Title: Codova's TPM Darth Maul Force FX Review! Tons of Pics!
Post by: Codova on September 02, 2006, 09:10:06 PM
This is my first review people so bear with me.

A Story

At the age of 7 my dad took me to go see a movie. I didnt know what it was and my dad said it was a surprise. I saw all the OT movies before TPM came out and i always asked my dad "When are they going to make 1-3?" and he always responded with a "I dont know son" or something like that. So when the movie started I was completly estatic because i saw the "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away" and I knew what movie it was. So the movie went on with the stupid Jar-Jar parts and the podrace, and when Obi-Wan, and Qui-gon met Darth Maul in Theed and he ignited his lightsaber i was like "I want one of those". Ever since then i wanted a "lightsaber with two ends"(thats what i called it when i was young). So when I first heard the MR was making a Darth Maul FX i was like "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!" and when i saw a good price on Ebay i thought to myself, Time to go ask the Sith Elders(parents).

Now that im done with that stupid paragraph i can start with the review.

The Box

http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00083.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch19

I didnt know that they were going to have a "double box" and I thought that it was pretty neat.

The Story on the box says:
"Forged as a hateful living weapon by Darth Sidious, the evil Sith Apprentice Darth Maul had but one goal: to exact his Master’s revenge on the Jedi order...
Now, with this incredible Darth Maul double-bladed Force FX Lightsaber, You can relive all the thrills of Darth Maul’s sneak attack on Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn on the hot desert sands of Tatooine, or plunge headlong into combat against two Jedi Knights in the heart of the Theed Royal Palace.
Bring home the adventure and excitement of the dark warrior Darth Maul’s unforgettable battles with this amazing replica."

Out of the Box

The sabers are tightly wraped in plastic and foam and it took awhile for me to wrangle them out.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00087.jpg&hash=580960f95a0e984694609141c87c3e649e79809d)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00087.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch15

As I took the first saber out of the box i stared at it in awe for awhile because it looked completly the same as the first time i saw it as a kid.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00088.jpg&hash=05151a937378af884a12a2a13a7f7916cf9b10ed)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00088.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch14

after i got both of the sabers, coupler, and stand out I set them all on the floor and loked at them for awhile.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00089.jpg&hash=13c51b03ab1e6f1aa43e44d450a353ce7832d976)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00089.jpg

The Hilt

The hilt is both atractive and meancing and the same time.

I really like the "arrow-feather" look to the emitter.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00098.jpg&hash=9197db6737c723c29c80a8411f8ae6f0d2a8c659)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00098.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch8

The endcap is nicely done and really detailed with the crystal exposed and the holes the let the sound through.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00093.jpg&hash=a1a6dd5d77c6ad5d79fed7624eb6b14a2a5e987f)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00093.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch12

The "wires" have a sliced look because they put copper on them and brushed the tips black.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00094.jpg&hash=4942f58344bbd0a9c429dd73316511565612d0b6)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00094.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch11

When i first handeled the saber i noticed that a covertech clip was blocking my grip. It is easily removed by a few turns of a Phillips screwdriver.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00099.jpg&hash=211a58931b292d60dda53c5a01301faad24f6e8f)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00099.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch7

The Coupler

The coupler is a metal peice of the saber that connect on saber to the other. It is a dull silver color that dosent match the rest of the saber.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00097.jpg&hash=d0d00dd49cc817272446e507647dc5b4327d19d6)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00097.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch9

You have to line up the coupler so the buttons of the saber are in a line and that is quite easy to do with the supplied allen wrench and the instruction manual.
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00096.jpg&hash=48b359303d42fabaec93d32e52f8b6d6e527750a)
http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00096.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch10

The Sounds

The sounds are recycled from the ESB Vader but that is ok because my friend has the vader and i think the sounds are awesome.

The Blade

The blade is quite bright and durable save a few dark spots on it. Right when i got it out of the box and put batteries in i started dueling with my brother the blades took some pretty hard hits.

Regular light:

http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/?action=view&current=DSC00101.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch5

Low light:
(https://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi53.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg60%2FXcrssoutTheEYES%2FDSC00102.jpg&hash=84de4f1d97d2640ba96bee9315394c2f317e211a)

Dark Room:

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/DSC00100.jpg

Double-Bladed

http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/XcrssoutTheEYES/DSC00104.jpg

when the sabers are together with the added weight of the coupler it is around 4-5 pounds and is 7 feet 4 inches long. It is completly impossible to swing the blade inside unless you have a huge room or gym. This blade will take so time to get used to in double form because of its weight and length but once you get the hang of it, it is a great weapon and workout tool!

Finale

Blade:9.0
Hilt:9.5
Brightness:8.5
Overall:9.0

This saber is second only to my ROTJ and i have been using it and will use it every day.

Please give me feedback telling me if i did good or not!

Great review, but I don't think the maul is 10 lbs. as a double blade, alone each blade is about 1.5 lbs. so yeah...

Great review, yeah about that 10 lbs... My Conan sword weights about 8lbs and it's very heavy, I doubt the Maul weights even that much. Anyhow I like how there's lots of pics. This is still the one saber that I don't know whether to get or not...

nice review and nice girl
I have talso the double Mauland I like it!.  The hilt is far nicer than  for example the Luke ROTJ and totaly different than the Anakin/Vader series.
It ihas some darker spots (in fact if you look long enough you can see the led strip through the diffuser)

about the weight : I measured it it is exact 765 grams (1.69 lb ) for a single  so under the 4 lb for two including the coupler.
The balance is more to the front than the other FX sabers. thats why it feels more heavy when you swing it
btw I also had the clip removed  gives you a far better grip
