Is there a G.U.I.L.D or Dueling Society in southern Ontario like Toronto to Brantford to the border?
-
hey Darius, i was actually thinking about starting a saber club in toronto. i know a few people that are also into custom sabers and would love to have something going on over here.
i think the hardest part is finding a central location where everyone can meet. i.e. someones house with a work station.
-
I'm down in Windsor, but TO is a bit of a hike to do some dueling.
-
it would be more than just dueling i guess. i mean it would be like a little club. we all get together, talk sabers, share ideas, parts, etc. we all can have some snacks, order pizza, watch movies. etc. etc.
but like i said, it was just an idea of mine. know a lot of people over here that would love to do it, its just finding someone who would be willing to host. :D
we all know our wives are super excited about the idea of having a bunch of strangers come over and talk about lightsabers, hahahahahaha ;D

I used to go to a Dr Who fan club an hour or so from where I live, very much like you describe, we would talk of Daleks, watch an episode etc. But no one around has anything like a Star Wars club here, that'll own a Saber dueling club. Some are lucky I guess. But it was great fun just being with like minded people.
-
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not against the idea at all. But it wouldn't be an hour drive for me, it would be a 4 hour drive. Lol. That makes it a tad more unrealistic.
-
yeah, if its a long drive, it might not be worth it. unless you are going this way anyways, to visit friends or family or even go shopping with the wife. then i can see making a pit stop to the party, but i agree, its a pretty long drive. not to mention gas prices are up the roof. :-\

YES!
I've been off these forum pages for a while. Partially because there were barely any Southern Ontarians here. But now....
Good ol' Smokie lives in Cambridge. I'm down to meet and greet my fellow Canuckle-heads, and I would love to learn the forms properly along with other people.
Hope to meet you all soon.
-
Hey Smokie, cool, more locals ;D
like i mentioned below, there are a few of us in Toronto that are also on the forums, Jedi_Rick, who is currently helping me convert a few MR and HFX sabers, Janmizzle, who is one of my close friends and partner in crime, and Greco18, who is also a cool guy that i have had over my place a few times.
we gotta all get together. currently i am having a contractor working on my deck. once thats complete, we can have a BBQ during the summer. once the sun goes down, the sabers come on, and it will be amazing.
my backyard is pretty big. its 222 feet long and 85 feet in width . im sure thats plenty of room for dueling ;D
-
Excellent.
I would like to offer you (and every other Canadian) this pic I made for our Avatars. Like a logo.
-
Did anyone go to that lightsaber battle in front of the R.O.M. a few years back? It began as an epic battle, adults and kids a like, but quickly turned into some kind of rave. So weird....
Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else was there.
This was me.
sorry for the double post..! ;D
-

That's awesome! I love that pic.
And yes, Canadian Jedi do INDEED do it in the snow. Just watch some of Madcow's videos for proof!
-
hey, the logo looks cool, i like it :P ill give it a try, ill also ask some of the other guys to give it a try, hehehehe
no, i didnt go to that lightsaber battle in front of the R.O.M. it did turn into some kind of rave thingy. it was so odd, hehehehe. but to be honest, i wouldnt have gone anyways, i think the crowd is a bit different than what we would have expected. it sounds cool in theory, but i bet once we got there, it would have turned into something totally different.
LOL, rave, hahahahaha :D
-
nice. we are finally starting this up. :)
summer is almost here so we should definitely get together sometime.
-
they guys are right here right now working on the deck. once thats all done, its BBQ time at my place.
ill send out an invitation once its all complete. ;D

What would you guys say is the best config. settings for the PC 1.5 so that it is extra sensitive for swings and clashes?
i am trying to customize my PC so it would be super easy to have clash and swing sounds without having to break the house down ;D

I read what Sollus said in the other thread. I'd go with his suggestion. Best thing you can do is to remove the clash sensor from the board and relocate it to another location in the hilt. Probably close to the emitter. Then just run a couple leads from it back to the main board.
(This is a common issue with many boards. The most notorious for this is the MR boards.)
Problem is, we all make our sabers so shock proof to hold up to dueling, that by the time we're done, the clash sensor isn't getting enough feedback to do its job properly.

