"The Force Unleashed" by Sean Williams
« on: March 13, 2010, 01:42:00 AM »
I know most of you have played the game, but have any of you read the book?

A couple things I found interesting:
1. The fabled "Starkiller" lightsaber is actually lost after he is thrown into space by Darth Vader.
2. The lightsaber Galen uses after Vader "resurrects" him is actually General Kota's. :o
3. Galen doesn't find the blue crystal until he is on Kashyyyk. Interestingly enough, he removes one of the green crystals from Kota's saber and inserts the blue crystal, which (when combined with the other green crystals) yields an aqua colored blade. 8)

This book only made me want to own a General Kota saber: $7.00 for a book --> $500 for a new lightsaber. :P

I'm actually in the "process" of reading it right now....  It takes me forever to read books, because I only really have time to read on my train rides to NYC....  Sometimes it takes a few months to get through one.....   :P    I am really enjoying it though...  Gives you a new take on the game...   ;D

I keep my copies in the bathroom. ;D Get through them much faster that way. :D

I liked how the author focused on the plot and the emotions of the characters and didn't waste time on describing the scenery. For me, the book added depth to the game, and the game added color (i.e., imagery) to the book.

I read it. It was... not bad... Sean Williams is a pretty decent writer, and he gave the characters some more depth. The part about wanting ot own Kota's saber... yeah....

Lol funny how that happens with lightsabers isn't it?

I haven't read the book, but pretty tempting to do so. I don't have much time to sit down and read, but I'll have to pick it up and read it when I can.

It is. Originally, I was thinking of having my Starkiller changed to have a blue crystal...like in the game. But after reading the book, I found that was not quite accurate. :-\

So rather than a quick LED swap, it's a new saber. :'(

A cyan kota saber? Sounds interesting, but I still have to say in my opinion that Starkiller's (aka Galen Marek) saber is more interesting. But does this also explain why Kota used a blue saber on bespin?

Nope. In the book, Kota had no saber. He just wandered over to the ship while Starkiller dispatched the enemies. There were several minor details (like this and those mentioned above) that were different from the game.

I read last year, and I liked it a lot. I thought it was a good read and made me want to get new sabers as well. The Force Unleashed 2 book comes out October 5th, 2010.

Hey Jasher. I have the book in hardcover since it came out. I have the game, but haven't really played it that much, so not sure how the game works within the book itself, but it was interesting on how the "rebellion" has it's Jedi hero...well, besides General Kota. It was a great read, but I always think Star Wars is good. I'm kinda prejudice that way.

I wish I had hardcovers of all the Star Wars books I own. Maybe someday...

The game is worth playing...just so you can understand what the different planetary terrains are like. I read the book after having recently played through for the first time and it was nice to have all the places fresh in the minds eye...especially Felucia and Raxus Prime.

Just finished it.

One awesome book. Really added depth to the game, and get to know the characters better.

4.8/5, Definitely worth the 7 €. (Approx. 5.24 $, AND it was a hardcover!  ;D)

BUT IT MADE ME WANT KOTAS LIGHTSABER!!!  ;D

Yeah! Me too! Someone on the forum here had Do-Clo make one and it came out SUPER nice.

(BTW, that's a steal for hardcover)
