JSSDC K3GR2 Saber run and contest
« on: September 18, 2014, 10:01:30 AM »
Well, it didn't become an annual happenstance, but we did finally get around to a second K3GR contest at JSSDC.

It's been a while and a lot of the older threads about the design phase were lost, but I do have a picture of the final design as voted on by the JSSDC membership.

Which was based on Arm on Fire's Samuri3000 saber.

I took the reference material and created a design that allowed a high level of creative customization from the base saber.

I kept the design plain on purpose and there were three 'blank' shrouds included to give each member a chance to do what they wanted with them.

I did my part and this is what I ended up with:

Sabers shipped to members and the 'game was on'.

The members who participated were:

Dave H and his K3GR2

Forgetful Jedi Knight and his Warsprite

Sollus Vir and his Tyranus

Ki-Djowac and his K3GR2

cannibal869 and his Rogue

Iggy and his Crooked Tooth

Chaos and his Cu Sith

Arc Angel and her Blossom

There were two rounds of voting and the overall winner was cannibal869 and his Rogue K3GR2 saber.  Cannibal869 earns instant BMF status for his Rogue and bragging rights as winner of the K3GR2 contest.

Congrats to Cannibal869 and all the JSSDC members who entered.

I encourage each of the entrants to post their own thread to show off their fantastic works.

Looks like some amazing work by all!

The question isn't who is going to let me;  It's who is going to stop me!

Yes, Cannibal is a deserved winner, but Ki-Djowacs design is awesome, too  :)

Haha... Well, it's a fool's errand, boy. The Emperor's army is infinite. You'll eventually be killed... or worse... and nothing will have changed.

They truly were all great designs and had not Cannibal's build not so definitely embodied the spirit of pushing the envelope, it would have been so hard to decide between them.  All the participants worked hard on their builds and they are all great sabers!

Just to clarify I designed the k3gr2 based on the input of JSSDC members in reference to AOF's Samurai3000. The first image Wat posted is one of my illustrator renders. Other members submitted designs and this one won the vote. Wat Tambor suggested removing the flutes on the choke and lower section but otherwise stayed very true to my design with his highly skilled machining. I'm so impressed with his accuracy in bringing this design to life as well as the variety of the completed sabers.

It was a awesome design and awesomely realized...a great 'canvas' for smiths to imprint their own creativity upon and give each of the contest sabers their own special 'personality'.

KUDOS!
To DREAM the IMPOSSIBLE DREAM. To FIGHT the unbeatable foe. To BEAR with unbearable sorrow. To RUN where the brave dare not go. To RIGHT the unrightable wrong. To LOVE, PURE AND CHASTE, FROM AFAR [-sigh-]. To TRY, when your arms are too weary; to REACH the unreachable Star!... This is my Quest; To follow that Star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far...
