Just as I had expected: Amazing
This is the item I'm most looking forward to out of eFX's first round of releases.
eFX should, without a doubt, redo all (or most) of the sabers in reveal form.
As far as pre-ordering goes, I think with eFX you only pay when the item is already available and in stock. So once you pay, the item ships right away. This is a much better system than paying and then waiting 5 or 6 months for shipment.

I love collecting lightsabers but I'm not sure that I like this one. In some of the pics there are two sabers, one complete and one in reveal. Does this mean that you can take the saber apart and display it however you want?

Yes. When "closed" it will be an Obi-Wan ANH as it would normally appear. Even though the prototype is pristine, the final version WILL be weathered so don't worry about that one. You can display it "open" or "closed".
I'm not too keen on the Xtreme name either.
X-wing looks great and I'm already sold on that one. I hope that the current base of the prototype isn't the final base (I have a feeling it isn't). I'm hoping for either a mirrored MR style base or Death Star style base for the X-wing. Regardless, as long as I can get my hands on one on ordering day it'll be mine!! ;)

I heard on RPF it's supposed to have lights and sound as well as a weathered paint job.... 8) let's just hope it doesn't look like textured krylon like the MR weathered Obi.... :-\

Very nice indeed. This will make me eagerly await a Vader Xtreme.
Maybe they could start with ROTS and work their way up to Episode VI, but they will probably go with ANH if anything for the first one :D

eFX probably also named it Xtreme because it kinda incorporates the name of the company. It does sound cool, so I don't mind it. 8)
Reveal Edition (RE) would have been nice too.

Thanks for clearing that up. In that case, I think it is pretty cool. However, isn't anyone worried about this new saber reducing the value of the Obi ANH weathered? I know that to some collectors this might be an issue - like it's the same saber but cooler.
For example: My holy grail of MR lightsabers is the Vader ANH SE: This is partly because it's rare and expencive. If and when I finally get my paws on it, it will be that much more special because I really, really wanted it and had to work hard to get it. Now, if EFX decide to release an xtreme edition Vader ANH SE, would I still want the old version or would I go for the new cooler version?

I have followed closely the Master Replicas items value issue within the last year, the whole spectrum that MR offered to us. Recently many of the force fx lightsabers have started to rise within the markets, like for example Luke ROTJ, Mace AOTC/ROTS, Obi-Wan Rots and so on. People are selling many of these sabers with less than 100$ on forum, even though the true value is much higher nowadays. I see Windu fx going in ebay now with $173$ and still 3 days remaining. Some of the earlier MR products have even tripled along these years, we're talking about three figure numbers on some pieces. Like the Yoda AOTC originally cost only $249, it much more than that nowadays. Obi-Wan TPM Elite edition in high figures and so on. So definitely the values for many MR items have rised lately. I also follow like more than a dozen star wars shops that sell MR items and how people are buying these items with good percent. How do I know? Well many times I looked that there's a great MR treasure in stock and after too many second thoughts I actually fail to get it, since it's out of stock. This time for good. There is definitely a silent hunt going on and when I saw Obi-AOTC LE, I quickly grabbed it, since it was just a lucky find and it would have disappered soon. If there were coming a EFX Obi-Wan AOTC, I wouldn't mind, since I was particulary searching for the MR one. If you're planning to get the MR Vader ANH SE, which means the 1000 limited dual signature edition that our Anakin Skywalker owns, then it's gonna be extremely pricey, but truly a great treasure. Find a nice a deal and grab it if possible, since I mean it wouldn't be the same thing to own a MR Vader ANH SE as EFX Vader ANH SE. Like there's EFX Stormtrooper helmet and MR one, even though there comes changable lenses and stuff with the EFX one, it's no cooler to me anyways. I would grab anyday the MR one over the EFX, but that's just me :D. Many things affect what you choose to buy, like the hunt for certain item you have longed for, perhaps how limited it was, your own history with the certain manufacturer. Like I have many Finnish friends who lived the ICONS era as collectors and value those over the MR and so on. So it eventually comes to you, what is important to you.
add: Also, the Star Wars actors are getting older and older, like David Prowse, the man is already 73! So there's no guarantee that David Prowse would be there to sign Vader lightsaber plaques for EFX, in worst scenario the MR ANH SE was the last one we'll ever see

I love my ANH weathered and I couldn't care less that it might not be as special to anyone now that there is efx, however I do worry that it might feel less special to me. Which is silly I suppose.

Yes, that's the one I used when the days were young, when it was updated ;). Nowadays it only gives you a little clue, the true values differ a lot from the ones within toytracker

As far as the Vader sabers go...
Vader ANH was pretty much on the money the 1st time so I doubt eFX will make a "new" version soon.
Vader ESB -> newly discovered info on wire colors on the other side so maybe
Obi-Wan ANH -> Many new discoveries since the MR release so this makes sense
There wasn't a Tyranus ROTS so maybe that'll come out sooner than later.
I'd expect most of the new LEs to be council sabers for a few years first but who knows? I think eFX is going to be careful not to alienate their MR customer base so I don't think we'll have too many rehashes too soon.
Plus, there is a TON of other stuff they can make first.

