SOLVED NBV4 LED Strip not lighting up more than 2 pixels Issues
« on: February 07, 2018, 06:04:13 PM »
Hello! I just wired up an NBV4 today and I ran into some issues. When I turn on the saber, making sure I followed all the instructions for modding override.txt, only 2 LEDs are lighting up. It's very weird. I removed the connector, and even tried a separate, brand new set of pixel strips and wired them straight to the board with the same problem. Any idea what could be wrong? Please let me know. Thanks!

with no board / wiring pictures it's really hard to help at all. Most issues are with the digital data line to the strip being handle incorrectly (resistor, missing bridge, long wires, corrupted data)

user set pixels number to 259 which is wrong since strips are wired in parallel, no series.
Additionally, the blade length is limited internally to 255, so 259 rolls over with the modulo.

Hello Erv! Thanks for your replies. The blade length was adjusted to reflect the proper length (I added the two together at first). It works now. I think that was the main issue, but I also found a single strand of wire from the activation switch going to the speaker pad, so I fixed that. Everything seems to be working now. The saber shuts off shortly after it activates and the sound gets distorted, but I believe the battery is not charged or at worst may not be of a good enough quality. All of the strips light up now though! Thank you very much for your help. I sent you an email also, so please ignore that one.

NP, I also saw your email but rather answered here to keep the knowledge base grow.
You indeed need a beefy and charged battery or you will get a lot of voltage ripple with pixel type blades.
