The Saberbay Petros Saber
« on: November 28, 2014, 03:32:29 PM »
So last week I started tinkering w/ some simple 3d designs for blade plugs.
I will have a 3d printer early next year and would like to have the skills before having the tools!

After I designed and ordered the blade plugs I designed a 3d printable darksaber kit that will have aluminum tubing inside for reignforcement.
In the picture you could see a simple chassis meant to hold a nano and a 18650, and a mini speaker holder w/ wires to pass thru for the recharge port

I may tackle that project one day.

Then Yesterday I decided to try out a saber that has a few design cues from other hilts.
I am a huge fan of the lightsaber Petro From the Clone Wars had.

Took me a few hours, its not perfect yet, but I am proud of it. I also have a lead on a local machinist who is actually a family friends great uncle.

Hoping it works out w/ them

So here it is.

Its around 10" long, has 1.15" id in grip section and 1" thru the rest of the hilt

What You Think?

Is The Petro Saber something you would want in your collection?
I would probably not sell them empty.

Very classic. I see alot of OT inspiration, which I like.

Lookin' great. I'd probably be more tempted by an empty though...

The Reason(at least for myself) why most Smiths will not sell an empty is the design and manufacturing and general logistics of building a custom hilt takes lots of time to bring to market.

Unless the hilts are bought in bulk, the price that would be reasonably set for an empty would seem high to most consumers as they do not understand the planning that goes into them.

I think offering a lower priced stunt is the happy middle ground most the time in these cases =D

Very interesting saber project! Apart from the Gungi hilt, this was my favourite from those padawan sabers. Good luck with the project!

Wow, nice. This is a great looking hilt.

This project sounds even better! Good luck with these.

Oh, did I say great looking hilt! The OT design hints knock this out the park.

Keep up the good work!

Yeah, that's a good point.

And I might have to grab one regardless... I love the design!

Good looking saber. The grip section is similar to Yoda's lightsaber. Nice and compact but not as small as Yoda's. I hope that you can go all metal on the hilt.

3d printed proto came in.
The print resolution wasn't very high.
I might go price this out at some machine shops

What you think?

Id is 1"