Hello all. Nice to see a Ontario thread. I have often contemplated what it would be like to meet and greet some fellow saber enthusiasts. Swap idea's, tips, showcase custom sabers and all that good stuff. I live in London. If some of you do indeed plan on gathering and whatnot I hope it gets listed here. time permitting I would definitely stop in.
Cheers

ill make sure ill send out an email to everyone and see who can make it. it will be fun. we all bring our sabers, we can order some pizza, have a few drinks. duel. we can wait till it gets dark and then the sabers will show even better. it will be awesome.
-
Great sounds good!
Cheers -
-
Impa, you have a pretty impressive collection of sabers there bud. did you every show them in a gallery or have pictures of them? i would love to check out your collection.
i have a few sabers but not to the level of caliber you have.
dude, post some pics. i would love to see some of them. ;D
-
Well sadly i don't have an adequate camera to show off my sabers :( Trying to remedy that so i can do my review for the Orbital machining Obi-wan i have recently purchased. Also I don't have my Corran horn yet :) But you can check out my little Gallery of my fail Camera phone pics. and the original postings from the smiths that made them.

wow, nice, very nice.
love the glove, man that is so cool.
yes, please get like a really good camera and take some pictures of all your sabers.
im going to do the same, i asked my father-in-law to build me a shelf to vertically hold all my hilts (no blade)
so ill take pictures of that soon once he finishes. its going to be a nice dark brown/cherry brown wood.
it will be like a really nice display case with lights etc. i cant wait. he is busy now but when he is free, he will build it for me.
you have a really nice collection so far from what i can see.
love the graflex too, so you bought that one right? cause the video it says up for sale, hahahaha, so im guessing that was the one you bought off the other guy.
very nice.
-
Thanks for the compliments. Yes the graflex IV i purchased off DS was his original sale thread. i am guessing the video you are asking about is the one on his for sale posting? It was just a referance so people could view his pics as i don't have the ability to post any of decent quality. I will definitely remedy that soon though!
Sounds good a display case is the way to go. I want to build my own horizontal version probably with two tiers. Enough length, width and height so i can place stands in it, possibly with a mirrored back and some nice wood as a base. I am currently using a old china cabinet someone was tossing. Serves it's purpose for the time being, but yeah it takes up a lot of room.
And thank you for the comments on my gauntlet. It took a lot of time to render this from original sketch to cutting to shaping to riveting. Was an awesome project. And i do intend to continue.
i look forward to seeing what you have in your own collection.
Cheers

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm new here and I would like this to happen. I live in Brantford, and would be willing to drive to Toronto if there were going to be enough people to have this club or whatever. But are there any new(er) members in this area? looks like we have about 4 or 5, are there any others?
-
Maybe we could all pay a bit to get a spot at the cne for the fanexpo next year.
Either that or we could start small with a facebook page lol

COPIED FROM ANOTHER ONTARIO THREAD
Not sure how pertinent it is.. but I'm in Cambridge, Ontario and I had gone digging into this very subject. Ended up finding The Saber Legion https://www.facebook.com/groups/thesaberlegion/ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/thesaberlegion/). They are a full-on lightsaber dueling league with annual tournaments. They have specific dueling guidelines and rules, but saber dueling is saber dueling.
I got in touch with the Ontario Charter https://www.facebook.com/groups/TSLOntario/ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/TSLOntario/) . I think the Ontario Charter is actually based out of Cambridge (so lucky me!) but I think there is also a Toronto group... could be wrong.
But hopefully that helps you out!
------
And in terms of establishing an overall saber enthusiasts group, I think the head of this TSL Charter is hoping to do the same thing. There's a meet up event coming up in August I think... It's all posted on the Ontario Charter's page. But maybe we can make something happen!

I'm barely an hour away from you. I had no idea TSL had chapters in Canada.
