New saber I built to try some new things on.
« on: April 26, 2010, 06:36:33 PM »
This started out as a simple sinktube/MHS saber I was going to put together to sale on ebay using the hasbro cheapy sound board and a transistor to power the LED at full brightness.

It morphed into me trying a couple of new things (new to me).  I wanted to make the blade holder look like it wasn't a separate screw on piece without using a shroud so I filed grooves in it with my round file.  I also wanted to try out reverse sound so this saber has it.  Then I wanted to see what it would look like to file grooves in the sink tube of the handle so I tried that as well.

Then after all that I realized I had a lot of brass on the back end so I added the brass ring on the tip.  Had I known from the beginning I was going to do all the stuff to the handle area I would have made a ring covering the screw together junction instead of the way I did it but as I said it all morphed at different times.

For the MHS pieces I didn't want to polish it but didn't want to leave it with the factory finish either so I used my DA and sanded it with 180 grit paper.  Its a pretty neat finish.

EDIT: forgot to add all the specs:

-2010 Hasbro toy saber (ones with the DVD)
-single 18650 L-Ion battery with in hilt recharge
-transistor soldered onto the board to power the LED at full brightness
-P4 Green LED
-pololu narrow tactile switch in clamp activated by pushing down on the plate
-flashing red accent LED in clamp when power is supplied (pulling the kill key).

anyway enough typing...on with the pics...Pics are clicky for larger images

I will post a video tomorrow.

Very nice design, but I'm a sucker for the Obi style upper grip.