I can't help but wonder if someone from eFX, besides eFX Amy, is a fan of Master Yoda's work or has seen his Graflex.... Yoda was the first one I saw implement a crystal chamber with flashing lights, or take from the visual dictionary and try to make it more realistic... And now we have this Obi... Hmmmm.....

Looking at the detail and the electronics/lights that is gonna cost a fortune. IF I had the cash though it would be mine.

there's been no word. I think it might have been postponed. it quietly disappeared from the eFX website

The Obi-Wan Xtreme is most likely going to be a great seller. Right now, eFX is putting the focus on the Ahsoka LE, which has already went up for pre-order. It's better business to put the less popular saber for sale first, which is what they're doing. And in this economy, they're definitely not going to offer both at the same time. So the spotlight is on "Snips" for now. ;)
That would be my guess.

I've read many of Palpy's reviews and he really is the master reviewer, as you say. However, I think there is room for more than one review ;)

I have been really thinking about this Ahsoka lightsaber and first I wasn't that interested, but since it's Signature Edition and the price is reasonable, you most likely see a review from me. I will slowly have to consider starting with EFX line also ;). We'll see, but thanks for the nice courtesy guys ;)

A question I have....
Of coure it will be primarily a display piece... that opens up to reveal the blingy crystal chamber/chassis....
The question I have.... is besides the bit of sound in the video .... will it be a true FX... motion/clash sensors....
Will a blade be possible with this.... not really for straight out dueling...but for the sake of just lightly tapping the blade to show the effect (plus I'm sure everyone would love to have a blade on this bad boy....)

That update was from 2009. I recall it was delayed indefinitely due to manufacturing issues. More than likely they shelved it in favor of the Luke Reveal to coincide with the Star Wars Blu Ray release. It will more than likely be the next one they do, now that the Luke ROTJ is out of the way.
eFX 2010: We know that many of you have been patiently waiting for the release of our Obi-Wan Kenobi Reveal (formerly known as "Xtreme) Lightsaber from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope . Unfortunately, I am sorry to announce that we have temporarily postponed the release of this product for now. There were too many manufacturing issues that could not be resolved to meet our specifications. We are now in the process of redesigning the lightsaber from scratch and will be introducing the new design later this year.
There has never been an update from eFX after this.

i wish efx would announce something. i would pre order this saber without hesitation. i waited long enough so now im on the russrep runs. I lack faith in this product.

Yeah don't hold your breath on this one. They seem to be focusing on their static prop hilts, like the Maul. Not a bad thing but dang that Obi Xtreme was wicked!

Im not digging the maul. i get what they are doing, its a fantastic concept having it made from ray park's actual hilt used for TPM...but i much prefer the obi "Xtreme".

the screen used maul was a piece of plastic. ::) this is just another 'stunt saber' from their "precision cast replicas" line.
the entire line is completely flawed because they are not making replicas of "stunt sabers" AT ALL;
they are reproducing "hero hilts" in resin instead of metal... and simply calling them "stunt sabers" because they are resin.
((note: the 2 luke ROTJ sabers from this line are the V1 hero hilt and the V2 hero hilt -- there were NO "resin" versions of these sabers on set.
these are not "Replicas" of any "stunt saber" that existed in Reality(tm). they are "hero hilts" made in plastic, instead of metal (like a hasbro toy)).
BUT ---> ray parks' Maul hero hilt WAS a resin stunt saber, in Reality(tm) ;) hehe.
SO now finally they can call this (plastic) product of theirs a "replica", without LYING about it. ::) (cool beans).
BUT the very IDEA of turning that cheap plastic-stunt-saber-line into the new "LE" line, is EQUALLY ill-conceived.
--> NOW we're passing off those cheap resin abominations AS the new "LE" line!? using the (plastic) Maul as the centerpiece for their New Definition of what "LE" means !? :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( this makes baby anakin cry.
its better if they just (LIE TO US) and call them "Replica stunt sabers" like before (even where NO such stunt saber existed) --- I am NOT looking forward to an entire line of PLASTIC "LE" sabers. >:(

that efx obi is awesome and a must have for any saber collector i REALLY hope now the luke is done that it will surface at some point
i have wonderd whats happening with this one for a long time..
not got the efx luke reveal yet but i plan on picking one up when thers no saber runs i have to save for

the eFX obi was announced in 2008. it never happened. (it is now 2012). time to stop waiting.

Thing is, the Qui Gon FX was never promised nor ever mentioned to be in production like the ObiX was

Bumping an old thread, but This is an example of why in my opinion EFX can't handle the Star Wars license. They don't produce enough and their communication is little or non existent.
