..So i guess I'll post mine too! Luke V2 in progress!
« on: February 01, 2008, 01:33:58 AM »
Here's where I'm at so far! I'm not sure if I want to do the weathered version or not so I'm stuck at this point.. It has a lux 3 conversion but I heard that ultra might have a new blade holder with the extended emitter. I might just have to add one to this! I also upgraded the speaker with a TCSS speaker and it sounds wayyyy meaner than a stock MR.

The pics are low quality, I know. My apologies!

Not yet! I'm under the impression that the only clamp that will work is from an MR Ani. Seems like a scarce item to find! :-\

Someone's got you under the wrong impression Vex! The clamp you need is from the MR Luke ESB. I'm warning you: finding one of these things is MUCH easier said than done. I've been hunting one for ages and now I'm just considering giving up and using my Luke ROTJ MR hilt for a different project. Anyway, everything looks good Vex. Good job so far, man.

Thanks for the heads up! Now I won't be on a wild goose chase for a part I don't even need. I'll be on a wild goose chase for one I do!   ;)

Haha, I had the clamp first and I had to find the Luke ROTJ to go with it. Ultra just made this conversion so much simpler though!

Probably the old, short Luke blade holder that the Ultra kits used to come with, Alias.

Looks good so far. When you get clearer pictures I would like to see them. And yes, that Luke ESB is the grail piece for V2 conversions. This may change in the future. Stay tuned.

You are correct again Master Mac! It is Ultra's old DIY conversion kit. Owen, is there some talk about the clamp for this conversion going into production?

Darth Tyranus is currently working on a clamp for the V2s. I won't go into detail because it's not my place to do so  ;)

Okay, So far this is the research I have done in regards to a clamp solution.

There are two ways to go about it, so I'll keep it short and simple, with little detail. This gives one just enough to let their imagination and creavtivity flow.

Option 1:

This involves using the stock activation box.  First, you want to find some good sheet metal stock.  Measure the circumference of the hilt in the position where the clamp is going to be placed.  Take that measurment and lay it flat on your sheet metal stock.

Make sure that you make markings for your cutout sections on the graflex clamp (tab holes and slot). Cut those tabs and slot into the sheet strip....

Wrap the strip around the hilt bodyand take note of where the stock screw holes are. Index them with a center punch on the sheet strip and drill your holes.  Make sure you have a cutout for the wiring to pass through, and mount your control box on top of the band you made... You may need to find longer screws to mount it with, but I think you get the point.

This offers the "look" of the saber having the clamp a much lees cost and work than finding an ESB clamp.

Option 2:

THis also involves using sheet-metal but in this one you are fabricating the WHOLE clamp.  This will require precise bending of the metal, so a bending brake may be necessary (though NOT required) to make your job easier.
