Title: Thinking down the road - possible run saber run ideas
Post by: Acerocket on April 18, 2018, 06:16:41 AM
As I am wrapping up the Black Mamba saber run, and I am almost caught up with my outstanding projects, it's time to look at what could be the next run I offer.  I have been getting emails, private messages and Facebook messages from people wanting this saber or that saber.  Until now, I have not made any plans for what is next.  With that being said, I would like to ask your opinions on what saber run I should look at next.  Given the amount of emails and messages I been receiving lately, I may look at another run of the Obi TPM saber.  If you have a saber (or sabers) you would like to see me run, post a reply here.  I may not get to it next, but it will help me decide a possible course over the future.

Some possible previous works include the Obi TPM, Awesomesauce X11000, concept sabers, LEGO saber, or something like the K3GR1.  Noticeably absent is the Skinnyflex...  I will not be doing a run of those, so please don't ask for it.

Or feel free to recommend something I have not done before (it could have been done by others or never before and you want to see it done).  You can feel free to second, third, etc any ideas and I will keep track of the replies to judge interest.  I am also not opposed to someone offering an original design they might like to see made.  Post a sketch or picture if you want and I can add it to the interest list (but you need to be OK with 'your' idea being a run saber others can purchase).

Interest list:
Obi TPM
Mace TPM
AwesomeSauce X11000
Unique design
Mace EPIII
Qui Gonn TPM
Orgus Din

How about a Mace TPM light saber?

Yes! Perfect timing Acerocket as I really need an accurate Obi Wan TPM to complete the collection! I may also be interested in an Awesomesauce X11000 too!

I'd love to see another unique creation, but how could anyone turn down any of those options?

I'd definitely be interested in a Mace Windu from EpIII. i don't think I've seen any Smith attempt a 1:1 screen accurate version of that saber.

I’d be in for an Awesomesauce without any question. I’d also love to see an Acerocket Qui Gon TPM to go with my Acerocket Obi TPM!!

Another vote for Awesomesauce X11000

Would also be cool to see a Mace Windu from Ep3.

I’d love to see something new Erik.  You certainly could pull out your classics but like the BM, you need a challenge lol.

Hmmm, I may have an idea. :lamp: instead of a 1 how about a possible 3? I think I’ll talk to a couple of people.

Awesomesauce X11000 or Obi TPM for sure.

Sold my Korbanth OWK (and K4) as I was less than thrilled with it.  I've been drooling over your Obi TPM for too long.  :cheesy:

It's been done by Peter Zhang of 89sabers.

Obi TPM--PULLEEZZE.

Also, the Awesomesauce Maul and for something new, I think it makes perfect sense for you to do a Qui-Gon to complete the collection.

If you do nothing else, PLEASE do another Obi TPM run.

Thank you!

No question a MASTER ORGUS DIN !
it’s the only saber that has not had accurate justice done in run form imo,
I don’t think that shroud has ever been accurately replicated,
However I would like a proper crystal chamber or the option for one,

And I would be happy to take it in kit form no problem

Another Obi TPM/AOTC run would be amazing, still remember the first time I saw the initial run in 2008, they were incredible.

If you did do another run would you do them exactly the same as before or update them?  1 inch blade option would be great, I've also seen a version with the grips, neck and emitter as a single part which I always though looked cool, there's one on YT from Chingkuo Lin that was a great concept (though the accuracy is way off yours)

I will buy them both when you will open your runS !

I've got a thousand and one hilt design ideas.

I'd love to come up with some more to show you guys. Here is just one:

(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4749/39531074255_32d979e245_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/23ee68M) (https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4648/39531074345_1fba1c92ae_k.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/23ee6ak)

Those are really rough... but can be cleaned up and refined.

For a variation on the Qui Gon lightsaber, I've had the idea for a few years now to do the scalloped grip parts in stacked Acrylic parts... in various colors but transparent... where LEDs (or pixels) can be placed that will illuminate the entire grip area:

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/840/40667584575_39c435ee4e_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24XE14i)

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/819/40667586375_054b4f36c0_b.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24XE1Ak)

I know the images are super rough. You'll have to use a bit of imagination!

