(RESOLVED) Prizm 5.1 battery advice
« on: October 26, 2017, 03:15:37 PM »
Hi Erv' and Company!

I've got my shiny new Prizm 5.1, and could use some advice.
I'm using WS2812B ledstrip, 137 leds per side (274 total)
When I fire up the board with ledstrip attached, the speaker crackles like mad.  From what I've read, this is 'voltage ripple', caused by too much power draw.
Possible fixes mentioned were proper resisters, and bigger battery.

My understanding was that the lightstrips didn't need resistors, other than on the Data line (correct?)
Also: I bought the beefiest single-cell I could find (18650, 3200 MAh) from the custom saber shop.  18650 was recommended in the Prizm manual.
Is there a different battery I should look for, or some other way to fix the issue?

Thanks!

Jeremy

Update: After fully charging my battery, the problem goes away (as many of you would guess...)  So, I get the feeling my runtime will be pretty short.

My hilt *does* have room for another cell.  Does anyone have advice in running (2) 18650's in parallel?  Any pitfalls, or issues with recharge port, etc?  Good idea, bad idea?

yes, you can use cells in parallel, just make sure they are protected cells
