Title: The Sid Saber Project by LDM
Post by: GENERAL GRIEVOUS on February 15, 2015, 09:32:00 PM
Sids Installs for:
Caine, Nightstorm, CybKnight, Amanda B, Sithslayer1, Keske968, Aginor, Joab Dunmer, Lord Xeno and Vegeets

Okay, I know everyone is patiently waiting so I wanted to get this posted.  These are the korbanth Sid installs as commissioned on JSSDC, my Website and Fx-Sabers.  The majority of folks chose the trans copper powder coated shroud, but one (Aginor) chose the "V2/Smoked Chrome" motif.  Amanda B wanted it to look like the picture on the 501st website so she got trans bronze.  All installs are identical in that they have functional accent LEDs, switches in the pommel (new orientation from the POC, much more hidden) and FoC.  CyBknight and Xeno got the green die for FoC, Caine got a white die and all the others got the blue die.  The stock font package for Sid is listed below.  A few folks got custom boots, etc. (not pictured).  Caine requested no aux switch and no lit accents.  I gave him the aux switch anyways so that he could change fonts easily.  Thoughts on this hilt.  It is a nice little hilt that will not be a dueler since the BH is held on by a single set screw and on some of the hilts is wobbly.  If a person got a hilt that did this, I added an internal O-ring as a spacer and it seems to work like a charm.  My assumption is that this is simply due to casting variance.  All-in-all, these came out great.  All color options are gorgeous and I truly don't believe anyone blew it on their choice.  Enjoy!

The Particulars:
Korbanth Sids (7 polished and 3 stock finish)
CSv2.5 (all hilts)
9W RGB LDM brand LED (all but Caine who got a 12W RGBW)
LDM HO 20mm Speaker w/3/4" Resonance
14500 3.7V, 900 mAh Li-ion w/hidden 2.1mm recharge/kill hidden inside hilt
Custom Optics Modules
Trans Copper, Trans Bronze or Black Chrome II Powder Coating

As long as I have been in this hobby, it seems that the Sidious was one hilt that was always pursued, imitated and highly sought after but never able to be done properly.  From larger inspired hilts to resin casts (I think back to xwingband's original conversion) it just wasn't able to be done due to overall production costs, casting etc...It just didn't make it feasibly not worth it. But here we are at this point, and these really look great. It's just another indicator of how far our hobby has come over the years and that is indeed cool. Great work as always, man. I look forward to teaching forms with mine and knowing that after the famous V2, I have another Unicorn in my possession.  8)

I was on the fence about these until I saw GG's video of SID#1 and then pictures of a SID done in Trans Copper PC, and I was sold! Like Caine said, no one has been able to produce a fairly screen accurate version at a reasonable price until now! I can't get over the sound quality these little guys put out.

Thanks again GG! I look forward to getting this evil little beauty soon!

These turned out great. I really like the power coat color choices, esp the smoked chrome.

Thanks guys.  Yeah, I think everyone will be happy with them.  The powder really did come out great (what a horrible pain masking them, lol).  The non polished ones look "mildly weathered" which in my world is perfectly cool.

Loving the darker weathering on Aginor's hilt too, really goes well with the black chrome PC! IF you don't mind my asking, General, what technique did you use to weather the gold (sorry, electrum!) areas?

No.  They were cleaned, masked and powder coated.  No additional polishing was done.

Not since the trailer for Ep. 7 have I been this excited.  Can't wait to wield this awesome piece of work...finally a bonafide Sidious fx saber!  I can once again scratch off another unicorn saber off the wish list.  Awesome job Lord General!!!  And a shout out to Korbanth for getting these hilts made and into the hands of a true cram fu master.  Much respect for you both.

Got mine today.  Needless to say this is THE saber. I can finally cross this one off my list. The CS 2.5 is just like a CF 6 with the 6 sound banks and FoC.  I see the CS as the go-to board for thin sabers until Erv makes the CF smaller.  WOW!

Looks great, Xeno! Man, those came out great.  8)

Folks, lets get some video reviews up on these. I remember back in the day, people were doing far more video reviews for the sabers that were built for them by our resident smiths. Pics are good, but if you have the time, write one out and shoot a vid! That way other peeps can see how great they are and will keep our smiths nice and busy.

I'll do my review as soon as mine arrives.

Wow, that looks great on it's display!  It was cool meeting Lord Xeno yesterday.  He got to pick his own blade plug from my pre-made stock and got a blade made for him on the spot, lol.  Caine and LX are the only two who have them so far, but 4 more are going out next week (maybe more) so they will be in hands soon.  LX can likely comment on Aginor's V2 as well, since he saw it.

Looks great, Xeno! Man, those came out great.  8)

Caine -- I'll try getting a vid up soon.  I can't flake on it.  Not on this one.

Getting to see the General work his magic on getting a few custom things done was way cool.  Scratch blade plug, added the retention screw, and custom 29" blade.

Thanks fellas.  This has been quite a project and I still have another 20 to build out as they get ordered off my site.  The odyssey is not over, lol.

Make that another 21 lol.  Up for one more.  These look great.

LX can likely comment on Aginor's V2 as well, since he saw it.

Yes I did get to see Aginor's V2 with the black chrome and powdercoated neck and BH.  It was awesome!   However, having seen them side-by-side in person, I think this V1 finish is the best.  Cheers

Loving the copper and the black chrome PC - and still bowled over by how small these are. NiiIIIiiice!!!

+ EDIT: ...also - for an alternative take rather than going for an accurate look - I imagine a SID would work really well with the Titan Grey PC as used on Ro/Roland's recent Kota Dark E.V. FS: KOTA DARK E. V. (http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=45744.0)