Cutouts can be in the acrylic like you do for chassis discs and parts to make an 18650 battery space, space for a soundboard, and wires. If the soundboard has on board SMD LEDs, you'll see the glowy sparkle through the colored scalloped discs. Also there can be spaces for 3mm LEDs to flash all around like a full hilt bar graph.

The shroud will still be polished metal to hold the entire thing together. The pommel and emitter will also be metal and screw into the metal shroud part.

Qui-Gon TPM would be a great companion piece to your Obi TPM.  A Mace Ep 1 would be nice but a definitive Mace Ep 3 would be outstanding.

You've done enough Obi TPM sabers, time for something different.

Hey friend... It's impossible for Ace to ever make enough Obi TPM sabers. :) The last run was 2015, and there is a lot of new interest since then. Personally I've been wanting one for ten years--I hope this time it happens! No reason he can't do another Obi TPM run in addition to the new things.

My preference is for something new, unless you decide to do a run of replicas of your unnamed copper and brass saber that is now owned by Tim of TCCS.

@Foe Hammer and all you folks asking for a Mace Windu Episode III, it's been done. You need to stay up to date on the Facebook groups. No, I'm not a big fan of the FB groups but a lot of the "action" is happening over there. Peter Zhang of 89sabers made an amazing Mace Windu episode II/III. It's practically perfect! Now, I just don't see the reason for making this saber again when a near 100% accurate copy is already available. Acerocket is the only one who makes an awesome near 100% accurate Obi Wan TPM, so it just makes sense to not have saber smiths overlap each other. Also, I mean absolutely no disrespect towards Acerocket or anyone else. I'm sure Acerocket could make a really awesome Mace Windu too!

Totally get what you're saying about overlapping. But despite that, annnd owning a Mace Windu ep3 from 89sabers, I would still love to see Acerocket tackle it.

There's just something about the quality of Orbital Machining's work that makes me really want him to do this hilt.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I'm trying to complete the collection. I just don't see the point in owning multiple versions of one saber when the differences between them are negligible.

I'm well aware of the 89 Mace.  The thing is there's "it's been done" and then there's "it's been done by Acerocket".  The difference between the two is not negligible.

Maybe, but not in this case. 89sabers Mace Windu is the best quality saber I've ever seen. When I picked that thing up for the first time the chrome and gold plating/ overall quality and "heft" to it made it feel as I would imagine a real lightsaber would feel like. I think it would be pretty hard to top that, and even if you did the difference as I said, would probably be negligible. Again, I say this with the utmost respect towards Acerocket. But look if that's what's to be done then so be it.

Great Choice Scorpion !

Thanks man
Yes this is one hilt I would LOVE an accurate fx version of, ace would nail this one it’s a huge hilt and very different from the usual sabers with that huge shroud/scroll work and wooden sleeve it’s beautiful,
Plus with a real crystal chamber would look incredible!

How about it ace? Is this a hilt you would be interested in making?

Guys, let’s try not to turn this into a discussion of what has been done before, or what Acerocket could do better. We all know he can do it better. That’s why we are here on this thread. I have an Obi TPM from ace on my shelf. It’s unparalleled. Many things have been done before, but an Acerocket hilt is another level altogether.

Let’s not derail this thread and stick to the point. Just simply answer the question, what are you interested in seeing? No lengthy discussions or explanations needed. One sentence needed. You’re going to give ace a headache. If you give ace a headache, he isn’t going to want to make new stuff.

Wooo-sahhhhh. Keep it short and to the point. I Know. I am excited too.

For example, this is my request:

“Please do another awesomesauce run, pretty please”.

Back on topic, how about Kyle Katarn's 3rd lightsaber or Mara Jade's first saber?

My preference in order:

1. Obi TPM
2. Qui Gon
3. Mace EP III
4. Awesomesauce x11000

If you were ever planning to do a trio, I think a Duel of the Fates trio would be awesome where you offered all 3 ;) But if you aren't interested in more than one run at a time, I'll go Obi TPM any day. I have the KR Qui Gon and Mace Ep III already. They are very very nice. I have the Korbanth Obi TPM but there's much to be desired. PLEASE Acerocket, do the Obi TPM, you're my only hope  :cheesy:
