Is there a dueling club here? if not can we start one? I would very much like to head this up if there isn't one here... Who's with me? or who's beat me to the punch?

im in az, but sd is only seven hours away. ive always wanted to have a battle on the beach, early in the morning during the fog. that would be awesome.
-
I just can't believe that San Diego doesn't have a dueling club
-
Okay people I'm in the works of forming a dueling club in this area.... anyone who has pointers for me please I would enjoy any advice

i would suggest gathering at least five extra sabers. they dont have to be expensive, just strong enough to spar with.
Ive also noticed new people into dueling aren't exactly thrilled about getting hit during the learning process. gloves and protective gear are great to have around just in case. i always get bruised knuckles somehow, so i use motorcycle gloves when i duel, and it makes a huge difference.
i also made a "cortosis shield" out of a couple of shin guards to wear on the forearm. and that also helps with confidence during practice, knowing you can bat the blade away if you hesitate.
make a few of these to keep lying around.
find a good place to meet and practice. i usually look for places that are kinda private, it seems there's always someone around to talk some kind of trash, and even though you might not really care, it still kills the fun.
i know north park has a ton of space with hills and stuff to run around, so that shouldn't be hard to do in sd.
come up with a well rounded system for those people with different reasons for swinging sabers. some people need the exercise, some might be doing some kind of choreographed performance, some might just want to battle it out.
if i can think of anything else, ill let you know.....

I'm planning on having two sides to the club a staged combat side, and some sort of tactical combat side of it that consists the free sparring and match sparring. Gloves and eye pro will be required during sparring, any other gear will be optional.

Thread revival from the dark side! I'm in North County SD (Escondido) and ready to go...got extra sabers, gloves, knee pads, just need some forearm guards.

Sorry if this is borderline necroposting, but I'm new to the board and wouldn't mind giving it a whirl (pun intended). Have blade, will travel. I'm in Clairemont Mesa.

I'm in the San Diego area and have been wanting to find a good group for a while.
-
This thread is very outdated as I know that Lucien is now in the Portland, Oregon area now. But perhaps others who are in the San Diego area can get together for some saberplay?

I am in San Diego and interested. It looks like there is a Lightsaber Team the meets in Balboa park, but they seem to focus on choreography rather than dueling, which I would rather do. Anyone out there dueling?

I'm a member of the lightsaber team. We meet at the Hall of Champions Tuesday night at 7:00 and Saturday morning at 10:30. We do a style that I think could be classified as d'jem so, as it draws heavily from ancient German longsword. Find us on Facebook, San Diego Light Saber Team (https://m.facebook.com/groups/1695767627368246)
There is also a dueling club, Underground Lightsaber Fighters (https://m.facebook.com/groups/1698427347068354), that meets at the fountain by the Science Center the last Saturday night of the month at 8pm.

There's a new chapter of the Lightsaber Team in Escondido. They meet in Kit Carson Park on Fridays at 6pm. They are not a dueling group, but they are nerds with lightsabers.

Thanks CET. I will probably check out the Lightsaber Team after I get my saber. I have some Kung Fu training, so most of my single sword knowledge comes from that, but I am up for learning new things.
Cool that there is a dueling club too. I will definitely look into that as well. I guess I'll have to try that next month.

Our club has a pretty diverse martial background. I studied historical French and Spanish rapier. We have members that are student of German longsword, bolognese rapier, English longsword, kendo, and bartitsu (cane fighting).
