tools is below,  on the left.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi119.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo141%2FJay-gon_Jinn%2F000_1245.jpg&hash=d03d62436cbe42aa47861910291dbf65f6cd28a4) (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/000_1245.jpg) (https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi119.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo141%2FJay-gon_Jinn%2F000_1246.jpg&hash=dc9f4d9f88a8af495f65e7b7815e2d6b21336188) (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/000_1246.jpg)
The above right pic is where I keep all of the tools I need during the saber assembly process.  Some of the tools there are my wire strippers (I know,  DT,  they're old fashioned,  but they still work!),  my digital multimeter,  the tubing cutter i use to make the grip rings I like to do,  and the drill bit sets.  The small red cases in the front center are my drill and tap sets.

This is where I do most of the work on the sabers.  You can see BS-14 there awaiting some new brass parts....I have my wire spools stacked so I can get to them easily....I have plans to have them on pegboard when I get the permanent set-up going out in the shed....the tackle box houses all of my smaller elctronics parts.  Off the left of that in the small boxes and bags are the screws I use.  Those will eventually be in an organizer,  but I'm too lazy to go out and buy one right now.  I have one out in the garage I could use for this stuff....anyway,  in the other pic,  you can see me soldering iron and my helping hands set-up.  My hot glue gun is in there,  too,  along with my battery chargers.  Now,  on the opposite side of me work bench,  I have two of those portable tables set up:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi119.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo141%2FJay-gon_Jinn%2F000_1249.jpg&hash=e3b9136c04c454b4ad468bc5219862e3f7e299df) (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/000_1249.jpg) (https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi119.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo141%2FJay-gon_Jinn%2F000_1250.jpg&hash=c5ac440eb9d38a44391f1e4018d34835d8ed74d8) (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/000_1250.jpg)
The pic on the left is the "stand by" table...where parts wait to become a saber!  I keep spare parts there,  too.  The pic on the right is where I keep my personal stuff.  I need to get a case or something for those...they take up a lot of space!  The two boxes in the pic on the righthouse the pieces and parts to Taskmaster99's CS-8 and Khrysaor's BS-12.  also seen there is BS-13, awaitint someone to give it a good home!
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi119.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo141%2FJay-gon_Jinn%2F000_1251.jpg&hash=54e036f8966a8234f9a05e863acc48acccf7f003) (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/000_1251.jpg) (https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi119.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fo141%2FJay-gon_Jinn%2F000_1252.jpg&hash=8df0dcc16a6309acedc51e6c83e5ffbd82dc457d) (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o141/Jay-gon_Jinn/000_1252.jpg)
This next table is where the completed sabers await sale and shipment!  It also has the sabers that are waiting on parts there as well.    So,  there's a quick little photo tour of my workspace!  I hope you enjoyed it!

Looks like a Sabersmith's shop to me.

And hey whatever wire strippers work for YOU ;) is important!  I just don't like the 2 - in -1 cutter/strippers

Thanks for the compliments, guys and gals.

Many of the machines are older, but they still do their job well. We only have one CNC mill so far and we're working on expanding the inventory. Personally I'd like a waterjet cutter, and more stuff to expand the sandcasting station. Right now though our main focus is on acquiring more tooling for all the existing machines. This has become a rather expensive hobby, indeed! 90% of this stuff is overkill for sabers, hahaha.

Also, for those of you who asked in PM, if/when the time comes I'll post a separate interest thread for local forumites to come and work in the shop, most likely on weekends. Before I can make any promises though, I need to work out the insurance thing and conference with the other co-owners.

Here are a couple more pics of our less commonly used machines --I've yet to use them for the saber hobby per se, except the big press (for unjamming two epoxied press fit parts on a Parks saber):

Finally cleaned my shop up so I could take some pics.  The shop is a 10'x10'x10' wood storage shed that I built myself, earlier this year from a kit (with help now and then of course, on the parts that could not be lifted by one (weak) man alone).  I completely redesigned the floor frame as I needed the floor to be very solid and able to take a lot of weight.  I also redid the "loft" and put the horizontal roof beams much higher.

I work on the electronics at my computer desk, not in this shop.

The first 4 pics were taken with me holding up a camcorder's wide angle lens to my digital camera.  That's why they look blurry at the edges.  All pics are clickable.

Below is a pic of my grinder and my Uncle's scroll saw.  The grinder runs off a motor that was from either a washer or dryer.  I've had it since I was 17 or 18... which would be 1986 or '87.  Still works great though.  Of course I've had to replace the belt a few times.

I think I used the scroll saw many years ago on some wood but have not used it since I put it in my shop.  In fact right now, it does not have a blade.

Cool!

I have no such awesome tools... it's just me, my apartment, a Li-Ion hand drill (lol) with attachments, a small soldering station (used to be a simple iron until Don & Erv convinced me I needed a better one)... a few multi-tools, and... that's it!  I don't even have a dremel.

Still, I guess with 20 or so sabers I've built (and continue to repair after kids get finished beating them into submission)... it ain't so bad considering my "cave man toolset", hahahah

It surely doesn't take a workshop, but it helps :)

Nice setup ARKM! Most of the stuff I play around with isn't mine. I should take some pictures of the mass of equipment my father has at his house some day. Lathes, mills, grinders, you name it....I really should learn to use them all one day to make my own parts. I'll end up with it all as well one of these days hopefully not anytime soon. May as well keep them in use for a long time to come. Reminds me we were going to convert one of his into a CNC like his friend did, but haven't gotten around to it.

I'm envious of all of you with any type of such awesome tools. Although if anyone here knew me personally, you would know that is probably for the best...   ;D

WOW This thread depressed me a little to be honest, all i have is a Dremel :(
Id kill for just an hour in a shop like those featured here with a lathe, drill press and milling machine

I am learning that i will have to manage my expectations a little re what i can produce vs what can be produced with the right equipment
have to start somewhere though i guess

Haha, as of now, I own a dremel, a drill and a soldering iron. Since I am not an actual sabersmith, just an occasional builder, that is all I need.   :)

Here is my messy shop.  I stay so busy I don't get to clean up very well.  Anyway, I have a 12' x 28' shop with an Enco 13x40 lathe with DRO, a very old bridgeport mill, a vertical bandsaw, a very small drill press that I never use, a bench grinder and a belt sander.  For all of my electronic stuff and small projects like drilling and tapping covertec wheels and blade retention screws and all dremel work I do that in my kitchen at a little playschool picnic table.  I have a chair from my kitchen table that I sit in and work on the tiny little table.  LOL  You would be suprised how many sabers have been wired at that little table.  Anyway, here are some pics.  Also, I have an air compressor and I have air lines ran to each machine and one in a work area.
