Han, I thought that part was always there.....at least I'm pretty sure it was....unless I've just watched the DVDs too many times.....

I could have sworn it was the same.....

I knew it.

But Han, maybe you have the ORIGINAL OT. Not the special edition.

I actually quite like the DVD release of the OT.   They're all much prettier, the picture quality is really amazing considering the quality of the SW movies of old, and the sounds have been remastered to such quality that I think the  DVD trilogy matches the Pre-Trilogy in terms of quality.

Except for one major change which still annoys me.   Han shoots FIRST!  Not Greedo, and not at the same time!

But Han DID shoot first.

And.....they changed Boba's Voice. That was the worst change of all.

Actually, I disagree.

It shows some continuity changing Boba's voice..

Yeah, but he sounds like a little xxx now.

He sounded so awesome before. Like a chainsmoker who's been smoking for 50 yrs and  has a whole in his throat. He sounded so BA.

Yeah I have them on VHS and the wampa scences are there.

I think you might have the 1997 special edition VHS box set then?
My friend has that one, and the wampa thingies are on there too.

yes sorry

they are indeed there on the special edition, i forgot they were released on VHS years ago.  see i have the OT on VHS and Episode IV special on VHS.  but it wasnot since i saw the SE's on the cinema that i saw them again, hence i mistakenly believed all that footage was new for the DVD.   sorry for the confusion,

man i feel old now.

Its okay. I remember going to the theater to see the SEs.  Thats when I fell in love with Star Wars.....it is so much different seeing them in the theater for the first time....*sigh*......

The worst change for the DVDs was adding Hayden in the final scene by far.

I just feel so bad for the guy who played him. I mean, that is the only part in the whole movie where you see him clearly and then he gets replaced.

I wonder how he would have felt when he saw it.....

"Here we go kids, here is grampa in this part of Star---....WTF?!" Thats gotta suck

If you're after an 'authentic' Star Wars, I have seen many listings on ebay for DVD copies of the old laser discs.
These were produced before the special editions and so should not have the 'improvements'.
I don't know what the quality is like, but I imagine that a laser disc to DVD transfer should be pretty good, not as sharp as the new DVDs because they have been digitally re-mastered, but they should still be o.k.
I have seen these go for as little as £10 english for a set of three and they come with glossy printed cases.
There is also currently a listing for a 'definitive' edition of the original trilogy. Not sure how these came about but I expect they are from the laser discs too. They definitely don't look like official versions.
I keep thinking about buying one of these, but I think that really GL should re-re-release the original films in their original format.
To the older fans, like me, part of the attraction of Star Wars is the nostalgia of reliving the experience that you first had as a child, plus Lucas could make even more money by making us all buy another edition. He must have thought of it, he's too merchandise conscious not to have.
I still love the re-mastered versions, but it really bugs me that so many obvious changes have been made to the good old Star Wars that I remember.
It seems almost sacrilegious.
