Title: .45.... can a blade with light be put on them?
Post by: Jedi Yar Nala on July 23, 2009, 08:30:39 PM
This might be a strange question.... and I searched... but couldn't find a thread talking about this....

Is this possible?

I'm thinking just to put a small little light up blade on it (for my 3 week old son for Halloween... to match his Daddy :))

It's almost impossible to put an LED in a solid, full sized 1:1 MR LE.  It's probably even more impossible to put one in a solid, .45 version.  But stranger things have been done, I suppose.

But I'm gonna have to say no on that.   :)

Well, if we are just saying a led and a light, it may be possible. Difficult, but possible

Are the .45's so under valued that it would be better to "destroy" one rather than buy an ultrasaber"s initiate?

They did make the small pen light lightsabers at RadioShack.  I had the luke ANH.  Not very bright at all like a luxeon but it was visible.  I'm guessing you could use an acrylic rod or other material that's solid and  colored.  The RadioShack ones had the little button batteries used in watches or small keychain flashlights.  It wouldn't be bright, would be a pain in the neck and most likely you'd trash one or more in the attempt but I'm sure it could be done.

well... since it is just as a little toy thingy for the baby... was just using wishful thinking.... (thinking one of those keychain lightsabers... and sticking it on there....)

FYI-  Those keychain lightsabers from RadioShack are NOT good for children.  We gave my son one and he destroyed it.  Lots of little tiny parts came off it.  Of course he was chewing on it.  ::)

hahahaha.... yeah... I'm pretty sure you could pull that off LDM ;) Oh... and as you guessed it.... the saber should match the one I'm having you custom for me :)

Yeah, Luke... if someone did do a conversion of this... would love to see it.

plus... I saw the one on ebay DP... tempting... just need to figure a way to stick it on the .45 without it looking stupid, or completely destroying the prop.

In addition....  I saw this....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=190323237316

The blade length may look good on the 5 inch hilt of the .45....

What do you guys think?

Not all of them, though.  Actually most are plain 'ole solid.  Similar to the LE versions of those hilts, the Luke ANH and ESB are partially solid, so maybe those would be a tad easier to work with.

Ok.... so I actually won that auction...and it IS a pretty cool keychain....

Now I have in my possession the .45 Obi ROTS....

The emitter is closed off.... and when I do minor twists to it... it doesn't really give, so I'm assuming this is a whole solid piece.

Was thinking....if I somehow.... was able to drill a hole down the center.... maybe cut it at the mid section to create room for the key chain module (it looks like it might fit), then maybe the LED light can pass through that small neck and up through to the blade.....

What do you guys think?

Or would I be better off picking up either a Luke ANH or Anaking ROTS? (Really wanting to do this with the ROTS Obi.... it is what LDM is working on for me, and it would be cool if my newborn son and I both wielded one at halloween).

Alright.... so I'm in the process of getting a second Obi .45 just in case I mess this up...

Going to "attempt" to drill a hole down the center to allow the light to pass through... and then cut the midsection to add the keychain hilt.

Then I'm going to attach (maybe glue) the blade to the emitter.... The blade itself is sort of cheesy with NO rounded end at the tip (just sliced straight down), The length is REALLY good, though....

In addition...I'm also in the process of getting a Luke ANH mini (under the recommondation of Obi-Wan that they are partially solid...and an Anakin ROTS.

Hopefully one of these works.... :)
